Why Kinect will sell.

Good day everyone!

As we all know, kinect is coming out on the 4th of November, and as that day approaches, kinect's popularity increases everyday!

That my friends, is one of the reasons kinect will sell.

Shall we begin?

1. Controller free gaming -

I know that the hardcore won't abandon the buttons, neither will I, but this offers a new experience without buttons. The Wii was a smash hit because of it "motion control gameplay". It was fun and unique, even if the system was a wreck itself. Now I bet many people want a new experience, and If they see "controller free gaming", their going to go for it. I believe the reason move wasn't such a system seller was because many people have already tried something like it. Kinect offers something new and fresh!

In the end, having fun is all what really matters to them!

2. Microsoft's AD campaign -

If you watch TV, I bet you that you saw one kinect ad, at least one. If haven't, then they have been showing it to the right people. There are ads everywhere! Last night at a kmart there were at least 7 Kinect ads covering the windows. Also, near a 7-eleven, I saw a kinect ad. I am willing to bet that they have tons around here that I haven't seen.

3. Innovative games -

Many of kinect's launch titles aren't shovelware, Like kinectimals and dance central. Like my first reason, people want a new experience, and dance central is one of the experiences that will fill peoples needs. Heck, it may becomes one of the few games MTV publishes that sells well. Also, their could be innovation among 3rd parties for the first time!

These are 3 of the many reasons why kinect will sell, feel free to add more!

By the way, stuna1, don't worry, I'm still naming my tiger after you.

(Keep it clean!)

Wii sold a LOT. but no one cares cause most of the resources are being put into casual games.

so lets say Kinect will sell... then wut?? publishers know casual market is bigger than hardcore. U already see xbox lacking exclusives next year because all the resources are being put into Kinect.

then more publishers are going to invest in casual gaming.

"so lets say Kinect will sell... then wut?"

well, dude, then developers will leverage the installed base to develop more fun titles which will attract more gamers which will sell more units, which will attract more developers.. etc etc.

The 360 is not the wii.
Hardcore games are certainly possible on the 360.
It just needs developers to do it, and the first step to getting developers on board with hardcore kinect titles is to sell lots of kinect install base
Lots and lots.
After that, developers will line up for a piece of the pie.

@wat634: totally agree with your first statement.
In the end, having fun is what really matters to ALL gamers.
The problem is, the idea of fun has become confused thanks to the abundance of fragile fanboy egos on n4g.

#2 should also be your #1 and your #3. Seriously, it's the only reason it will sell so well. The other reasons just don't matter.

maybe if sony had tried advertising, move wouldn't be a failure.

I don't consider Move to be a failure or a hit, but I do completely agree and if you look at my posting history I mention that Sony is falling behind on this. I've mentioned the lack of their Coca Cola and Subway partnership being active yet and that they cut supply right out of the gate in the U.S.

One of my recent posts was this [Re: Microsoft Pepsi deal]:

I wonder if this is just being shown on the cans or if there are going to be prizes for specially marked cans/boxes/etc.?

Also, where the heck is Sony with the Coca-Cola advertising/contest deal? I would have started that already to beat out Kinect rather than it looking like they will be hitting the streets at the same time.

Sony, you're going to get wiped all over the floor with this sort of advertising management. I know it's hard dealing with a company that literally has money laying all over the place to use for marketing, but that doesn't mean you don't try your hardest anyway.

Sony should never have made Move. Instantly, the first thing you think of is "Wiimote ripoff." First impressions count. It doesn't matter that it's not quite a wiimote ripoff, the concept is poor from a marketing point of view.

Kinect may be an EyeToy ripoff, but it's not the first thing that comes to mind. "Controller-free gaming" is what first comes to mind. "Wow that sounds cool" is what first comes to mind. Doesn't matter that it's the usual un-fun casual crap that we've seen for years.

Ultimately though, both will fail, for a simple reason. They are taking a slice out of a small market. The Wii has the entire population of the globe with a TV as its market. Kinect and Move have the market of those who own a 360 or PS3 - this is a lot, lot smaller. To be successful as a competitor to the Wii it needs to be a stand-alone device. Peripherals only ever have a small number of 3rd party titles and a handful of proprietary games. Unless they are made standard, support drops off quickly. If they are made standard, you alienate 90% of your userbase which may be OK with a new, cheap controller but it's not OK with an expensive camera peripheral.

Something fishy going on here...

Bill Gates as the avatar, Giant MS logo on the back, "Kinect will bring innovation" as your title...

hrrrrmmmm...

What does it mean?!

sony had the move technolgy way well before nintendo even had it because it was going to be used for ps2 next up kinect is a copy cat of the eyetoy which has been and done like 8 years ago

Review: Romeo Is a Dead Man (PS5) - Absurd, Entertaining, and Tedious All at Once - PS

Just as enjoyable as it is frustrating, Romeo Is a Dead Man is an incredibly uneven experience. You’ll love it one minute and hate it the next. Persevere with its more annoying elements, and you’ll discover a unique and entertaining hack and slasher at the end of it all. It just takes a lot of effort and restraint to get there.

Romeo Is A Dead Man Review (PS5) – Romeo Is a Great Man - PSU

PSU: "Romeo Is a Dead Man is yet another belter from a director who marches to the beat of his own drum. It's unapologetically weird, well-conceived and just downright fun to play, and that's all I could really ask for. Every small detail forms a tapestry that can't really be described, only experienced with your own eyes. Where every design idiosyncracy might not land, it doesn't apologise for that. Why should it?"
