Why Hironobu Sakaguchi making JRPG for Mobile, not home console.

Hironobu Sakaguchi, Why Mobile ?

HS: [in English] Ah, Kutaragi-san's architecture...seven DSPs and a low-powered CPU. I don't like the PS3's architecture.

[in Japanese] First off, with Sony, programmers want to do well and want to create good software, but Kutaragi-san makes the final call and [designs] the [hardware and software] environment himself. So that's been really challenging.

Sakaguchi may one day find himself competing against his own former franchise.
And with the Wii, the system is not that powerful, and it's not HD. But the fact is that there are not a lot of homes that have HD TVs. So I feel, for example, at my place, the screen I have is not in HD. So when I play the games, both for the Wii and 360, it's hard to tell the difference. But with the Wii, it's relatively cheaper to make. It's less costly. So that's one of the attractive things about the Wii.

Final Fantasy Creator’s New JRPG “Terra Battle” Confirmed For Mobile, Could Come to Consoles; Music by Uematsu

http://www.dualshockers.com...

Square Enix on the other hand nearly bankrupt themselves trying to make a realistic JRPG on PS3 cell architecture, then decided to go for multiplatform & add 2 more sequels (xi-2, lightning returns) to recoup the losses, which they never did. Is there more Realistic JRPG than Final Fantasy XIII series on the PS3? I see None.

But Hironobu Sakaguchi's prefer a much easier approach in game development. Is Hironobu Sakaguchi a lazy developer because he avoids PS3 cell like a plague? Of course not.

He developed Lost Odyssey for Xbox 360 because Microsoft payed for it. Thanks to Unreal Engine 3 it was a graphical marvel on Xbox 360 and look as good as Final Fantasy XIII. And yet...Lost Odyssey Xbox One Remaster anyone? None? Phantom Dust gets a Remaster, where's Lost Odyssey Remaster?

Back to Mobile, simple answer easy to develop. The programming codes are many times more than the Wii and its Cheaper. Popular
ARM architecture which powers highly successful 3DS gaming console is also in popular Mobile such as Iphone, Ipad, Android

Hironobu Sakaguchi next JRPG “Terra Battle” for mobile, very probably likely funded from Hironobu Sakaguchi's own pocket.
“Terra Battle” for Mobile, is Cheap to develop, is Easy to Develop, Low risk, High returns.

last generation JRPG was not dead, they simply moved to Nintendo. Will Greatest JRPG of this generation / moved to Mobile / Stay on Nintendo / gain the courage to be dedicated for the PS4?

PS4 utilizes an easy game development environment computer architecture, x86-64. Reflecting PS4 specification, it has more than enough power to play today's mobile games. Terra Battle be made available on Playstation Network could very well happen.

"it's a Mobile Game, it must be bad" stigma is waning, Mobile game developer is making progress. Modern Mobile Phone hardware uses very similar ARM cpu architecture as 3DS & Vita. Plus Sony Xpreria Z2 spec is very close to PS Vita.

Is it the low-end Graphics, the Sprite, the Low Poly Character Models, the compressed audio that makes a Mobile Game bad? It's the game world that makes JRPG great(regardless low-end Graphics, the Sprite, the Low Poly Character Models, the compressed audio).

I never played Final Fantasy VI, III on Nintendo Entertainment System, but I greatly enjoyed it on Sony Xperia Mobile (never cared about the low-end Graphics, the Sprite, the Low Poly Character Models, the compressed audio, etc).

There are many People are okay with future JRPG looking like the original Final Fantasy VI, but not on mobile, only home console. I still can't comprehend that Logic.

Probable Reason why many people bash Hironobu Sakaguchi for developing a mobile game, is that they want a much Grandiose Vision in new JRPGs(Graphically speaking).

The cost to produce such JRPG still persist. Home console development is getting easier as time passes, so does mobile. There would be time in the future game developer could afford to realize JRPG with much Greater Vision and Hironobu Sakaguchi would be in the forefront. For now, let the guy collect the money, the skill for that vision. Support the developer, Buy 'Terra Battle' and patiently awaits the Greatness.

Closing, My Sony Xperia Z is ready for Hironobu Sakaguchi's next JRPG "Terra Battle".

Terra Battle Characters

Bravely Default available on Nintendo 3DS, a mobile gaming console powered by an ARM cpu architecture, an architecture commonly found in today's Android & IOS mobile. That's one factor why nintendo 3DS is selling so well.

