How is it bad for the industry when developers get a little money from 20 million people as opposed to $60 from 500,000 if a game doesn't sell well? If it takes two to three years to develop a game and GP provides 200 million a month in funding just for half(and really a third considering install rates) it's great for the industry. It means Microsoft alone can contribute over a billion dollars a year to developers. That would be 10 AAA games a year and 20 others. No one could ever cla...
I'd rather play games on Game Pass and if I really like them wait until they are discounted later. Better then paying full price and getting something I play a couple of hours and put on a shelf forever. This unwillingness to admit the value of Game Pass isn't silly it's stupid.
Yeah. That makes sense. With unemployment rates high you should eliminate the most affordable option for people.
Unfortunately the gaming press doesn't have much journalistic integrity because it's been mostly clickbait for years. And it's not going to get any better because people continue to climb n the sites.
Yoshi when they say a silicon shortage I'm pretty sure they're using the word silicon as a catchall phrase for chips. They don't mean a shortage of wafers. And actually switching the node would make a difference if it were a shortage of actual silicon because smaller nodes allow for more chips for the same size wafer. It's like breaking down a dollar into nickels and dimes. You'd get 10 dimes from one dollar (10nm) but 20 nickels (5nm) from the same dollar. Apple is the ca...
And yet Microsoft did let Sony onto Azure. And Sony asked to be on Azure. And Nintendo could end up on Azure.
Players are sometimes fanboys. Companies are usually strictly about the business. Here's a couple of things that might actually surprise some of you.
America has sanctions against Russia and China. But most American products are made in China and America buys 13% of its oil from Russia. Talk makes headlines but business is business.
@Sully
What makes you think that the Series X can't play this game at 4k in VR. Xbox doesn't have a VR headset but it's more than capable of handling one. The X may already be playing games at 4k but it still has plenty of power left because many of the features that maximize its architecture haven't been used yet. Once they start using variable rate shading and Direct ML along with other things we'll see that only 40% of the power has been used. A lot o...
Could be a money grab in anticipation of another company acquiring all of Remedy. 4% is really low for a company their size unless it's about a unique opportunity for money. Remedy isn't like a small investment in a startup. Look for a acquisition announcement at one of these conferences coming up.
Yoshi, I believe Playground expanded to two teams.
Dark Souls is on PC. So that's not exclusive. So you have the Spider-Man add on and a tech demo.
And yet it's a old game most of you have already played. So if that actually counts for something so do all of upgraded games on S and X that cost....free.
Yes, cause PlayStation had a ton of games. It had a remake(read:old game)a add on and tech demo. With Bethesda Xbox will have games. With Microsoft's willingness to spend money some of them will be free Sony games that PlayStation fans will pay $70 for. PlayStation fans whined about the Bethesda acquisition. Keep going on about Xbox having no games. Its why you won't be getting any Bethesda games. Microsoft has a 140 billion dollars sitting in a room. What else are you going to talk ...
Very nice, Orchard.
I think maybe the most important thing to come out of this trial will be exposing the corporate tax code advantage major companies get over small businesses and the average American. This is the best spotlight since the Coming to America trial.
I believe if Epic was up for sale Microsoft would outbid Sony for it. Just to bring the Epic Store under Microsoft as well as Unreal engine. Microsoft would never let Sony outbid them. If you think they wanted iD tech, Unreal has huge market value. Its everywhere.
JamIn, while I understand the concept of a loss leader I don't believe Microsoft is going with the Costco food court angle. I believe it's about tax deductible R&D. Besides Kinect and their hardware development learned from Xbox, consider the amount learned from Live about Azure. Think of what compute in gaming will bring to compute in the corporate world. Microsoft has used Xbox as a development platform for bigger industries. And still they can build the gaming itself into a v...
Father Merrin, there's more to it than you're looking at. If you look at things Microsoft has done over the years in gaming you may miss the things that grow from it. Kinect is considered a failure. But not if you look at the big picture. Kinect beget Hololens. Hololens just got Microsoft a multibillion dollar military contract. The controller is used by the military. Microsoft's work on consoles taught them how to make Surface products. Surface is the 5th largest computer company...
Bathyj, the industry I changing. Sony can adjust or die.
What I now isn't what will be. You want to get ahead of things. In the case of Game Pass Microsoft was first and others have to adjust. Just lke Microsoft is adjusting on 1st party studios. You can no longer be complacent in gaming.
2019 would have been based on Xbox One. There is l no way any console is sold at a lose so late in a generation. Every unit sold is at a profit after the first 18-24 months. The PS3 was an exception. Even if you include Series R&D it's only 500 or 600 million over several years.
Foxhound and Crayon I believe the difference between the Stalker 2 release on Xbox and Playstation might be 3 months but it's also $70. Instead of free.
