On topic: digital is fine if it's cheaper than retail and they let you pre dl the files. My understanding is that is not the case with GTA V so why bother?

Well you lot can scoff and pick at this all you want. I think Forza and Ryse look impressive and if they are proven to be rendering at 1080P native then this is the sign of powerful hardware. As this is an xbox article I'm not going to be a hypocrite and talk about the competition but I'm sure the games there will be great as well.
I'm going to play both at Eurogamer Expo so we'll see just how good.

All of these themes are fine in an 18+ adult game.
The problem is ignorant parents allowing children to play it and for me that means under 16's who are the most impressionable. 16-18 not so much a problem as they should be street wise by then.

Normally launch games are not representative of the consoles overall power. If devs are struggling to get the performance out of PS4 or X1 now then that does make me think that these modern consoles based on low power mobile parts might not have the overhead or longevity that we think they will or compared to last gen. I suspect they have been tarting around in the background with some stuff for the changeover/integration with the new live and something's gone screwy. I'm sure they'll get it sorted quickly. Live has been very stable over the last 6 yrs for me.

The truth is that they coupled a massively powerful CPU (under the right circumstances only), designed for optimized parallel workloads to a fairly poor GPU, a choked memory bus and a badly considered split ram arrangement.
In essence the system would only be exceptional where a developer could put significant resources into tailoring the code base to meet the very specific attributes of the architecture. As you would guess this means first party studios in the main.

No need to trash the competition. GT6 should be a great game on its own merit. Day one for me if the reviews warrant it.
It's not unusual for companies to buy up names that could relate to their products or miss direct customers.

Yep I know what you mean. XB1 just feels more next gen for me at the moment. I have an XB1 on order and thought that I'd wait and see how PS4 turns out before considering one perhaps middle of next year if it's any good or the multi plats turn out to be significantly better on PS4 which I somehow doubt at this stage.
I'm also excited for Forza and will look to try this and Titanfall at Eurogamer.

Er that's not right for London. They are only overlaying a small part of London, namely the old city of Westminster area and a bit above it. It's not even central London yet alone greater London.
It's a big map in GTA V but to compare to London is fail. I can't speak or other cities but the scales of Manhatten and SF don't look right either.

None of us are informed enough to know how powerful these next gen consoles really are. It's all speculation from armchair engineers.
When they get released I will await the tear downs and examinations made by industry professionals.

As for weather and time of day, yes I'm dissapointed that they choose not to pursue this in favour of graphics and resolution. 60fps was never at risk. I'd have taken 1600x900 upscaled to 1080p if i could have weather and ToD.