Your blog does nearly nothing to address the point you're trying to make, and you started it off quoting your response to my response to you saying the reason Sakaguchi didn't want to develop for the PS3 was because he didn't like Kutaragi. I provided proof of that to you, but instead of accepting that as the truth you decided to stick to your original point and make a poorly written blog about why Sakaguchi isn't developing on Playstation consoles. Oh wait, sorry, it was supposed to be about why he's making a mobile game... except you spent an awful lot of time with PS3 complaints.

The first 1/3 of the story reflects on the PS3 but the rest certainly doesn't.

What proof, this?

http://www.1up.com/news/hir...

"The machine's architecture is tricky, and I don't like Ken Kutaragi." As for why the Father of Final Fantasy isn't a fan of the Father of the PlayStation, we don't know -- he didn't elaborate. But now that one of those reasons is no longer an issue, perhaps his tune towards the PS3 will change over time."

You two were arguing who was right but low and behold you were both right but it was you who refuses to concede that the other was also right. That sounds like you have issues being wrong about things. He said he didn't like the PS3 architecture AND Ken Kutaragi. Guess what Mr. I Am Always Right? Ken left Sony so tell us again about all those games he made after that on the PS3?

If you weren't so attached to the PS3 and get so damn defensive anytime someone brings up its faults you would be able to actually offer a retort. Instead you continue to be condescending to people like you're better than they are. If you've got nothing good to say maybe you shouldn't say anything. I know it's hard for someone like you but maybe give a try for once.

The PS3 was a damn expensive system to make games for at the time and MS likely helped fund his project on the XBox 360. Either way Hironobu Sakaguchi is still trying to find some success and there is a lot of money to be made in mobile, that's why a lot of big name talents have headed in that direction. Plus like the author of this blog pointed out, that you seem to want to ignore while concentrating your efforts instead on attacking him, making games on mobile is cheaper so a lot less risk is involved.

I would suggest you don't try to comment on interactions you weren't a part of.

I would also suggest you take your bias and.. well...

Anyway, you're commenting from a position of ignorance and fanboyism. My comment had little to nothing to do with "defending" the PS3 at all, but your comment had everything to do with trying to attack (strong word, but unfortunately most applicable) me and my position on baseless grounds and complete ignorance, as though you had nothing better to do than to insert your irrelevant opinion about me and try and cover it as part of the topic discussion.

I'm wholly uninterested in you or anything you have to say about anything at all. Beyond this initial (and final) response to you, I hope you enjoyed my reply to you because it's simply going to be the last here. I have no interest in your pointless attempts at feuding.

"I would suggest you don't try to comment on interactions you weren't a part of."

Not gonna happen my friend if you bring it here and be disruptive. After all your the one who replied first and only to this blog, nothing in the authors written commentary said anything personal about you.

"I would also suggest you take your bias and.. well..."

My bias? Bias of what exactly? You sure like to deflect a lot.

"Anyway, you're commenting from a position of ignorance and fanboyism. "

My fanboyism? That makes no sense at all and is just your way of trying to take the attention away from you who we all know suffers from this syndrome immensely. Now tell me how I am ignorant, you still haven't answered anything I said. Your the one who pointed out the flaw of this topic and I showed his answer to why Hironobu Sakaguchi went mobile.

You sure are spending a lot of talk not saying anything on topic.

"I'm wholly uninterested in you or anything you have to say about anything at all. Beyond this initial (and final) response to you, I hope you enjoyed my reply to you because it's simply going to be the last here. I have no interest in your pointless attempts at feuding."

And here we have it yet again. Another cowardly response to something YOU started. You attacked the author, made no effort to discuss ANYTHING, and how now resorted to ignoring my posts with yet another random response that again doesn't answer anything. Bravo! Your condescending nature sure adds so much to this site you seem to not get enough of. Not only do you see yourself as Mr. Right but also a character who loves to go on the offense and absolutely hates being on the receiving end when someone else does it to you.

If you don't like the blog don't comment in it if you can't be on topic. The author did discuss why he went mobile and added information as to what happened prior with the PS3. That was relevant because it started his frustration with consoles. Which you seem to still think is all to do with Ken Kutaragi, which again you cannot admit also related to the hardware of the PS3. I guess that would mean you weren't right about everything and we can't have that now can we?

"I have no interest in your pointless attempts at feuding."

Haha, do you do stand-up too?

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing2d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster922d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit2d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing2d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster922d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.
