The 3DS doesn't really need a second analog stick, as the touch screen can be used in most cases to change camera angle for most games.
When you consider that many DS (and 3DS) games don't really use the touch screen for anything other than inventory purposes, the touch screen is the perfect way to change the camera.
However, Monster Hunter will be making use of the touch screen heavily, apparently, which doesn't really leave room for adding camer...
At the moment, it's not dividing the user base any more than the Guitar Hero games on the DS. This is an optional attachment for the Monster Hunter game.
Sure, it can be used in other games if devs want (in which case, they can make it a bundle), but as it stands just now, this is for Monster Hunter, and is OPTIONAL.
And to all those who disagreed with all my comments on this thread without commenting (the Phantoms) - this has been confirmed by the MH se...
I might just pick this up for my PS3, and use it to replace my Dual Shock.
I've personally never really liked the Dual Shock controller (don't hate me for it!! lol), and in the days of the PS2/GC, I preferred the Gamecube controller.
The 360 controller is very similar to the GC one, but improves on it, and I find it more comfortable than the PS3 one (I prefer the position of the analog sticks).
So having a PS3 controller that is laid ...
It's an attachment for the Monster Hunter game, and is completely OPTIONAL. You'll probably be able to get the MH game on it's own, or buy the game and attachment bundle.
The MH game can be played without the attachment, but if you use the attachment, the controls will be more similar to the Wii game - that has been confirmed by the series supervisor.
Of course, there is also the option for this to be used in other games, as it has more flexibili...
@Sitris
It is an option attachment for the Monster Hunter game - so that the game controls more like the Wii version.
You can play the game without it and have no problems.
It might have the possibility of being used in future games, because unlike the GH Grip for he DS, it could be useful, but at the moment, it is for Monster Hunter only, and is completely optional.
You'll probably be able to buy the game just like the W...
Oh for goodness sakes! It's almost like some people can't/don't read anymore.
This is an OPTIONAL peripheral for the Monster Hunter game (developed in conjunction with Nintendo). The idea is to have it closely resemble the control methods for the Wii version as opposed to the PSP version.
The game can be played without it, it is completely optional, but is intended to enhance the experience.
However, unlike the Grip peripheral f...
For some reason, N4G keeps the closing bracket in my link above, so here it is again:

So, in summary, OPTIONAL peripheral for Monster Hunter game (and possibly others), to give the same kind of control as the Wii version as opposed to the PSP version (also the water elements that were removed from the PSP version have been a...
@SilentNegotiator
This attachment puts the 3DS around the same width and depth as the Vita, so that added girth isn't that much of an issue (unless you had an issue with the size of the Vita, of course).
I find the current 3DS awkward to hold after long periods, because the corners dig into my hands after some time. This attachment would actually solve that problem for me.
I don't see the need for a second analog stick on the 3DS, be...
OK, here is my opinion on this.
First of all, it looks like it is an attachment for the MH game (much in the same vein as Guitar Hero on the DS), so it's not a necessary attachment, but it may have uses in other games. If the price is low (under £15), or it is bundled free with the MH game, it's not that big a deal.
Being a 3DS owner, one of the problems I have found when playing for long periods of time is that the 3DS is actually quite uncomfo...
It seems that they aren't really targeting teens (as in mid-teens), but more the early teens and younger.
To be honest, it's a worthwhile thing to do. Yes, the Vita is coming out, but it's not really a good idea to spend £250 on an expensive, top tech gadget for a 10 year old, as they tend not to take as much care over their things. Much better to buy something that costs under £100, and if it gets broken, replace it. If it introduces the kid to serio...
Couple of things here:
Yes, the WiiU was in development before then - it was in development before or around the launch of the original Wii.
Does anyone notice that this patent is only enforcable in Europe? It was filed by SCEE, and only covers EU states.
It seems that, while the PSP is mentioned in the patent, the diagram and description are more like the Vita (see pages 12 and 13 of the patent document), where it shows front touch screen a...
Because the world would implode at that point, that's why. lol.
And if you take away the one thing that a lot of people on N4G do more than play games, which is stick up for and protect their 'brand' of console (whatever the cost), then we would just have utter chaos in the streets as people argue violently about whether Coke is better than Pepsi (which it is, by the way. :P).
Many would agree that this is the price you pay for being an early adopter, though. The people who have to have the latest stuff always pay more.
Do I think that I should be compensated for buying my PS3 on release when the price was dropped soon after? Or because it is now half the price it was when I bought it? No I don't. I understand that price drops occur - sometimes early, sometimes quite late.
Nintendo didn't technically have to do anything...
Of course it's a sign of evolution. Price drops happen as the product gets cheaper to produce etc. It doesn't mean that the end is nigh for the PS3 at all.
Look at the 360 too - the price has dropped on the 250GB model too, but no successor has been announced yet.
The price dropped on the 3DS too, but that's only just got started.
All it does is create more demand for the product, increase market share, and ensure that the audie...
That may well be the case, but at least the updates are still free, and the 10 GBA games are not set to be publically released in the near future.
I still don't understand why there were disagrees to my comment, though, although it does happen quite frequently on here.
The OP stated that he's not going to waste his time with these games. So, either he has a 3DS already (and would be silly not to take advantage of the free games, since he is entitled ...
Wonder why there are disagrees to my comment?
I don't think that I said anything incorrect! The games ARE free if you bought the 3DS early, and you CAN update them free when they are released to the public.
These are facts, so why disagree?
Why not? They are free (if you got a 3DS early), and you'll be able to upgrade them to the full version (including full save functions) free of charge when they are released to the public.
Here's what Nintendo say about the early access versions of these games (and it certainly wasn't some hidden secret that has just been revealed):
"Features of the Virtual Console NES titles (priority delivery version)
- An electronic manual explaining game controls will be included.
- The official version* (which will be delivered at a later date) will include a full electronic manual.
- Alternating multiplayer modes are supported...
Don't forget that the 3DS also has motion control built in, which could be used as a selling point.
In all reality, though, I don't think that Nintendo will drop or scale back the 3D on the 3DS (besides, there is no need to scale it back because you have the slider).
If anything, they will probably scale back the focus on marketing the 3D aspect - put more focus on the games and other features, with just a mention about the 3D. 3D is in the name anyw...
Just like the peripherals that came out for Guitar Hero?
This might not be just for one game - it could be used for other games, just like the balance board for the Wii. That was intended to be used primarily for one game, but the did develop other games that made use of it - and even used it as an option control method for other games.
In my opinion, it's better than the peripherals that came out with Guitar Hero (or the UDraw tablet), as this one DOES ...
