I AM the author.
This article was simply an opinion piece. I even stated that it's a "fan's fantasy"; nothing more than a simulation. Have you no imagination?
Some voice commentary would've been nice, but that's about the only thing missing. Otherwise, not bad.
You're still missing the point. You can't use someone else's copyrighted material for profit; that's copyright infringement. All Nintendo is doing is getting a fair share of the profits from their OWN products. And even then, they're still giving the bigger amount to the YouTubers anyway.
Depends on what you're interested in. Personally, I'm amped to play Splatoon, Mario Maker, and pCARS on my Wii U, for instance. To each his own.
And when will you stop patrolling various Nintendo articles when you've already made it clear you don't like them? For someone who has the name "SilentNegotiator", you sure love to pick a fight.
I'm entitled to my opinion, regardless of whether you think its "stupid" or not.
Because the Smash games are made by various developers, and not to mention Brawl and 3DS/Wii U feature stages, characters and music that all belong to third-party companies. That's the same reason why they can't put a soundtrack up for sale; too much licencing hoops.
No, it isn't.
Upload a movie to YouTube and throw in some commentary. I'll happily count the minutes it takes to be removed.
This is a LEGAL matter. When you buy a game, you buy a license to PLAY the game, not make money from it. That's pseudo-piracy.
Yes, I agree it could use some touching up, but my main point was really directed to those who think the program should be done away with entirely.
I think this is a good move on their part. I mean, at the end of the day; the content is THEIRS! You buy a game to play it, not to record it, upload it and then get money from it. That's pseudo-piracy, when you really think about it.
Has anyone ever stopped to consider that LPs are making money off of other people's work? Without the game, then there would be no footage to record, thus no video, thus no YouTube channel. The chain all starts with the game being there in the first place.
Some people may view this as being mean, but considering it's Nintendo's IPs, they do have a right to do whatever they want with them (shocker!). I think people should be focused on the fact that they're WIL...
Nintendo FTW. Many studios from their era have come and gone, and those that are still around, only very few are actually hanging on. These guys put out some of the best rated games ever, and will delay a game for YEARS if it needs to be de-bugged. That's dedication right there.
Monolith really pushed the original Wii with XC, and it looks like they're doing the same thing here with the Wii U with XCX. This should be really good!
Great article. It'd be devastating for Nintendo to jump ship and try and make a name for themselves on the other systems, especially when the gaming industry is so volatile right now. I have a feeling this is the last generation before another big shift occurs.
Not sure what that shift might be, but, judging by what's been going on, I'd rather them "stay the course" too.
Just hand over the rights to Sonic to Nintendo. That franchise would fit in N's arsenal perfectly.
True. If they sent it to Nintendo's "compression wizards", then who knows what the true size of this thing might be? Dang!
And also disastrous. Just look at SEGA for instance. After they had to abandon ship - the quality of their titles dropped and they've abandoned a lot of their classic IPs. Most of them (think NiGHTS, Crazy Taxi, etc.) are just stuck in a loop of re-releases.
Nintendo's wealth is too vast for them to even dream of dropping out, at least not for another generation.
The hell? But they reported PROFITS.
Anywho...In other news.
It hasn't even been a "failure". Nintendo has wiped clean all of the losses that occurred with it, and have been making a profit for months. A console doesn't have to pull big numbers to be successful, no product does. If it's making money, it's successful.
I see people trying to spin this as a negative because of the
"weak" numbers.
Hah!
Come on people; get real! If the system is generating a PROFIT - then it's successful. In business, it doesn't matter if your product is selling at a slower rate than your competition, unless you're losing money. If you AREN'T losing money - then you AREN'T "failing". And what are businesses supposed to do? Oh yeah, make a profit!...
The 3 time Sonic deal failed due to the low quality of the games, even if it was on another set of platforms.
Bayonetta 2 is another story. Platinum IPs are known to under perform, so, there's no guarantee it would have sold any better. Bayonetta 1 barely broke 1 million on the PS3 / 360.
Oh well. They made their bed, now they have to sleep in it.
