The future of Playstation Plus: Possible New Features??

Rumors have been circulating over the past month: regarding the content and future of Playstation Plus, since most customers are unhappy with the features released so far. I am not one of them though: I am extremely happy with what I've recieved, even if it is only for the first month (by the way, I'm on the UK servers of PS+). Clearly, the content and features right now are obviously not worth the payment cost, as we need to wait monthly for new updates and deals. Not too many people pay attention to the fact before complaining, but Playstation Plus is a constantly-evolving service, and as mentioned by the chief honchos at Sony, new capabilities and bargains will become available as the service goes on. Now, what could this mean for PS+ users?

Let's start with the rumors and the hints, since they are our only leads so far. First we have the "survey" that Sony did in Japan, and asked what features would be cool with PS+. They particularly raised an eyebrow to "saving game saves on online servers as a backup", which isn't too bad. Rumors say that another feature is going to be free movie rentals from the PSN store, one per month - although that seems a little too generous, maybe a few every year would be more realistic. Also, a quote from anonymous hackers tell us that we might get the feature to change our "PSN Nicknames", much like how Japan can do it already... Although it is probably wise not to trust hackers!

Now on to assumptions, and future releases. As of now, no beta trials have been opened for PS+ users, although Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood will get it in September (although it is unclear if it is available to ordinary PSN users as well). Other Betas might include Dead Rising 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Little Big Planet 2, Brink, Killzone 3 or Red Faction: Armageddon, although this is mainly conjecture. Another feature could be DLC exclusive to PS+ users: nothing major, incase it causes too much of an uproar, though, such as ONE extra map in Black Ops, or an extra skin/costume in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - unlikely, though. There could also be cross-game chat, this is the most anticipated and expected addition to PS+.

I should also mention that seeing as Sony is trying VERY hard to promote Playstation Home right now, and getting more people to join, it wouldn't be too surprising for Playstation Plus users to get exclusive items, costumes and actions. Some game demos might also be available to Playstation Plus owners exclusively. I'll say this once: if you don't have Playstation Plus, I advise you should get it, as it seems that it will have a HUGE impact on Sony's coming months.

So, what rumors have you heard? What features/content would you like to see on the Playstation Plus Store?

Like you, I'm very happy with my PS+ purchase so far and I'm also in the UK. I'm going to give Sony a few months to impress me further. IMHO they need to offer something that regular PSN users can't get like, as you mentioned, Home content or exclusive beta access. That would give people a bigger reason to join other than the great discounts.

I know a good few people that would cough up the £40 right now if they announced a PS+ exclusive Starhawk beta :D

While I agree it is early to truly rate PSN+ I must admit that I feel cheated with what I've recieved so far. I'll explain... I already purchased a year of Qore, so that was money wasted because its now free to PSN+ owners. I have just paid twice for something that other users got by paying once. On to the games... In the first month they offered WipeoutHD (US) and LBP (UK) but yet again I already own these titles. More lost value in my mind. Of course I could have played demo for Infamous but again I already owned teh game. In the 1st month the only real benifet I got from PSN+ was a few costumes, themes and some very old games that I would have never bought. as a loyal consumer I feel cheated and used. There should be some type of compensation for individuals who already owned annual subscriptions to Qore and the free games of the month. I would rather see store credit being provided. That way at least the gamer would get to decide what topurchase instead of being handed a bunch of old titles that not sell well.

I don't see how you can feel cheated, Sony was upfront about the content you'd receive and you decided to buy even though you already had them :-/ give it a few months and maybe you'll get something you want to justify your purchase but don't make out like Sony somehow tricked u into buying something you already own.

Oh and in the UK we got LBP and Wipeout for free... Score :)

Edit: I do agree they should refund the qore subs tho.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit2d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing2d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster922d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
