x86 is a microprocessor architecture, just like the competing ARM architecture used by most smartphones or IBM's PowerPC currently found on the PS3 and Xbox 360. It was introduced by Intel in 1978, originally with a 16-bit design and later with 32-bit and 64-bit instruction sets. The vast majority of PC processors being sold today are 64-bit, but they remain X86 in architecture.
The correct term is x86-64, but it got abbreviated to x64 once we started hitting the limita...
In the 90s, those words would have been blasphemy!
Article is incorrect... There were good high profile releases on the PS2 after 2007. Persona 4 and Silent Hill: Shatered Memories come to mind.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm bookmarking this one so I can come back to it and laugh even harder when DmC flops.
Oh, the irony!...
Bioshock also used the Unreal Engine 2.5, years after the 360's launch and it turned out pretty well. I won't be surprised if developers do the same next gen.
Don't give them ideas!!!!!
Wow, I must be the oldest N4G user on this story, because I remember being here when it happened BACK IN 2007!
Must be a slow news day.
If anyone is interested, MS swiftly responded by editing the MGS4 Wikipedia page and adding an entry about a white fluid coming from Raiden's mouth. I bet you can see where this is going.
I take it you never scanned planets for resources then.
Nice Blade Runner reference there. :)
"Developers often don't understand that with the current economy, most people can't aford to pay $60 for every game they want and if they can't buy it used, they won't buy it at all. They also don't seem to realize that if someone enjoys a used game that they bought, they will be more inclined to pay $60 for that developer's next game."
Yeah, I just quoted myself... Because that's how cool I am.
Yep, I'm also looking forward to upgrading my GTX460 later this year and this Kepler chip is looking extremely promising.
By the time I finished reading the article, I simply couldn't believe how insanely idiotic it truly is! Basically what the author is saying is that with the next Xbox we'll lose the ability to play used/borrowed games straight out of the box, but that's OK, since we will have a unified online passes system. Because a unified online pass system just HAS to be better than no online pass at all!!! Besides, who in his right mind wouldn't want to pay twice for the game they just bo...
Well, if this story is true, then you can expect some trully agressive pricing for the Radeon 7000 series. AMD will have to do so in order to remain competitive.
If Gaikai says so, then it must be true. It's not like they have a stake in it... I mean, how could they possibly benefit from the loss of one competitor? /s
@ disccordia(#5.3) - Just out of curiosity, where exactly are you getting your info from? I'm only asking because Wikipedia, which I know is not the most accurate of sources BTW, shows Sony owning 16 studios (15 if you scratch BigBig) against Microsoft's 14. And that's not even taking into account 2nd party studios, where things REALLY get silly.

Agreed. And not just bringing lightgun games to the Move, Sega could dominate the digital distribution market with their arcade pedigree. The pick-up-and-play style of arcade games coupled with an affordable price tag is just perfect for PSN/XBLA. I'm still waiting for Daytona USA 2 and Virtua Striker 4.
What makes no sense is why House of the Dead is a PS3 exclusive and Guardian Heroes a 360 exclusive. I'm telling you, someone at SEGA doesn't like making money ...
By the time the current systems are permanently abandoned, Vanquish will probably be regarded as THE underrated gem of the generation.
Not a week goes by that I don't play Wipeout HD at least once. Been a huge fan since 1995!
@ vulcanproject:
True, but don't forget that we're talking about a console here, so you have to factor in power consumption, heat output, PCB complexity, form factor and weight. Having 2 GTX560 in SLI, each with their own individual board, heatsink and fan on a PC is completely different from applying that same combination of GPUs on a console with limited space. Even if the 2 chips themselves were cheaper than a more powerful single GPU, the cost of integrating the...
