What E3 2013 was all about

As a long time gamer I eagerly looked forward to this years E3 to see what games were gonna show, see what the PS4 looked like, and get some info on the new consoles.

E3 came and went and what resonated with me was how none of the games shown where really stand out games like previous years I tried telling myself no this game or that game stood out.

While yes some really great games were shown no doubt about it I am eager to play the games that were shown it still felt lackluster of an E3 in terms of games. I then realized why.

E3 2013 wasn't about games and wasn't about the consoles, it was about the future of the industry, it was a battle between the Xbox One and the PS4. You might think well yeah they're competitors of course it was a battle, but that under sells what was really happening.

The battle wasn't for why I should buy a PS4 over Xbox One or buy Xbox One over PS4, it was about what is our future as gamers, if Sony went with MS policies was gaming as we know it going to change into a future we might not like? Or would Sony make a stand to have buyers retain their consumer rights?

That was the battle of E3 the battle to see what was going to be the future for gaming was it going to be a more restricted future where consumers have very little rights to this luxury product we paid for or would we see thee companies listen to its fans and put the need of the consumer first?

After everything we know who won, consumers, we won. Sony listened to our voices and gave us the option, they didn't force on a policy that would minimize our rights they instead put our consideration first and showed us that gaming is not heading down a dark road as long as we don't let it.

That was E3 2013 to me at least I don't know about you guys but I want everyone to understand this at the very least, I get it, I get why you might want to still get the Xbox One it has games that might or will interest you.

I get how the restrictions imposed by MS might not bother you because maybe you do have a stable internet connection, maybe you don't sell or lend out games but just know that it doesn't mean you shouldn't have that option.

So when the time comes let MS know that they need to change what they are doing because what they are doing is not good for the industry and is not good to you. Hold off on buying an Xbox One and wait until MS gets their s**t together before giving them your money and let them know the consumer will not take their c**p.

Pardon me, but I'm a little confused. You're praising Sony for giving gamers choices and for listening to our pleas and then you start to criticise Microsoft for things that are no longer relevant.

While Sony is certainly offering a better service, Microsoft did announce that there is no fee of any kind to play or trade/sell used games. Sony announced that they're following in Microsoft's footsteps and allowing developers and publishers to charge a fee if they desire.

You start off your blog by illustrating that E3 was more of a console war than a showcase of what's coming and then switch it up by saying Sony turned it to us as gamers and giving us "control" over the gaming industry. That's nonsensical. The only control we have is what console to purchase if not both or neither.

You falsely implied that this blog was based around what E3 was really about and then you turn it on a dime to be a Sony fanboy blog and boycotting Microsoft's product.

ZombieGamerMan4706d ago

I falsified nothing and my last segment is not a fanboy rant if you don't want a PS4 go right ahead and build a gaming PC or WiiU but don't act like MS didn't do anything wrong they did.

They revealed the system would prevent used games sales its a fact only thing that has changed is MS now dictates where you can go and sell your games. How is that any better we go from no you can't do that to no you can only do it at places we tell you and what about there always online policy.

MS gets flank and should be boycotted because they are forcing you to have your system be connected and check in every 24 hours while completely disregarding regions that may have poor to no internet connection.

Also no Sony is not following MS in the used games policy because the PS4 does not force the policy that used games can't be traded or sold but the Xbox One was built to do that. Sony gives the option to publishers MS forces it.

What I said at the end is very true because that WAS E3 ever since rumors of PS4 blocking used games, ever since the XOne reveal where MS said they will block used games, this E3 was about seeing if both companies would support this movement or if Sony was gonna support consumer rights. And that shows we do have a say in the industry because it shows that Sony cares for what the consumer wants.

Also I didn't tell me to never buy an Xbox One but that they should wait until MS drops this used games restriction garbage along with there semi always on feature because they are not good for gaming.

Now if to you it feels like a fanboy rant its because you may be a fanboy yourself to not see why MS deserves all the backlash and why consumers NEED to show them that they will not stand for the injustice by holding off on X1.

