Looking ahead to the next couple of months, I can't help but believe that we may be in midst of the one of the greatest periods in gaming history.
Start October 12 - Uncharted 2 releases for PS3. This game has already received numerous perfect and very high ratings, and could possibly end up being the highest rated game this generation.
October 27 brings three high profile games. Forza 3 for the Xbox 360, Ratchet & Clank for PS3, & Tekken 6, which will be multi-platform. Forza 3 has received a lot of excellent previews, and expectations are very high considering the quality of it's predecessors. Ratchet & Clank is expected to be a solid platformer with wide appeal. Tekken 6 will most certainly continue the series' tradition of solid, arcade-style gameplay with excellent visuals and lots of characters to play and unlock.
November 10 will bring us Modern Warfare 2 for PS3 and Xbox 360. There is not much more to say about this game that hasn't already been said before. The sequel to one of the most popular shooters of all time will, without a doubt, be the best selling game this year (and maybe this generation).
November 17 has 2 more huge releases - Assassin's Creed 2 for Xbox 360 & PS3, and Left 4 Dead 2 for Xbox 360. The first Assassin's Creed was extremely popular and highly rated, and the sequel looks to continue those trends. Left 4 Dead 2 is the sequel to a surprise hit from last year, and if it can deliver enough original content, should be a solid addition to the 360's exclusive lineup.
November will also see the release of New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Wii. Never underestimate the impact of a Mario game, especially considering how popular the DS version was. This will probably be the best Wii game of the year.
Those are just the main titles. There will also be a new WWE game for all platforms, Lego Rock Band for casual fans of the music rhythm genre, and countless niche games. All consoles will be well represented with AAA exclusives and multi-platform games. Now that all three consoles have had price drops and reconfigurations, this holiday season will be one of the best ever for the industry. Despite the recession, there are great games and consoles available in every price range.

WTMG's Heidi Hawes: "PARANORMASIGHT: The Mermaid’s Curse is a wonderful follow-up to the The Seven Mysteries of Honjo. You won’t need to have played the first game to understand this one, but there are a few references to characters and events from that game that will give fans of the first an extra layer of appreciation. The pacing is can be rough, especially during the opening hour or so, but beyond that is a game that has plenty of twists, turns, and thought-provoking themes."

Saber Interactive have traded in its mud, snow, and off-road monstrosities for heavy machinery, asphalt, and the smell of the ocean.

City Hunter is an interesting piece of gaming history and a competent port. It's just a port of a game that isn't very good
???
That's funny, I could have swore I pre-ordered the PC version...
I need to double check the games, but isn't March 2010 supposed to be bigger? Bioshock 2, God of War 3, Splinter Cell: Conviction just off the top of my head.
Brutal Legend, Boarderlands, Dragon Age Origins, A boy and his Blob, and Way of the Samurai 3 should be on the list
Indeed a great year for PS3 owners. Couldn't ask for more. Another GOTY exclusive (LBP last year), another great platformers, and an amazing RPG. PS3 is truly great.
The standard of all new releases is going to be good. Modern Warfare 2 will be a great seller as will Assassins Creed 2. Fans of Left 4 Dead will definetely buy the sequel. Looking to late next year Halo: Reach will be another great seller in the Halo series.
