I feel gross for even admitting this but "part" of the market is gone, switched to phones/tablets for mobile gaming... little kids are impressed by even the crappiest $1 games. It's not that the dedicated hand-held market will die, but how much of the pie is left? How many pieces of hardware or software must sell to break even or make a profit especially with some of these high-end games? I mean the numbers don't lie, the 3DS and Vita aren't selling as quickly or much...
The problem is most of the engines already built are there to utilize and most importantly cut costs with development for PS4/Xbox/PC. It's not to say they couldn't, it probably just costs more to port.
There's nothing wrong with the Vita outside of it just being great system with bad timing. Truely only hard-gamers are the ones that appreicate it, but Sony's message and advertising for it is just confusing, is it a controller or a portable? What games does it have? Many core gamers who just read negative articles about the Vita much like the Wii U, are often left wondering why bother?
but we're all economic and business geniuses on here...
@wonderfulmonkeyman come on man, you know Sony's financial troubles don't exist on this site. It might be the truth but it's blasphemy here.
@deadfrag true that, it's simply because Nintendo is the one that's knocked down. It's easy to jump on the "doomed" bandwagon without really foresite because they screwed up with one major home console. They want to compare to Sega which multiple failures in a row and no where near the cash Nintendo had/has. Whatever, these blogs or articles will continue to happen until Nintendo changes their business road map, but it will be a very long time until they are dire fina...
They have close to 12 billion in the bank other vaulable assests (15.3 billion) and only 2 million in debt... to say they are in finacial straights is a bit over stated. Yes they stand to lose close 335 million for 2013, it would take close to 30 straight years of losses for them to be in serious trouble (assuming losses and cash on hand stay constant).
I think you're definitely on to something. I think it boils down to, not necessarily being lazy, but competing. Nintendo has not done a very good job establishing release windows for their 1st party games to 3rd parties. 3rd parties don't want their games new or milked to compete against a Mario Kart or a Zelda release. Even the CODs or Battlefields of the world have a hard time competing against the Mario Worlds. Especially new IPs, I can't even remember the last time a 3rd ...
EA's distain for Nintendo goes all the back to gamecube days. But I really believe that it's Nintendo's network, or lack there of, that really unhinged their relationship. There's so many restrictions and difficulties for 3rd parties like EA to set everything up ie; easy match making, micro-transactions, possible DRM, more micro-tranactions, and the store setup.
Its not that simple though, while Nintendo needs to change their image, it can't just go all-mature/teen games. That would be like disney/pixar all of sudden making rated R movies. The 8-13yr market is still very valuable to them. But again, they have to open themselves up mabye make a M game or two to show diversity. Not mention just completely revamp their online network(s).
Now EA giving business advice when it comes to quality is all little un-nerving especially with such ...
I'm not saying it's not wrong and MS shouldn't be scourned for this, it's just that practically every company has done it at one point or another.
oh come on man, every company does this promote their products. It wasn't all that long ago that Sony paid "journalist" and I use that term loosely, to say good things about their movie releases. Some companies make it very apparent others try and to be slick about it and MS just got caught.
I just remembered it was the first time Mario felt like an adventure game then the ususal point-A-to-point-B formula. I really hope the Wii U virtual console starts to release some N64 games soon.
EA with Simcity and Battlefield...
I don't think it's as rampant as we all think it is. I mean if there are one or two just ridiculous fanboy articles, blogs, or responses we tend to generalize. If you look at politics here in the states you would think that everyone hates one side or the other Dem vs Rep when most people tend to be in the middle. I understand where fanboyism grows from, I hated Sega during the SNES days, mostly because I didn't have one and parents refused to let me have two systems. Well as I ...
So Capcom = Zynga?
I think you meant David Cage game (singlar) didn't read anyone bashing on Heavy Rain. The guy make polarizing games, you either like them or dislike them.
LOL wow nice try googled it and the first link that came up negated your comment: http://www.computerandvideo...
It costs 27 million to just produce. Then you got marketing and production costs, they spent 18 million on a smaller release for Heavy Rain, so conversatively let's say 25 million(larger international release)?
Then you assume every g...
@miyamoto are you serious???
1. Every major technology company has faced patent lawsuits one time or another, saying Nintendo stole innovation is quite a mundane statement... see Google, Samsung, Apple, and of course Sony.
2. So by that statement anyone anywhere that creates a tablet with gaming is a theif?
3. Lol that they lost one and will probably settle out of court. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose. Sony and Microsoft and Immersion for example.

I would say anything released next is pretty much the most anticipated at this point. But inFamous might be the only game I pay for day one.
