Having played NFSW since the closed beta I completely agree with the review. This game is just a pathetic attempt to cash in a what was once a decent franchise, only the real die hard fanatics should apply, and even then they'll wish they hadn't.
"Who the hell buys boxed copies of PC games anymore other than people who don't normally play PC games?"
Wow, what an ignorant a$$hole you are. I purchase most of my games through retail stores (yeah I buy "boxed copies"). Why? Because I choose too, I prefer physical media to digital (although I embrace both) ... not to mention SC2 is a huge download that, even with todays fast internet speeds, would take hours to download. 1) Not everyone has super fa...
I was going to mention that myself. Activision DOES NOT control Blizzard products, therefor Activision CANNOT announce that THEY are going to make SC2 subscription based.
I totally expect all Activision products to be come subscription based in the near future, but Blizzard products, now that's a different story altogether.
Hey now, my current rig is almost 6 years old and I'm having no problems! LOL On saying that I'm just waiting on the last part to arrive for my new rig so I can put this one out to pasture.
The list is flawed simply because it's written by a console user for console users ... there is one genre of games that consoles don't do very well above all others, and that is the RTS genre. So it's pretty obvious that most (if not all) RTSs on a console are going to suck and should be avoided. Some of the games listed are half way decent on the PC ;)
How about, in some games, your characters inability to step on/over a tiny rock/crate/some other inanimate object!
That is true and I'd have thought anyone with an ounce of brain power would have realized this also. It appears he didn't, and that's why in his conclusion he claims WoW has no story ... not the tiny fraction he played, but WoW as a whole.
A 3 year old PC should be able to run SC2 just fine ... unless you bought a budget system built with only the slowest components available at the time. The PC I'm using right now is ... around 6 years old, and I spent a few hours playing SC2 on it just last night.
Nice article, it was good to see the game from the eyes of a complete n00b. I really enjoyed reading it ... but this article also illustrates the issues surrounding the game (or MMOs in general).
For those who don't play he demonstrates (whether in humor or not) the stigma of playing an MMO with headings like "Beard Status" and "Personal Smell", both of which get progressively worse as the week goes on. Yes I found them funny and seriously hope he took...
How could I have forgotten Elite II !!? I played the hell out of that game, never did find the ship (that may not have even existed) that was rumored to be better than everything in the game ... but was located somewhere in the far reaches of the galaxy and nobody knew where. If only the internet existed then LOL
"Private Servers" are kind of pointless if you want to experience WoW, they lake the AI routines for the boss fights and the whole point of the WoW experience is the leveling up, learning to play your class and getting better gear (and achievements I suppose). Private servers negate all that, making it a little pointless after you've drooled at your level 80 wearing all the best gear only GMs get to have.
About THE only use for private servers is for people who ...
I think this is a good move. I'm, you could say, more of a casual online player (I prefer single player offline) but I really hate it when I do go online to play a game (be it SCII or some FPS or whatever) only to have people on my team go around backstabbing. Yeah they get their "fun" by killing their "team mates", causing them to loose and pissing them off ... but for the rest the experience is ruined. When that happens there's nothing you can do to stop that per...
Wasn't Eliza like a psychologist? It didn't answer questions as such, stupid thing generally answered a question with a question LOL
Got to love the Amiga, I had an A500+, then got an A1200 which I upgraded the hell out of until I'd spent thousands on it. CD-ROM, Apollo '040 with 4meg!!! and that IDEFix you needed to use a Hard Drive AND a CD-ROM drive LOL ... then I went crazy and spent stupid amounts of money getting the PowerPC accelerators, sadly they were released at the point when the Amiga was dying so not a good investment.
I remember playing Quake and Doom, even though "PC Owners"...
I played NFS World all the way through the Beta phases and wasn't hugely impressed by it. They appear to have taken the tracks from previous NFS titles and mashed them together into a "driving world". The leveling is a grind fest, as you level more tracks open, but still each level you have only a handful of tracks to race over and over and over ...
And now they want to charge you for it! I don't think the game justifies any further payout other than initial...
Kind of like Need For Speed World LOL
The Subscription model works well on only a few genres, FPS games, racing games, fighting games are a few that it doesn't.
Actually this move will not increase piracy, people will just stop buying the games that require a subscription to play online. Of course when the games flop piracy will be blamed because "analysts" say that us gamers actually WANT to pay a monthly fee to play our games, since the game flopped it has to be piracy! Just like the kids who do bad things, it's not bad parenting, it's violent video games to blame.
This is the industry we support, they NEVER stand...
Those 3 words don't put this issue to rest. What Blizz did was a smart business move, they have tons of fans (50,000 posts can't be wrong) complaining about RealID and threatening to quit and not buy future games and expansions (some already did). I believe we're not out of the woods yet ... Blizz knew this backlash would affect their game sales, so they "caved in". I'm willing to wager a large sum of money that once StarCraft II and Catacylsm have been released (and...
Many posts over the months have discussed WoW and it's dominance, and one comment many people (myself included) said was that nothing will kill WoW ... except Blizzard. If RealID is implemented our predictions could come true a LOT sooner than we ever imagined.
I do not agree with piracy, but no matter what happens piracy will be blamed for DOA 2 failing on the PC. Many people, myself included, bought DAO and were prepared to by the sequel, but after this news will not buy it ... so (for the sake of numbers) let's say 100,000 PC gamers choose NOT to buy the game period, that's 100,000 lost sales (duh LOL), but this will not be attributed to fans rebelling against the injustice, nope all we'll hear is it's down to piracy why the sales...
