back in the day supernintendo could only be fit into a shell the size of a supernintendo, it was the fastest for its time, for on the go they had gameboy. which was wildly less powerful. the processing power could only be fit into that form factor.
now the ps3 for example can only fit into a box the size of the current hw revision. and for on the go the psvita/tablets serve a much better experience than the gameboy originally did, yet again...

how they do it is by using larger areas to calculate the light bounce, so instead of tracing every ray, theyh use volumes pretty standard in all realtime GI engines to date.
so instead of calculating billions of lines they calculate whether a colume is close enough to transfer the light to the next volume etc. various smmoothing techniques later, they have a darn good approximation of the light bounce in a room.

the specs for their computer are as follows.
amd B50 x4 processor.
so like a 550 phenom2x2 unlocked using the sb710 thingy.
it runs crysis 2 @ dx11 with maldohd 3.0 at roughly 20-30 fps at 1360x768 (varies)
but it'll run MW3 @ 1080p full settings 8x AA at 60 steady.
it runs most of the games i put on it at ab...
its funny cause the article picture "actually" shows people fighting for "Real" issues but all we have is mw3 or the ending to mass effect 3 to complain about non stop.
