Suggestions For N4G

My first suggestion for news submissions would be to make it mandatory for contributors to approve or disapprove every single story.  Yea, I know it sounds like a lot but things would actually go more smoothly in my opinion. A lot of stories don't reach N4G because its not even bothered with. The bulk of of the stories are mainly controversial. Which has its ups and downs. It would also help to make it mandatory to provide a html for the act of disapproving duplicate stories. Other nice additions to the site would be , when logged in you can be prompted when you have received a PM. Or telling users how many new messages are in their inbox. If anybody would like to chip in feel free to...........And one last thing good job N4G staff and contributors! And I hope it only gets even better.

I couldn't have said it better myself mate! Although rather than forcing contributors to approve EVERY story there should instead be a daily minimum requirement otherwise you start losing points.

Also, to force less popular stories to be approved/reported quicker, you shouldn't be able to choose which stories to approve. Instead you should be given a random list of stories that you're allowed to approve or report on. And how about keeping the contributor's name anonymous until the story's approved so that there's no immediate bias when you're looking at it?

The duplicate stories HTML link idea is also a must have feature. It's so annoying not being able to find a story that you've apparently duplicated, let's see the evidence!

It shouldn't be too hard to have the number of unread messages in your inbox at the top of the page where your user name is, and how about having your gamerscore there as well?

Finally, why aren't Blogs shown in the same way as articles, i.e. a Title and Description. Why does the ENTIRE article have to be shown when you go to the Blogs section?! How does N4G even know how popular a particular blog article is if you can read it without even having to click on it?! And why can't popular blogs appear on the front page?

I'd love to know whether the N4G staff are actually reading this, cos they should. I know the site still has the "Beta" word at the top so hopefully they're gonna unleash a whole new set of features soon!

Cheers.

We are reading more than people think :) and we are constantly taking notes. It may not seem like we are doing anything to solve these problems but we are working on it everyday. Btw, both of you posted some good ideas that I think we can use.

Wow, it's like Big Brother, always watching us! Good to see the staff are paying attention, can't wait to see the new features.

Keep up the good work! :)

While I won't say all the ideas you have are pressing NEEDS, I would like to see PM's being able to be managed better. One additional thing is perhaps better integration between the forum and main site profiles.

"A lot of stories don't reach N4G because its not even bothered with" situation is slowly changing in my opinion. There are too many lame, duplicate, and old stories nowadays on N4G (could be the result of the May contest,I think). Also, making it mandatory for contributors to approve or disapprove every single story is simply too much to ask. I think contributors should only get points if they summit good material.

Take note, Sony, you're falling behind by a lot.

-Foxtrot6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

I was just going to say this, their biggest and top rated game here is TLOU2 for PC….it’s embarrassing.

Even Ubisoft and EA are ahead

Kind of surprised Nintendo is pretty low aswell, their biggest game is also a rerelease with the Switch 2 version of TotK.

@christopher:” Take note, Sony, you're falling behind by a lot.”
.
Why single out Sony? Microsoft didn’t do any better than the year before 5th same as Sony 9th and they have acquired activision and other mayor titles that have boosted their score massively from a 9th and Sony a 4th the year before the acquisitions.
Sony does need to do better without a doubt and I do hope they do take note but not the note of buying publishers is the way to succeed.

Christopher1m ago

1. Microsoft didn't get worse.
2. Sony got way worse.
3. Because Sony needs the criticism the most considering their publishing output this generation has been propped up by last gen ports and third-party developers for the most part.

But... but... the garbage-mongers always tell us that Square Enix is in trouble! 😂

Christopher5h ago

Square doesn't help that it fear mongers itself with ridiculous 'goals' that they can't reach and then they proclaim failure if they don't reach it. They're quite freaking profitable and people act like they're dying.

SimulationDaily4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

Keep in mind that these "proclamations" are usually third-hand bad translations from somedude who was at the investor conference, posted on Twitter, and picked up by press and youtubers like they were gold, and then when the official translation comes out, they're much softer statements, but at that point, the damage is done.

to be very fair

being number one on these things does not indicate how "well" their games do selling wise.
