Top 10 Worst Additions In Call of Duty

10. Personal Jammers and sensors - As if spy planes being called in every 30 seconds and counter spy planes weren't enough, they decided to give you your personal sensor or radar jammer that have no time limit on them. The worst thing about these things is that they cover an area small enough to force you to camp, but big enough to take control of that area.

9. Game-ending nuke - The idea of a nuke ending a game by getting 25 kills in a row is cool..if it was in a lobby with friends and you guys were screwing around. But to put it in a game where anyone can use it any game mode has got to be up there as one of the worst thought-out ideas in gaming history.

8. Second Chance - Second chance in my opinion is not something that really gives a player a great advantage because it is hard to get a kill while laying on the ground with a pistol. The reason second chance is bad because it disrupts the flow of gameplay. You shoot down an enemy and expect to move on quick, that is the pleasing part. If that guy you mowed down is in second chance you have to stop, drop, turn or whatever and finish him off, it ruins that quick high you got from thinking you killed him in the first place. It's rage inducing if he actually killed you.

7. Commando - Where to begin with this one. How about players gliding through bullets to knife you from 10 feet away? The combination of lightweight, marathon and commando is arguably the most powerful class in Call of Duty history simply for the fact the other two perks enhance commando that much more. Guns do not stand a chance.

6. Flinch when being shot - Modern warfare 2 was the first to implement this into Call of Duty. And nothing in my opinion has ruined gunfights more than flinching while being shot.

When you have a game with so much lag like Call of Duty has, flinching while being shot is just unfair. The person to get his shot on target first wins the gunfight 95% of the time because when you get shot first your health is lower than the enemy, your screen is bloody, and your camera is shaking everywhere, lag is just the kicker. You have zero chance. The way it was before with no flinch at least gave the more skilled gunner a chance while being shot, and it made gunfights more rewarding because a lot of times you would win gunfights when being shot first, which lets you know you are the superior gunner.

5. Martyrdom - People forget how bad Martyrdom was in Call of Duty 4 where it originated. It was in a perk tier with very little competition, so almost everyone used it. As if frag X3 wasn't bad enough, you had to adapt to dead enemies pooping out live grenades as well.

4. Deathstreaks - Nothing tells you more that you suck then when earning a deathstreak. To top it off, most of the time these deathstreaks don't help, and they surely won't turn a bad score into a good one, make a bad player good or help a losing team get back into the game. All deathstreaks ever did was annoy the hell out of people for just being in the game.

3. Personally controlled killstreaks - Personally controlled killstreaks first and foremost take players out of the game which adds to making games slower because it's at least one less player on the battlefield. They are all overpowered and do more work than guns do sometimes for players in a match, which defeats the purpose of a shooter game.

The real overpowered ones make enemy players camp when your flying around your AC-130 or Chopper gunner. Nothing interrupts and makes games more slow and unbalanced than when players are taken away from the game for a period of time to get kills with air support or machines. And people wonder why Call of Duty gets more campier. This is the root of that problem.

2. Support package - I guess custom killstreaks weren't enough because now you don't even need killstreaks, just get kills and you earn rewards, even if you're a detriment to your team. I guess they forgot killstreak rewards were put in to reward players getting more kills than deaths, which always helps the team, even in objective modes. MW3 is unplayable because of the strike package alone. Everyone spams the stealth bomber (14 total kills) and EMP (18 total kills) rewards that took a lot of kills in a row in MW2 to earn.

1. Call of Duty Elite - Activision may make more money NOW from Elite because it makes players pay for all of the DLC up front, but in the long run I see it hurting the franchise, and possibly becoming the root to the reason why Call of Duty fans jump ship in a heartbeat once a legit competitor comes along (can you say Respawn Entertainment?). You can already see the hatred geared towards Call of Duty since the announcement of Elite about a year ago. It's like the fans are just waiting to leave, but unfortunately for them they are stuck..for now.

The reason why Elite is so bad (besides the fact of corporation greed) is because we never see the annual 3 or 4 DLC releases that had the anticipation like games in themselves. That is what has kept Call of Duty maintain it's online numbers throughout the year for so many years. Everyone looked forward to the "big" DLC release every 3 or so months.

With Elite, those packages are now broken down into bits and handed out sporadically by month, not nearly the same amount of excitement, especially now with a segregated community of half the players not owing an Elite subscription. When Elite drops it's maps, it's like no one even cares or knows anymore, it's sad.

Elite is just a discombobulated mess and it was not called for because CoD sells like hot cakes and DLC was already flying out the door. No wonder MW3's online numbers are the lowest since World at War despite it being the best selling CoD game through it's first few months.

