LBP2 made huge strides for the series and introduced things like microchips, music creation, and other additions that go far and beyond what a simple DLC would offer. The story mode was a huge improvement, too.
As for LBP3, that was Sumo Digital.
But I thought that LiVe SeRvIcEs were the way of the future and the best way forward for the industry?
Playing without the gambits turns it into an annoying, over-micromanaging mess. The gambits are there for a reason - the game was built with them in mind.
The people complaining about it have a problem with fully grown adults viewing this content. That's the issue they have, not that "kids might see it." Bonkers, I know.
As much as I love Uncharted, Naughty Dog are always looking to move forward and try new things. We don't know what other IP might be on the horizon that'll blow our socks off, and I'd rather let the series lie than have it milked for all its worth.
Fatality 1: Jumps up and stomps on them like a goomba. Their legs buckle and snap under the pressure. He jumps again and butt stomps and decimates their torso, leaving them as just a head and arms floating in a pool of bones and flesh. "SO LONG, DEAR BOWSER!"
Fatality 2: Calls for Yoshi who swallows them and plops out an egg. Mario grabs his trusty mallet he used in Donkey Kong and walks towards the egg as the mallet tune starts playing, smashes the egg with a single strike...
I remember people saying the same things about blu-ray when the PS3 launched. "It's just bloated data!" "You can fit any game on a DVD!" And then Blue Dragon happened. Then Lost Odyssey happened. Then the rest of the industry followed suit because as games got bigger, it BECAME necessary. And even now some games can barely squeeze into 50GB.
I'm not exactly one to champion graphics as the be-all and end-all, and many of my favourite games, including this ...
The original Ratchet and Clank. So many different and varied planets that can be lush and inviting, (Pokitaru, Eudora) deadly and atmospheric, (Orxon) stunning and futuristic,(Kalebo III, Kerwan) or wild and scary (Oltanis, Umbris). I was pretty disappointed that numerous levels were cut for the PS4 remake.
Personally it doesn't bother me, and I actually don't think the messages would work as well. Because you have far more freedom to leap onto buildings and traverse expansive areas, run along rows of rooftops, having messages scattered around might actually be too much of a distraction and get you killed, (especially in areas with the rooftop assassins) whereas in Dark Souls you generally have strict paths and forks in the road, so it'd be easy to walk along, read every message in y...
Fromsoft were receiving flak for this since Demon's Souls. Ten years on and nothing has changed, so...
Also, I'd be interested to know what should happen if their games DID come with an easy mode, and people still found it too hard. Should they then release a very easy mode? What if some people still found that too hard? Should they git gud? My Mum can't play Mario Kart without spinning out and constantly falling off the track. Is Nintendo evil for not making it easier t...
But they're losing money on potential buyers by not including a higher difficulty. Don't they want money?
Yup. People have brought up the easy mode debate since Demon's Souls and in 10 years, over the course of 5 more games, Fromsoft have continued to do the same as always. Regardless of whether people like that fact or dislike it, I'd say it points to it being their intention, alright.
Ever since Demon's Souls people have been asking for an easy mode, and Fromsoft have done nothing of the sort. That was 10 years ago and they're doing very well for themselves, going from a no-name Dev team that very few had even heard of making ultra-niche titles, to one of the most lauded and recognisable developers in the world.
Also, I highly doubt Miyazaki would compromise his vision for "a little mo money" as people like to claim. The guy literally ...
"The problem with many video games is that there isn't much there to master or that there isn't really a need to master the mechanics, or the game itself, in order to do well."
Yeah, I think a lot of older JRPGs have that issue where instead of learning unique strategies, you can just grind and level over the enemies, taking away the possibilities of using the entire repertoire of abilities and magic. I think the Persona series did a great job of dealing w...
"From are not just making tougher games to cause grief to the gamer, it is part of their design philosophy."
EXACTLY. I say, more power to the people who make our games. I don't like RTS or sim type games but I have absolute respect for developers who pour all their efforts into making the best RTS/sim they can, not trying to tempt people like me with "okay, we'll simplify things and change stuff around so everyone will like it!" They tried that ...
Same here. My backlog could last me years, plus there are plenty of games I never got around to playing, and even IF I start running out in several years I have other interests that I can spend my free time on. It'd almost be a relief if gaming goes the way of streaming so I can jump ship.
People lost their sh** when Street Fighter 5 and Tekken 7 released with 8 frames of native input lag. Top players gave up on certain characters entirely just because the lag affected their game plan so much. When T7's was reduced by just a few frames via patch, it felt like a world of difference, and characters like Devil Jin went from being considered super risky, to top tier, literally overnight.
Unless you're playing a turn based game, even just a few extra fram...

But seriously, when I think back to the hype generated when we saw skyscrapers topple into each other and a level of terrain manipulation beyond anything we'd ever seen, to see it come out like this and be forgotten and tossed aside so quickly is kind of sad.
