This. If gaming goes bad or becomes something I don't like I can buy older gaming systems and games that I've missed over the years. And even if I somehow run out of games, there are other ways to spend my free time. I'll be absolutely fine. :)

Great news. It'll be interesting to see where they take this series. :)

Plus I might be the only one, but I'd love to see a new King's Field. I know, I know, the Souls series is a spiritual successor to it, but KF4, while rough around the edges in some areas, was absolutely dripping with atmosphere and was genuinely terrifying in places. As much as I love the Souls formula, I'd jump on KF5 in a heartbeat.

It's a phenomenon that happens all the time, and not just in the gaming world. Sometimes it's a "straw that broke the camel's back" moment, or an event that just so happens to rally a large enough group around its cause and snowball from there. No conspiracy, it's just the way these things happen. But of course we'll get the obligatory "Why weren't people angry about such and such that happened before? Such hypocrites!" The world keeps on spinning p...

Hard to say, but consider we still have vinyl and CD album releases. Physical will be around for as long as people buy them.

Me too. :) This will be my first Monster Hunter game.

Yup. Seems some gamers act as if we gamers have a duty to support the industry at any cost. But really, if tomorrow I decided to stop buying games completely and invest the money elsewhere, would I be "to blame" if the industry shrinks?
For example, I'm a staunch buyer of physical games. If gaming went all digital I'd probably just buy myself some older systems and buy all the games I missed out on. Should I be shamed for simply buying things I want and not buying t...

Exactly! Also, don't forget Monster Hunter World. The director came out and said loot boxes would destroy the balance of the game and negatively affect the experience, so he would not put them in despite the game being extremely loot oriented. I wasn't interested in the game before, but now I'm definitely getting it. Anyone who has the mindset of gamers first HAS to be capable of creating a great game, or at least one better than the tripe EA pumps out.

The first game is still by far my favourite. The campaign had the greatest sense of intrigue and the best level design of the series by far. Plus the combat was relatively grounded but also strategic.

Yup, just look at how we're seeing physical releases of indie games that were previously digital only. And not just sites like Limited Run Games, but releases on Amazon for Super Meat Boy, Sine Mora EX and others. I'm all physical when it comes to my games.

You didn't even build it. You're the publisher, not the developer. All you did was force Dice's hand into making the loot box system. *slow clap* WOW EA, you worked SO HARD.

A salary of 19 million? But Jinger told me he can barely afford a loaf of bread! They need MTs to survive in this harsh, unsustainable industry!!!

;)

With the exception of Persona 5, Ni No Kuni is my favourite JRPG of the past decade. I can hardly wait for this one. :D

Are you telling me you honestly believe EA couldn't have made a massive, MASSIVE profit on Battlefront 2 without loot boxes?

Perhaps the solution to these "exuberant" costs is to self publish like Ninja Theory did with Hellblade. Boom, problem solved, profits go only to the developers aka the people who actually deserve our money, and not a loot box in sight.

I mean, sure, I personally prefer Dark Souls, but it's still a really close call and Demon's Souls is still incredible. It has easily the best sense of atmosphere of any of the Souls games, and it's a real marvel how such a low budget game that was expected to sell under 100,000 units was still so utterly brilliant. I can understand why many still consider it to be the best in the series.

This echoes my own experience. When people first started hyping it just before the Japanese release, I checked out some gameplay and thought it looked crap. "People are just hyping because it's a PS3 exclusive, move along." Then I finally got around to playing it, and it was an instant 10/10 and my favourite RPG ever, and started off my favourite series in all of gaming. Didn't see that one coming...

Banned? No. But I think some regulations will be in order. The Belgian and Australian government have already got involved, deeming BF2 to have worrysome gambling properties.

I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, but if it's something simple, free, unpunishable, and only ever results in rewards, from a psychological standpoint it's a no brainer. It's like telling a bunch of students "make sure you work hard on your essay" and then give everyone a C no matter what, except those who didn't even write an essay get an A+. Fewer people will be inclined to work hard on future essays. The system created that scenario, and the same i...

If the game awarded credits for actually participating in the game and rewarding good performance during the match, people wouldn't be doing this. The game provides absolutely no incentive to actually play well to unlock things, so why do it? They're not lag switching or hacking leader boards; they're using an utterly broken, poorly designed system to their advantage at no price. Can't exactly blame them.

It's up to devs and publishers to convince us to part with our cash. Not our fault if they can't manage that.

I wasn't interested in this game at first, then the creator came out and slammed loot boxes, insisting they wouldn't be in the game (despite it being very loot oriented) as they would ruin the intended experience. Once I heard that I knew I had to take notice. Anyone who genuinely cares about video games as art must be capable of making something great. Looking forward to the beta! :)
