That's what people don't realise when MS/Sony talk about expecting a 10-year lifecycle.
The PS2 had huge success, and software releases, after the release of PS3.
So much, that if the PS3/X360 compare simalarily or better, next-gen should already be rolling out by now.

I probably will, although it's not a purchase im very happy about.
That being said, I always get suckered into it cause my friends who don't game as much as I do, All they play is CoD.
Much more excited to see BF3 in my livingroom.
I think because of the casual audience Skyrim will be GOTY!
Because Edler Scroll is not traditionally a casual game.
So on the surface they will make the gameplay easy to grasp, and enjoy (they've mad mixing spells really easy)
But also to cater to the more veteran ES fans, the game will have tons of depth.
Best of both worlds if you ask me.

I doubt anyone (nor you) will be playing this game and be thinking "geez where are the babies to kill? so unrealistic"

I wish almost every game had options to alter HUD, or completely remove HUD.
I wish I'd known that. They did seems overly excited as if it were a sporting match.

that being said, i don't think this footage will fair well in the public eye because some people won't like (understand) the Ultra-compettive side of it.
The commentator s sound like their announcing a Boxing-match.
Looks like more of the same, seeing a ton of respawn-screen, and really quick deaths
I've usually hated the Gears3 trailers.
Their often attempting to be very emotional.

I think people are basing 'good' on whether they'll buy it first week (or pre-order)
You even said yourself, your wallet won't let you get it at this time. So people who can't get tons of titles are limited to maybe 9+/10 games.
I, on the other hand, have been saving for this holidday rush. And Dead Island is the first of many titles I have already pre-paid for.
I'm a huge Dead Island fan, no matter the reviews.
Mainly because I love zombie/survival, RPG, freeroaming games.
I wasn't expecting DI to get anywhere near 90/100 scores.
I expected it to be bashed for it's arcade-style repetitive gameplay. (which I expect to enjoy)
Buying the small Call of Duty every year is getting tiring.
Well Battlefield3 has no actual chance of beating MW3 in sales.
Most people will be getting CoD because their familiar with the franchise (whether they like it or not), and will maybe try BF3. And the rest of gamers will probably be getting both.
There's only a very small portion of the industry that will only getting BF3. Mostly consisting of people who either have grown to despise CoD or are die-hard loyal to BF.

It is a combination of Activison's greed, laziness of the developers, and foolishness of the consumers.
There's a saying; don't mess with a good thing.
Activison has abused the industry by reselling the exact same thing year after year. We as gamers have allowed it merely because we keep buying it (myself included)
At last, maybe competition will force them to provide something new.
They did add Sludgehammer games into the mix.
I think they could be successful with a zomie-only title.
considering I've bought all W@W/BlackOps DLCs for the 1 zombie map, and never really even try the MP maps.
They've (dev) shown Next-Gen demonstrations.
This current gen is still pushing the power, but can't do Native-1080p.
And on top of that, little to no Anti-Aliasing can be used.
