@ Substance101 - Your comment is inaccurate. The gaming branch of Sony is profitable. The PS3 is not in the red ( http://n4g.com/news/771518/... ).

Sony corporation itself (the aggregation of all of Sony's branches) has posted a $2 billion loss, but much of that loss comes from deferred taxes.

You gotta hand it to the guy... He sure goes above and beyond, leaving no stone unturned to find these stories. Ever heard of the huffingtonpost.com before? Or how about the ottawacitizen.com? Me neither.

That's some serious pathological obsession right there. The bloke really has it in for Sony. A few sessions of professional counseling would probably help him... a lot!

If you played Sonic 4, then you simply can't deny that the controls and visuals are very disappointing. It was clearly developed as an iPhone game and then ported to other systems.

SEGA was more concerned with releasing it in as many platforms as possible, widening the potential audience and maximizing profits, than they were with developing the best product they could.

This game would have benefited a lot from better sound design. Nevertheless this is exactly what SEGA should be doing, releasing new versions of their arcade classics on PSN/XBLA for a reasonable price. Why compete with DIRT or NFS, when you can bring something different to the market in the form of an old-school "pick-up-and-play-for-ten -m inutes" arcade racer? They had me on nostalgia alone.

I'll be waiting for new editions of Daytona USA and Virtua Striker. ...

What happens if you have a European account, but live in NA and vice-versa? Do you get to download free games on all your accounts?

The simple thought of getting Super Stardust, inFamous, LBP and Dead Nation, all for free... It makes my heart beat way faster than it should!

Yes... Developers will jump ship, because the best way to deal with a temporary loss of revenue on one platform is to abandon the platform altogether, turning it into a permanent loss of revenue. That's just the logical thing to do. /s

You should have included that Game Gear commercial where the guy hits himself in the head with a dead squirrel. That's a classic.

The only way an iPhone can fail is if Apple forgets to slap their logo on it.

More likely you'll be able to choose from a list of games published by Sony themselves. Games like Super Stardust HD, Flower, Fat Princess, Pixeljunk Monsters, Wipeout HD, etc...

If they offered games published by other companies, they would have to compensate them.

@ jbomber: I'm not saying that you're wrong, but you are contradicting the article. The security firms that were brought in, as well any other cost on Sony's end (such as the new server infrastructure) are not factored in, or even mentioned.

According to the author: "Keep in mind that this figure does not include the national investigation agencies involved such as Homeland Security or the FBI. That total, Spafford guesstimates at around an addition $100 mill...

Having read through the entire article, I can honestly say that I now understand just about the same as I did after reading the headline. The author claims that there's a $21 billion clean-up bill to pay ($214 for each PSN account) and repeatedly points the finger at Sony for not picking up the tab. However, he never clarifies what exactly are these "clean-up costs", why do they fall on tax payers and, most of all, why are the US tax payers "footing the bill" for all t...

I don't get it... Is this supposed to be funny? Is the author trying to be sarcastic? I honestly can't tell.

Wait, I'm confused... Didn't Sony unlock the bootloader for all their latest Android smartphones? How do you hack something that is already intentionally wide open?

There's a common misconception, even among some of the gaming media, that the PS2 killed the Dreamcast. That is just not accurate, and things are not that simple. Sony has a share on the responsibility, just like Nintendo or even EA (which simply refused to publish for the Dreamcast) also do.

But what really killed the Dreamcast was the lack of consumer confidence, fueled by years of overpriced and poorly supported hardware (Sega CD, 32X and particularly the Saturn). Back...

Is it just me, or was there a completely different article in here just a couple of hours ago?

The original story was about a developer asking users if development of their upcoming PSN game should be canceled.

@ B166ER

Got any source to back up those claims? If you are saying that Sony's official statement on the issue is "worthless" and we should take the word of some unspecified random website as trustworthy instead, then you better have a damn good source.

And you really should stop promoting your opinion as "the truth". It's just childish.
