Try something new... Trust me.

On the 26 December 2009 my PS3 broke, it had the dreaded YLOD (Yellow light of death). For those of you that don't know, YLOD is where the solder on the motherboard melts from the heat of the console, which when turned off then cools down causing the solder to crack causing the connection to be faulty in most of the cases.

Basically It sat there for about 2 months collecting dust. I mean What could I do, I didn't have the £100 To send it off to get repaired, let alone get a new one. So... it stayed there until march of 2010. Until I remembered seeing something on the net, A DIY for repairing the fault. At first I was hesitant to try. But then I thought to myself "What have I got to lose?"

To cut a long story short, it worked. I started on the Friday and by the Sunday had it up and running. It works with no issues or problems to this day (Go me!!!) Part one of the guide is at the bottom of the page.

Well to get to the point I'm trying to make. A friend sent me a message yesterday asking if I could have a look at his since it had the same problem as I had with mine. I said sure thing. The thing is, he isn't the first person to ask me if i could have ago at fixing they'er PS3. I've had three people before him in the last six months ask if I could fix there PS3.

What I'm getting at is, basically, the sense of accomplishment I got from being asked by people to help them out. Not because it made me fell like I knew more than them, but the fact I could help them out in the first place. If you're wondering why I'm making a fuss about this, it's because I'm dyslexic. I've never felt like I excelled at anything, not even my current job or other tasks I've done and been praised for.

The reason I'm writing this is if only one person (if any) see this and feel the same way. Basically, try something you never wanted to, or something new. You never know, you might enjoy it.

Thanks for visiting and don't for get to comment.

An encouraging message with an epic pic ='s instant approval in my book. Unless they're friends, you should try charging a bit on the side for your service imo. Good read :D

Don't worry, I am charging a small fee. haha. But the felling I get beats the money any day.

I wonder why Sony charges $150 to fix it. I remember a feature from the UK where guys would fix the YLOD for a lot less.

Regardless, congrats on the work, I would be too afraid and too impatient to do something like that, but if my PS3 YLOD I guess I will consider this

"I remember a feature from the UK where guys would fix the YLOD for a lot less"

All they did was throw it in an oven to unprofessionally resolder the components. Sony actually replaces parts/opens up the system and fixes it/etc.

On topic, nice article.

Just got my first YLOD on my 3 1/2 year old PS3 in my living room. I'm going to fix it, but for right now I'm just using the one from my upstairs TV set and didn't mind too much wiping the data by swapping out HDDs.

Ow and here's the link to the video to any one that may be curious.

One thing, I would never touch my ps3 like that, do you know all the finger gloss stain that is left behind.. I hate it..lol

I like my ps3 super clean, when I play my ps3 I have mini fan beside it which keeps it cool & blows away the hot air. That also helps it to be super quiet when it's being played for long.

Christopher5686d ago

How do you position the mini fan for best results?

The fact that Microsoft paid me £10,000 last week has nothing to do with this.

My 60GB ps3 broke almost a month and fixed it about a week later and then a following week later broke again and just today i fixed it again,
I hope it keeps on working because i really hate having to take it apart.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing34d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9234d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit34d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing34d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9234d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
