I actually thought Freedom Wars was excellent. Loved the setting, loved the combat, in some aspects I think it beats even Monster Hunter World. (Although MH's scale, scope and depth makes it better overall) I'd love to see a sequel or spiritual successor.

As both a gamer and a fan of literature, I couldn't agree more. Each medium has their own strengths and weaknesses and each are capable of bringing stories to life in different ways.

If you don't know who he was or just want "game news about games" then why did you click on the link?

As someone who used to watch every Marvel film at the cinema hyped to the max and who is now sick to death of superhero films, I can't help but think he's making a worrying comparison.

I love the Vita but it was obvious that support for it was going to drop soon enough. Oh well, I've still got a bunch of games in my backlog and several to buy this year. I for one will be playing the Vita for a long while.

Just to point out though that cart production has only ended in US and Europe, so we may still see some English Asian import releases in the future.

Like it or not, governments are getting involved and looking to regulate or in some cases completely ban loot boxes.

I'm loving this too. EA thought they were too big to get a kickback. "Just a bunch of salty gamers." Nope, now the court of law is against them. Entire governments are against them. It's glorious to watch.

Exactly. Loot boxes are objectively making games worse.

A lot of old games are better than the majority of current gen games. I'd say SSX3 is one of them.

Spanking children in the UK is illegal and can get you locked up. :/

Nice map but I kept getting lost.

Yeah, people tend to forget that "casuals" can become interested in games without them being hand-holding sims. Minecraft blew up among a really young audience and it's actually a pretty complex game, all things considered, especially in the early days before all the tutorials. That didn't stop casuals and little kids becoming enamoured with it.

So because Sony are releasing game after game, they're not looking to the future? Because obviously after 2018 there are no PS4 games coming! Oh wait no we have Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone and The Last of Us Part 2 for 2019 and others presumably in the wings. Then by 2019 new games will be announced for 2020. Yeah, real short term.

Also, playing the long game is something you generally do at the start of the generation, not 5 years into it. Otherwise it's a REALLY...

I don't consider it a sport nor do I consider professional gamers athletes. Do we need a new word for such things? For example, poker, chess, go, checkers all fall into the same category. They're competitive and require a lot of skill at high level but they're not really sports. What can we call them? 'Game' is too vague, that could apply to anything. I really don't know, personally. :/

The combat is complex, but the game does a really good job of introducing you to new techniques and different ways to play against different enemies. It doesn't exactly lump you with a mountain of information, it's actually one of the best examples of teaching the player to adapt I've seen in a while.

I completely agree and I'm glad the government is getting involved. My comment was more a rebuttal to the ridiculous notion that we can waive all blame from publishers by claiming "just show restraint, lol." I was just showing how the same mindset could be applied to a wider scope and inevitably destroy the "restraint" argument in its entirety.

"But loot boxes aren't so bad, just show some restraint."

Totally agree. I'll show restraint by... Not buying games with loot boxes in them. I might be tempted but really, do I need them? Or I could just wait for several months until the price drops to less than half and therefore not have to spend as much money. It's not like I'll suffer by not buying at launch, the game will probably be in a much better state by that time anyway. Alternatively I ...

No! Darn it, Michael Pachter! Now that you've predicted it, it'll never happen! Curse this reverse Nostradamus! :P

In all seriousness, I think 10mil is in reach.

It's so secret, not even the Space Cats know what it is!

I'm with you there. I could just buy all the games and systems that I haven't gotten around to playing yet. My backlog is big enough anyway, I'd be fine if I stopped at this gen and never went forward.
