I agree with this blog post pretty much completely. :)

My first Metal Gear game was on the NES way back in the day(about 24 years ago). I still have fond memories of seeing the 'state of the art graphics' (at least at the time), with Snake having a cigarette, lol.

In saying that, as my life circumstances changed, I never really had the chance to get into what people call the 'main' Metal Gear games, but now that my kids are growing up, I've now got a bit more time to put into games, so collections like this a...

Looking forward to this. Pinball fx2 is a really addictive game, and it plays really well.

Lol. I started gaming with the BBC Micro in early 1985, then moved onto the NES the following year.

I've had every Nintendo system with the exception of the Virtual Boy, and in fact I still have all of the original consoles, which all still work perfectly - which is why I know that Nintendo hardware is the most reliable of all the console makers.

I am aware that Nintendo used to make an effort in creating consoles which had more advanced graphics than th...

If there is one thing that Nintendo know how to do right, it's build reliable hardware. Maybe not technologically advanced hardware in most cases, but it is pretty much solid and reliable, which is why I believe that this is false.

Although, as happens with every platform, it takes a while to get the development right, and it takes a while for developers to get to grips with it.

But this rumour goes against the things that the big developers have been sa...

@firefoxprime

Yes, I am aware that the DSi and DSiXL have the DsiWare store that allows you to download small games, that obviously can't be played on a regular DS/DSLite. However, these are downloadable games, and the business model for them as a whole is different from retail.

And with regards to the PSP-E1000, although it doesn't have wifi, it can STILL play PSN and PSP download games that are downloaded via Sony's MediaGo software, and upload...

Note that this is the Wii FAMILY PACK, aimed at families who have not yet bought a Wii, and are probably likely not to give a damn about Gamecube games.

Nintendo released this not for us, but for themselves (cheaper production, therefore more profit), and for those who haven't bought a Wii yet - just to pick up a last gasp sales surge for the dying console.

Those who really want backwards compatibility with Gamecube would already have a Wii by now, or pos...

@jacksheen0000

You mean like owners of the original BC compatible PS3? What happens when their console breaks? Sony removed that feature from ALL models soon after release. Nintendo remove GC features from the Wii 5 YEARS after release (and only in Europe at the moment).

And it is very easy to pick up a used Wii or Gamecube if necessary (plus it would be cheaper than buying new). OR, you could send in your broken console to Nintendo to be repaired.

I think that the people who really wanted BC with Gamecube would have already purchased a Wii by now. I doubt that there were core gamers sitting on the fence for the past 5 years.

This is purely a move that reduces the cost to manufacture, and provide a cheaper entry level option that will probably continue to run alongside the WiiU.

And to complain about a loss of BC after 5 years is really just nit-picking at this stage. Some companies removed BC within ...

@Etseix:

I think you need to read the whole comment I made, and the original post that I replied to.

MasterCornholio was complaining that Nintendo released several versions of the DS - to which I replied that Sony have done exactly the same (but also with the PS3 in addition to the PSP), so why single out Nintendo for doing something that is common for manufacturers to do.

I didn't say anything about Sony being worse than Nintendo - it wa...

@crXss:

Or you could just buy the $10 add-on for your existing 3DS if it is true?

5404d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

Because the rumour could really damage perception of the 3DS as a whole, and also damage sales. THAT is why companies comment on potentially damaging rumours.

5404d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

It also happened with the PSP too. And the PS3 for that matter. Does that make Sony worse than Nintendo?

No. Because redesigns to improve the hardware and take advantage of newer and/or cheaper technology to make the business more profit is commonplace.

However, with the DS and PSP (excluding the PSP Go), the games could be played on ALL of the hardware revisions.

I don't think Nintendo would go down this route, as it would split the u...

I agree with you in many respects, but for me at least, I want my games handheld to play games. I'm not interested in it posting to Twitter or Facebook - I've got my PC and my phone to do that.

As far as I can see, and I risk going completely off topic, Sony are once again putting loads of tech into their handhelds to make it an 'all-in-one' device. I've not met many gamers who wanted Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Skype etc on their handheld - people m...

Well you could argue that the PSP Go alienated many previous PSP owners due to the lack of UMD drive. :P

Regardless, this is mainly aimed at new players, and if this rumour is true, existing owners can purchase the analog add-on for $10, so how much of a big deal is it really?

Just because they have revealed some things that turned out to be true, doesn't mean that everything they say is true.

Even a broken watch is right twice a day. :P

I don't think it's a case of Sony doing their homework - it's purely different company ideology. Sony's aim is to recreate the home console in a handheld form, whereas I think that Nintendo want there to be a distinction with the two. Having played FPS games on the DS, I know that it can work without 2 analog sticks, as the touch screen can be used.

However, it's not just Nintendo that have released several revisions of their hardware - Sony have release...

Well according to the main article, this extra pad (if true) would also be released as an add-on to existing 3DS machines.

One thing that I am confused about on here, though - why all the DS hate? Constant complaints about how Nintendo released the DS, then the DS Lite, then DSi, then DSi XL. Yet Sony released the PSP, then the PSP 2000, then the PSP 3000, then the PSP Go, and now will be releasing another PSP (without Wi Fi).

It's what happens with tec...

It's hardly a last ditch attempt by Nintendo!! They have been handheld kind for several years, and they know the business better than most.

Of course, when Sony offered free games with the PSPGo shortly after launch, you would class that as a genius move by Sony, no?

This is simply preparing the way for higher sales going into the Christmas season, and to head off the release of the Vita (plus assuring increased sales of Nintendo 1st party games over Chr...

I bought my 3DS the day BEFORE the price drop so that I could take advantage of the Ambassador program.

Then I ordered one from Amazon the following day (post price drop), took advantage of the free Amazon Prime trial to get next day delivery, and then when it arrived, I took the new one back to the store I paid full price for, and got a full refund.

So essentially, I paid £115 for my 3DS, and still managed to get into the Ambassador program for the 20 f...
