This isn't an accurate comparison. The software and firmware needs to be optimized for this hardware. Which isn't the case in a custom setup. These PC games are not optimized for a single set of hardware. Why is it games look great on Xbox and PS3 hardware when it really is yesteryear? I may be way off base, but that is how I understand it.
Why would valve let this rumor go and let people get disappointed? If it wasnt HL3, It would totally downplay the new game with a 3 in it. Left 4 Dead 3? FAIL. See how that goes? If I were Valve, I would squash this rumor quickly.
