That's 200,000 a month starting out, produced by this one plant. They're estimating 2 million units produced per month starting in October. They're further estimating 4 million units produced by this one plant for the launch. There are other plants producing the consoles as well.
I just submitted an article with pretty much the same information. If it gets posted, sorry about that.
The good news about this, if it's true, is that if there are 4 million units at launch and 2 million more per month, just from one plant, that is huge. I'm assuming this is all projected since the plants don't know what problems might arise during production, but if it goes as forecasted, this should help ramp up production much faster than the 360.

I'm not a tech know-it-all, but I believe he's referring to the PPU part of the cell. There's 1 PPE, and 7 SPE's. I'm wondering why they're using the PPE as the cell is designed to let the SPE's do almost everything, maybe that's what he discusses in the article. I can't read it at work though because of firewalls, anyone care to paste the article in here?
It's obvious from reading all of your posts that you're not Japanese, so just cut the crap.
This is a sign of developer burnout.. He'll be back for God of War 3, and he knows it.. :)
Pure flamebait. You repeat rumors that have been squashed months and months ago, then if I or someone else comes and shows that you're full of crap, then you say something idiotic like "Oh the broken PS3 will never succeed with the broken BetaRay and the overheating Cell processor. The 360 will Pwn the PS3"... Such a load of fanboy crap. You refuse to give any credit to any PS3 game, or any credit at all to the PS3 in general.
Get a life and stop posting in PS3 th...
You're looking at this through a gamer's eyes only. To access these features you would not have to go through Sony, unless it was a Sony Blu-ray disc movie. You would download the content from whomever distributed the movie. This is not regular extra content, this is content made available after the release, or content that you need access to the internet for. And by the way, if you can afford a PS3 or a Blu-ray player then you should be able to afford a broadband connection. If you don'...
How does MS get money from PS3 because of the Blu Ray drive? They were not a developer of the Blu-Ray specs, are not a supporter of it at this time, and they are not making any of the Blu-Ray drives. You're misinformed thinking that HD-DVD has any technical advantage over Blu-Ray. If you want to educate yourself on it, you can go here: http://www.blu-raydisc.com/... or
Yes, the above posters are right, this is for the person that has way too much money.
I don't like RPG's either, but I believe that FF XI was released exclusively to PS2, and then was just ported over to Xbox 360 two years later. I could care less about MMORPG's for the most part, but I'll believe that Square Enix is releasing simultaneously on Xbox 360 and PS3 when they announce it. Just seems a little weird that Square Enix would take their star franchise to a system that is not selling in Japan. I could see further down the line, but simultaneously, I don't know.
You get an amen from this corner.
Just to get the record straight, you believe that it will flop and will be phased out within several years ALA Dreamcast, 3DO, etc?
The cost is something that is to be determined whether gamers will buy it after the initial launch quantities are sold out. Everyone knows that the first 2 million units at launch will sell out. The question is if average gamers will buy a console that costs $500-600, or if Sony will drop the price after a few months. Blu Ray has been picked up by a...
Didn't know you were a part of the psychic network. Please share with us, Grand Master, of your insight regarding a videogame system that you are sure is doomed to failure, yet has not even been released yet.
I definitely respect your opinion. Much more so than most 360 owners on here. So I am happy to have some intelligent dialog going on here. Let's keep that up. :)
About the $50 Live fees.. There is just something in me that balks at paying $50 a year for something that I do now on PC's for free. The difference is that Xbox live integrates it into a user-friendly package that is pleasing to the eye. For me it's not the price, because $50 is cheap when you consider it's over...
I hate to spoil your theory, but Valve has said that the episodes coming out now are considered Half Life 3. I believe they're supposed to be 3 episodes in total. I was a little disappointed that they weren't completely revamping the engine and everything, instead of just adding a few more graphical tweaks. At the same time, at least we didn't have to wait another six years, right? :)
But about your other theory, I think it would be great if everyone was able to play togeth...
Haha, we have a new theMART here! Welcome! Now go put on your pointy hat.
Agreed. I can't wait to play these on Max settings on PS3 and have all the other extras.
To the above poster asking for a Xbox 360 Half Life original title that is exclusive to the console.. dream on. That will not happen. If anything, it would be exclusive to PC as that's where Valve's roots are.
There aren't enough blu-ray diodes because Sony is gobbling all of them up for the PS3. If you can't see that, I don't know what to tell you.
Regarding the Cell processors having low yields. Per the IBM VP that broke this news, 10% yields for Cell processors with 8 working SPE's is not bad, when you take into account that Sony is using the ones with 7 working SPE's. The yields for Sony's Cell processors are between 30-40%, I believe. Which is what they were expecting, so it...
Looks like another company is trying to cash in on the "patent infringement" game. This looks like an extreme longshot. It also doesn't really mean anything because companies get hit with lawsuits every day. Microsoft has hundreds of pending anti-trust suits, etc. You can see the pending legal action against Microsoft on their page: http://www.microsoft.com/pr...
To the above poster ta...
Didn't MS launch with 1 million units worldwide? There will be shortages no matter what, but if Sony is able to double or even triple their 2 million at launch estimates, that is huge. This is where Sony's experience in hardware manufacturing comes into play. I'm not saying that the PS2's were somehow the most sturdy machines ever made, because I know of a lot of complaints that they weren't (mine from launch still works fine). I'm saying that they've been in the electronics hardware indu...