Just to correct you, the Strike package doesn't have EMP or Stealth in it, that's support.

And honestly, how is Elite a bad addition? Elite is simply a stat tracking and community add on. Nothing bad about it. I know you say that Elite is all about getting the money up front for DLC... No, that's not what it's all about. And since when was SAVING people money a bad thing? It takes away from the excitement of big DLC releases? How about it adds the excitement of MORE DLC releases?

I'll give you 4,5,7,8, and 9. But 6 is not right, 95% of the time the person who hits first wins? Yeah, that's not right at all is it? Death streaks are the worst thing ever added to CoD, imo.

If Elite adds more excitement than people are just not smart because the way DLC was before is you got more maps earlier and more at once, which to me and most people is more exciting.

Just because you get new maps every month shouldn't mean more excitement. That is Activisions way of marketing it, but don't let it fool you. You are getting the same amount of stuff in PARTS at LATER times.

dotwithshoes5044d ago

So basically, you're saying waiting builds excitement? And getting the same thing, in smaller doses, for a cheaper price.. is bad. Let me restate that getting the SAME thing, for cheaper is bad?

coolbeans5044d ago (Edited 5044d ago )

I'm honestly not sure how this is a complaint. Elite members who subscribe get the maps a few months early while non-sub members just wait until they add up into a 6-pack collection. There's really no reason to complain about a voluntary stat-tracking service (with most of the features free anyway) that doesn't coerce you into purchasing the yearly subscription.

An interesting list. Heres my view on it

10 - Nothing wrong with jammers and sensors to be honest, barely anybody uses them. Sensors can be cancelled out by perks and jammers make a loud radio static sound so its not hard to find them.
9 -It sucks to get blown up by one but its not that big a deal. In about two weeks of MW2 playtime I saw about 20..not exactly game ruining.
8-Completely agree, a dumb idea that needs to be taken away for good.
7-Again, a terrible perk that should never have been made.
6- Never had a problem with flinching, and i have won many gunfights despite the person shooting at me first. Plus in black ops there was a pro perk that reduced it.
5-Another terrible perk that they keep adding despite everyones hate for it...
4-Deathreaks are a cool idea, but need to be less "screw you" to the people who killed them. For example in MW3, a boost of speed is fine...a guy dying with C4 in his hand is not...
3-The only thing that was a tad overpowered was the chopper in MW2. Apart from that its not so bad. Choppers in black ops were incredible easy to take down and AC-130s you could just hide inside for a bit...
2- Not much to say on that, I kind of agree. The support should maybe be more UAV and Body armour stuff.
1- Semi-agree. Buying all the DLC when you know you're going to buy it is fine. But having to pay for the stats that Black ops seemed to give me for free?! isnt!

dotwithshoes5044d ago

Elite stat tracking is 100% free. So yeah, Black Ops gave it to you free, so does MW3.

EmperorDalek5043d ago

What's with the disagrees? The free version of Elite does give free stat-tracking.

FinaLXiii5045d ago (Edited 5045d ago )

Call of Duty Elite is quite silly i think it would be wise to put the DLC avaiable right away so that people can get interested on getting it.

MW3 DLC is hardly anything special.

TopDudeMan5044d ago

How is elite bad? It's an extra. You don't have to get it. You can be against it all you want, but you're moaning and complaining over something that you don't need to have.
That's like saying sugar is bad even though you can drink your tea without it.

The reason MW3 has low online figures is because their spawn system is (to put it simply) flawed. That is nothing to do with elite. It's because they haven't taken the time to fix glaring exploits like spawn trapping which have been plaguing the franchise since it got popular.

If you ask me, they really have to get their finger out and decide how they're going to make the game fair. Now, I'm not saying making the game fair will be a popular decision. A lot of people rely on stupid noob perks like second chance to get kills. But for the game to get better, it has to be more balanced such that you can tactically play the game a number of ways and still have fun and not want to throw your controller because you've just been killed 4 times in a row within 1 second of spawning by a chopper gunner that a guy got because he was camping in a corner.

-rant end.

Vettur5043d ago

Elite is without doubt plain stupid. I really hate the idea that some people can buy advantages.

The people that buy Elite is often the more experienced players. Therefore it is the experienced players that gets the advantages of Elite, making the game more unbalanced and unfair.

TopDudeMan5043d ago

It's not an unfair advantage, though. All they get is new maps and the odd prestige token here and there.

ThatHappyGamer5044d ago

Second chance is the perk that pisses me off to extreme levels.
