However, let's not get over excited here, most western countries restrict free speech in some way or form.

Umm, to sign in you need an internet connection obviously. Once it's done, disconnect the internet and it will automatically go into offline mode.
You can still launch games offline. Of course, except online-based games like L4D2 or DOTA.
A lot of people forget about this. You need only sign in once then you can go offline as long as you keep your PC on.

Just because they don't sound like each other in the english voices, they still have virtually the same DNA. Regardless, Big Boss and Solid Snake have always had the same voice except in MGS4.

I think he himself said in an interview that he is libertarian. He is obviously a secularist but still right-wing. What he expressed in Bioshock Infinte are two extremes that both lead to chaos. First is the religious conservatism by Comstock in Columbia. Second is the anarcho-communism of Daisy Fitzroy. Both are extremists and both are corrupt and commit atrocities in the game.

what are you talking about? Solid Snake is the clone of Big Boss, so it makes absolute sense for them to have the same voice actors. The reason why Big Boss in MGS4 was voiced by someone else is because he's like 80 years old and it would sound a bit strange seeing two different people talking with the same voice and since Hayter was already putting on an older voice for Old Snake.
The fact is, there is no real story reason for him getting dropped.

Kojima already gave his reason why. He said that he wanted a new voice because MGS is taking a bold new direction and will be very different to older MGS games.
Basically, there's no real signficant reason. Akio Otsuka, the japanese voice of Snake, is returning.
So, in reality this does feel like a selfish decision made by Kojima.
Really sad. I do hope our petitioning and pressure can get Konami and Kojima to change their minds.
David Hayter gave up half of his salary to get the original voice actors of MGS1 to return in Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes.
You don't need to play Witcher 1. Just read the plot on wiki or something.
But definitely play Witcher 2. The storyline in the second entry is quite important to the overall plot.
