Sony Theory Time! PSN Lockdown, what is the TRUTH?

As everyone in the WORLD who owns a PS3 knows by now, for the most part of this week (and likely next week), the PSN service has been completely shut down from access. Naturally, we have to know the truth - if the internet went missing, wouldn't you be just as curious? Now, a lot of fingers are being pointed around, and it isn't fair for me to judge who should accept responsibility - trust me, this ain't one of those murder mystery evenings (or maybe :D).

I've read tonnes upon tonnes of crazy conspiracies up till now, yet even more pile up on this subject. Questions like "Why would someone attack the PSN?", or "Why can't Sony get it back online yet?" Surely there has to be a reason, right? Well line 'em up, here's our row of the most likely suspects that you internet detectives have elected:

Anonymous
Yeah, I know - it's always the most likely culprit, and here's the short version of their... let's say "actively distasteful" history. For starters, they are a widespread group of power-hungry cheapskate petty criminals who suffer from serious Wannabe Badass-ness. They parade around in Guy Fawkes masks while trying to ruin the rep of Sony by sending them pizzas they didn't order, prank calls, minor DDOS attacks - anything a 5 year old would do when starved for attention. They did all this because Sony took away their precious way to cheat decent developers out of their hard work and money by downloading their masterpieces for free. Now they hold a grudge against anything Sony, even boycotting the thing they claim to be "saving" (that went well, remember? :P). Not to mention around a week ago, they told Sony to "prepare for the biggest attack ever". They claim not to have done it, but rogue members is also a possibility in this wild case. Right now, definitely suspect Numero Uno.

Geohot
You remember - that dude who unveiled the PS3 root key like it was his was ego, and then got took to court? As he was about to lose, Sony decided to settle outside of court, which gave him his cheeky backstabbing attitude back - now he's on the prawl to get revenge on Sony for taking the mick outta him. It is entirely possible that his maddened lust for Sony blood, along with the motivation from the Anonymous opposition forced him to gather his personal team of hackers (with the money he had "donated" to him) and use them to attack Sony where it hurts - us, the gamers... The kids in the divorce, if you will.

Geohot/Anonymous supporters
Not too many of these chumps around, but these little runts are pretty motivated to take down the fatcats at Sony however possible - even going to such lengths as to give 100+ bucks to Geohot because he asked nicely, or to be the only ones who turned up at the Anonymous boycott... *snigger. Less likely, but it only takes a small team of pissed off hackers with enough determination to set off a timebomb like this.

Microsoft/Nintendo/Apple/Any Company
Keep with me for a sec, okay? Assume one of these guys was tired of the competition, and saw the lineup for Sony this year? Even Xbox fanboys have to admit, 2011 was looking pretty swanky for Sony. What if someone wanted to ruin the market for Sony at the most critical moment to make them lose their sales? IT IS NO COINCIDENCE THAT THE ATTACK WAS PLANNED FOR NOW. Look at it - PS+ was getting re-signed members, that's a lot of money coming in at once. Portal 2 with Steam came out at that exact time - the tension between Sony and Valve might be hurt because of this faulty launch between them - which could hinder future sales from this extremely successful developer. The inFamous 2 beta came out, but no one could download it. A PS3 exclusive, this could ruin sales - all the signs point to financial gain for other companies as Sony loses. Not to mention Microsoft HAD to comment on the situation, even stating they expected more traffic on xbox from people who own both consoles. They knew it could increase their market at this very specific point in the PS3 lineup!

Sony
The most farfetched theory I've read, but it builds up nicely. So apparently it could be an inside job, according to some journalists, that Sony faked the attack entirely in order to increase tension. Why? Ever since the Anonymous and Geohot threats, Sony were looking for a way to silence them, to turn the public against them. So, why not flick the switch, turn the PSN off for a while, and spread the rumor it was an attack? Everyone would assume it couldn't be anyone else other than the ones threatening them this whole time! The gamers would hate and spite them, which would end the attacks in fear of being caught by the public, and everyone would appreciate Sony more. Eventually, Sony's worst enemies this year will be crushed right before their eyes, and they hold the trophy all the while knowing one swift move gave them their checkmate over the gaming industry. Seems like a movie plot, and so devilishly laid out, it gives the reader goosebumps just thinking of such a cool conspiracy.

Well, that's all our contenders, but what do we know for FACT? The PSN has been down since late Wednesday this week, no signs that it will come back till at least next week, Sony have claimed it was an attack, Geohot has remained silent while Anonymous attempt to dodge the blame, and Microsoft gloats from the financial gain in the corner (let's face it - either way, this is them winning lol). Personally this is too much inspection work for me alone to do, but we cannot ignore the fact that things are not as they seem... So "detectives", who from our lineup do you think is responsible? Only time will tell! Give your say in the comments, thanks for reading!!

everyone knows its Keyser Söze...lol

but to be inline with your point's, It does not really matter who it was really for the end user all that matter's is that it get's back up an stays up. but the truth of the matter is most likely it will still have attacks, why because certain demands were not met an still one hacker is still up for law suit. Graf. that in of itself should pretty much answer your Question. Sony did not out right point the finger but really why would they have to. Remember even their own Anonymous group said it could be a part of their Anonymous group that did this.

that's the thing the member's there are not really member's they can do what ever they want. I my self expect more Attacks. I would say that this is More about making an example out of Sony now more than anything else.

Of course the "Toading" will only get them so far because once If Sony's go's out of this market, they done something but really all they done is move Sony toward another market to concentrate on. The fact that Sony really does not need to make a Game console at this point, an im seeing Sony with it's restructuring moving toward software only market distribution anyway. the Playstation Suite is such a Move.

think about that Playstation Suite is Sony 1st party making games for non Sony only hardware also along with Sony hardware. Never has Sony took playstation 1st party developers while the playstaion platform was 1st party would they have been making games for anything but a playstation.

Sony can already Move the Playstation platform to the other parts of the consumer electronics industry..like the TV industry.

which as you can see they already did it with the PS2

http://www.slashgear.com/so...

Developers will not care what market the device is in as long as they can make money from it..Sony does want the playstations in the living room right?

TheY could indeed sale as an option to your TV OR OTHER TV MAKERS AS AN OPTION to add a playstation platform installed into your TV, instead of just selling in the game console arena.

as a matter of fact already game developers are making games for software enhanced TV's

you heard of onlive right?

well here is also going forward as just one example:

http://gametree.tv/

Google TV
ENHANCED Apple TV
Scoreloop FOR SAMSUNG TV'S
http://www.thezspace.com/ar...

Sony see's this it's just not only about game consoles anymore, So Sony is moving into that space anyway.

the Hackers going to Hack every ones TV now because it may have playstation hardware an software on it?

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing13d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9213d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit13d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing13d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9213d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