I never said anything positive (nor negative for that matter) about Microsoft, so your implication that I'm pretending they did no foul is premature.

Microsoft has certainly shot themselves in the proverbial foot many times in the past weeks, sure, but in response to your argument: Microsoft may or may not be "dictating" where you can go and sell your games. GameStop is definitely on that list which is where a majority of people sell their games and I would be surprised if Amazon didn't make it to the list.

As for their online policy, yes it certainly does suck for those in regions with poor or no Internet connections, but you can't be angry about something that hasn't had a demonstrative chance. Microsoft might implement a feature that allows you to authenticate the game you're playing through means other than a daily console check.

Actually, Sony IS following in Microsoft's footsteps, just not completely. Microsoft isn't forcing publishers to charge fees for used games and if that is what you think they're doing, I strongly recommend doing research before continuing dialogue. Sony (as of now) is not dictating where you can sell or trade your games - that is subject to change at any time.

E3 was basically a pissing match between Sony and Microsoft and while (as I said) Sony did steal the show and understandably so, the immature snide remarks and direct/indirect attacks makes me want to refrain from purchasing EITHER console.

I never said Microsoft didn't deserve the backlash they're getting - they certainly do - so implying that I'm a fanboy based on zero information or insight into my opinions is childish and once again premature. I'm loyal to neither Microsoft, Sony nor Nintendo. I'm loyal to whichever company produces a product that suits me, as an individual gamer, best.

If the PlayStation 4 suits me best, I'll purchase it. If the Xbox One suits me best, despite all of this controversy and nonsense, I'll purchase it. What is an injustice or a travesty or an inconvenience or what have you to one person might roll off the shoulders of another.

@ Valenka

I did do my research and you are the one mistaken the Xbox One does force that restriction, once that game is registered to your account you have full access to it.

Should you lend it out they can only play for an hour now they stated publishers can optionally allow a one time game transfer to a person your friend list and can not be transferred more than once. That is not Sony's policy, they're policy is the same as the one on PS3 in that they do not force a form of DRM but leave it open to a publisher who may want to do an online pass sort of affair.

Xbox One it is mandatory hence all the uproar also yes I can be mad at their policy because it means if my connection is bad or something happens where I have I can't meet its 24 hour check in I'd be screwed. There is no if or buts about this one.

MS is dictating where you can sell & buy used games from its not a maybe case either they have made that point very clear that they will chose who can and who can not regardless if the ones they pick are the big retail companies such things should not exist to begin with.

I called you out for fanboyism because of your own claims at my fanboyism simple because I am telling the truth in regards to X1 and how their policies are not helping gamers & consumers and that people should hold off on the system until these policies are taken down by MS.

How is that being a fanboy when I merely want people to show MS that they need to remove these policies by holding off on the system because there is no other way to convince them.

Valenka4706d ago

I don't know where you're doing your research, but E3 and various sources confirmed otherwise, contradicting your statements. For the last time, Microsoft is not forcing used game fees; they are giving publishers the option, just like Sony is doing.

As for trading in or selling your games, what's the problem? As I said, a majority of people use GameStop and GameStop will be number one on that list of approved retailers. You feel companies like GameStop shouldn't exist? Then don't buy games you'll want to trade in.

Instead of complaining left and right (not you, but people in general) just don't buy the Xbox One and buy the PlayStation 4 instead. Microsoft doesn't really care and they've made that clear by saying if you don't have Internet, buy an Xbox 360.

"I called you out for fanboyism because of your own claims at my fanboyism." Wow. Are you twelve?

The point I was trying to make is that your "truth" is your attempt at being an activist and trying to get people to boycott the Xbox One. Let people do what they want. If Sony is doing what you think they should do, buy the PS4 and let others buy the Xbox One if they want to. It doesn't and shouldn't affect how you sleep at night.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing3d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster923d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit3d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing3d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster923d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
