Is just the name. Every single Final Fantasy (besides X and X2) have been different in characters, world, story and gameplay. The battle system have evolved as FF titles continue to be released. As being part of the gaming-boom that occurred in the 90's, I honestly think that games were of more quality with regards to just gameplay and awesome story telling. Nothing, and I mean nothing, influenced the RPG market like the SNES. With games like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasies, Secret of Mana, SoulBlade, etc that set the stepping stone to story-book rpg's, I dare say that it was one, if not THE, greatest gaming era.

The fact that games have a huge fan base has really nothing to do with where a story can fit. Without a doubt, DMC, MGS and SF are all great games. But my question is where can DMC go right now? I agree with the Final Fantasy comment above. It's not the same characters, world, and story. A couple of elements are recycled, but it's not something that kills the game. Final Fantasy is an awesome franchise and I think that, as long as it's characters and story can remain original and creative, they should keep bringin' em on.

Overrated? Umm... are you feeling well, dude? Can you tell me any other RPG franchise that has implemented characters outside their own universe and made it work in terms of story AND gameplay? I own all three consoles and hate when people argue over which console is better. Games are meant to be enjoyed... not debated about. It's not politics That's why I purchased the Wii, 360 and PS3. To have variety and choice. Not to limit myself to one console because I don't like their name. I love gaming. A hardcore gamer is those who discuss games... not argue them.
