Pre-Order Babies

Hello again kiddies to another one of my polarizing blogs subject for today's blog is one about pre-orders and the people who take issues with them.

Now A game that has been on my radar for a while now has been Alien Isolation Sega's millionth attempt to revive this dead franchise and tensions are high as the stench of Colonial Marines still linger in the air. Recently they have shown off a trailer for the pre-order incentives to Alien Isolation which are the Crew Expendables and Lone Survivor DLC pack which are recreations of Ridley Scott's classic film Alien.

This as you may have imagined sparked some outrage among the community with several gamers including Jim Sterling a man I highly respect to come out and tell SEGA off for this. Sadly for Mr. Sterling and those gamers I don't agree with their views on this and pre-order incentives as a whole.

Just to clarify I don't think all pre-order incentives are good if you showed me one where a crucial part of the game is taken away and used to make you pre-order than I'm with you that is BS. Or when you got to pre-order at a certain store to get the extra content but overall I don't see pre-order bonuses as a problem or even as a big deal.

Now here me out if there is someone that should be furious over these it's me because I don't have a gamestop or Best Buy or any of those stores where I walk in and hand over $5 to make sure I get the game. If I want a game and the bonuses I got to pay in full and because these reviews come out so late cancelling my orders are not possible.

So for all right I should hate pre-orders but I don't because my situation isn't everyone situation and I also don't see the idea of giving people a bonus or incentive to put money down on a game ahead of time as bad. First off all it's because it's free, you don't have to pay anything extra to get this stuff all you have to do is just put an easily refundable down payment on a game wait until it comes out pay the game off and get the bonus content.

Secondly because usually these bonuses are just so minor and insignificant that they're not worth getting mad over, now considering the AI bonus is actually bonus story material some people have gone out to claim they are withholding content from you and selling a chopped up game.

This however is pure garbage and I'll tell you why. The reason why a lot of people are interested and want this game is not to play as Sigourney Weaver believe it or not but to play a new story in the Alien lore as a newish character in a whole new scenario and that is what you are getting when you purchase it.

You could argue well maybe that part is the opening to the game well I'll say I'm highly doubtful of that because they described it that the DLC starts off with the Alien already matured and having killed the engineer. So it can't be the opener as you don't get any context to how they got it, where it came from or anything.

This piece of content was clearly made as a bonus material for the fans of the franchise, a love letter if you will to the people who grew up watching Alien and as a treat for pre-ordering the game.

I'm sure some of you will feel differently and that I'm being naive and making excuses for a thieving company who are trying to nickle & dime us and to that I say THIS IS NOT EA YOU &*@#$. To simply put it this is just what it is bonus content it's not a core piece of narrative or lore and I know it's the movie this game is trying to follow up on but to that I say exactly what I just said.

It's a recreation of the movie and the game already expects you going in to know the movie existed and that you saw it so that's a mute point and not a valid con against my point. Anyway pre-order bonuses are not bad as long as they are legitimately not taking our crucial parts of the game like EA did with the Protian DLC that was exclusive to the collector's edition.

I will agree however store exclusive pre-orders can suck it, anyway that's the word of The ZombieGamer, hope I opened some eyes or at least opened you to an alt way of thinking. Till next time guys.

I love how this is an apologist blog for pre-orders and they talk about how it was a "love letter" to fans for them to include this as a pre-order incentive.

This blog also tries to pretend that the alternative of just including it as part of the game is not better.

Highly amusing.

Now crawl back inside your hole.

My point of my blog that escaped your hollowed head is that pre-order bonuses are not inherently evil nor can you can you claim the Alien Isolation DLC to be chopped off game because it doesn't actually have any barrings over the game.

Also I never stated anywhere that including it as part of the game is bad, it's always nice to get more stuff that goes for anything but the fact is the developers decided to go and make a bonus content with the original cast to be sold separate and you can't fault them for it.

People are still getting the full Alien Isolation package that SEGA promised them that hasn't changed the only thing that has is now they are offering you extra content for simply guaranteeing a purchase of the game.

Also this is something I didn't mention in my blog but anyone who complains about this should cancel every collector's edition they are getting and complain to that company that they are keeping extra content away from you if you don't buy their collector's edition.

It's the same situation but worse since you are actually expected to pay more for little pieces of content.

There is only one reason why pre-order bonuses exist, is to inflate pre-order numbers, which increases sales. That's it. There is no better reason. In many cases, the publishers of a game withhold any actual gameplay footage and other important details about what the game will be like, and just go straight to taking in pre-orders for something of mystery to the general public. Yes, it is a problem and no apologizing is going to make it any better.

Pre-orders are a problem when you seem to forgive things that you shouldn't forgive. For example, shoddy ports of games, DLC that was already on the disc, etc. If you've been burned before, why would you reward them? It's somewhat of an epidemic in the gaming community that we keep rewarding bad behavior (celebrating exclusive DLC content for a multiplatform title shouldn't be happening, but we keep seeing the "first on X console" thing be cheered every single time).

Usually you can find a free code from a generator with a google search so those incentives are usually aimed at the 13-14 year old gamer that wouldn't know any better. I've done this with dlc for wrestling games (ultimate warrior), Gears of war series dlc, and countless others.

There hasn't been anything exclusive to GameStop or best buy that you can't get on your own accord.

Also it's not"mute" point. It's "moot" point. That just bothered me for some reason.

Sony Patents AI-Generated Podcasts Using PlayStation Character Voices

A new patent registered by Sony suggests the company is exploring the idea of personalized podcasts on PS5, hosted by PlayStation characters.

Okay this is actually really cool too. What is being proposed here is that the AI will generate you a podcast that is focused on the games tht you play or have wihlisted. This means you always get topic relevant to your tastes. Just don't screw it up with a bunch of ads.
