The reason I didn't buy RE5

Most people's excuses for not buying RE5 was because of they felt as if the game did not evolve enough. I however, didn't buy the game because it made me feel uncomfortable. It feels as if i'm committing genocide when I shoot the "manjini" or whatever they call them. So yes as you might have guessed it i'm black. There's no mistaking the tension the imagery in this game causes. Believe me I've tried to overlook it but I can't, its just too strong.  Not to mention later in the game you have to kill manjini who are wearing tribal clothing, and are armed with shields and spears. A certain racist quote comes to mind concerning that spear and I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. You may say I didn't have problems killing whites in the previous resident evils. What distinctive features made them stand out as being white? Were you shooting zombies dressed in overalls, a straw hat, armed with a banjo? You may say the spaniards didn't complain about RE4. Well for 1, im not a spaniard, and for 2 I wouldn't fault them for doing so. The only thing that convinced me the enemy was a spaniard was the language. The manjini on the other hand have the look, attire, and language. The depiction of race wasn't as intricate before this game. Call me a hypocrite but I'm acting out on my conscience.

people will ignore this because we had enough of the racist claims and complaints. It's time to move on to 6 Days in Fallujah.

Oh yea, one more racist was reviewed yet again in the game:

*The new racism was charging gamers for the Versus download content:P
That was pure racism!

Since you are not buying it, you are missing out big time. The co-op is just awesome!
Wesker and Cammy White (you'll know what I mean when you play it) vs Chris and Sheeva was cool but also stupid.
Fighting Matrix Wesker was sick:) especially when you give him the multiple knock out combo punches.

Best part in the game, Chris vs Boulder Rock Lava. That QTE fight was INSANE!!!

Lifendz6216d ago

good stuff. If you wanted to get someone to play a game perhaps you can do so without giving away so many major moments.

Lifendz6219d ago

some of the imagery used is quite provocative. Killing spear throwing Africans? Wow. And the Japanese are not exactly known for being racially sensitive (see Mr. PoPo). I'm sure in time I'll rent it but I don't fault you at all for choosing to pass.

Fighting all those Eastern Europeans. I'm slavic and I just found it distasteful. I swear one of those guys in the rubber boots was my uncle Eli. Couldn't the T-Virus just infect a bunch of Mennonites, then everyone would be happy? I mean, they're never going to know.

I'm kidding, by the way. About being bothered by eastern europeans, not about casting Mennonites as villians.

I don't blame you. Capcom should have been a little more smart and considerate with RE5...

xabmol6216d ago

You are the racist here, Dude.

The game takes place in Africa. There are still tribal villages in Africa. Get over yourself and move on.

Lifendz6216d ago

for being uncomfortable playing as a Caucasian protagonist murdering dozens if not hundreds of indigenous Africans? I wouldn't fault, let alone call someone a racist, for having those feelings. Especially if that person is African or African American.

If RE5 featured a young German soldier killing hundreds of "infected" Jewish people, and even used some scenes touching on some of the horror stories told of the Holocaust, would that make things different?

As I'm sure you're aware, there are certain people and countries that have historically been exploited by other people of different countries. To touch on that in anything is a very dangerous endeavor. If handled responsibly it can result in a very engaging and intellectually stimulating experience. If not, it can open old wounds and maybe even insult some people.

So I don't fault anyone for passing just like I don't fault someone for playing. But to call someone a racist for feeling either way is just flat out wrong.

xabmol6216d ago

The "issue" moot.

The game takes place in a tribal area of Africa with Africans in tribal clothing. How is that racist just because the skin color of the protagonist is white? Sure if they were not ZOMBIES and were just minding there business and Cris just walked in there shooting them for no reason, I would consider this racist. But they are frikin ZOMBIES and they are ATTACKING HIM.

This over sensitized anti-racism is just as bad as racism it self.

How come no one is calling the zombies in COD:W@W racist against Germans? What if Germany made a game about killing American zombies? I bet that would make some people scream "RACISM!"

P.S.

I think Ben Yahtzee sums up how pointless this is in his Zero Punctuation review of 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand. It's also pretty funny.

Racism will never disapear until people stop calling every little thing racist. End of story.

If you can't have a game taking place in Africa featuring black people then I don't know what you can do? Besides I know for a fact that if the game took place in Africa and DIDN'T prominently feature blacks than people would call racism (or discrimination) as well, lose/lose no matter what.

So I guess everyone should just be super sensitive to you feeling and just never do anything against the grain ever again because it just might hurt your feelings.

xino6216d ago

I guess you have not experienced racism in your life. Because if you have this comment: "Racism will never disapear until people stop calling every little thing racist. End of story." You'll be eating it back and sh*t it out of your ass!

thisguywithhair6216d ago

Miss the point much? Someone walks up to u and calls a racist word, call them on it, DUH.

What I am talking about is that no one can even make a little tiny point about anything without it somehow being turned around into a racist or derogatory remark. A game set in Africa calls for black people. A zombie game set in Africa calls for black zombies. If that means that black zombies are going to be shot by a white guy than so be it because no matter what the zombies must be shot and more importantly, IT IS JUST A GAME.

As for the zombies dressed in traditional tribalwear, that is explained in the game, if you had actually looked beyond your nose and cared to investigate the so-called racism of the game.

Racism comes from ignorance, on both sides. On the racist side they just don't know how else to interact with anyone they don't immediately identify with. On the victims side are the ones who are ignorant of the fact that they can stand up for themselves (race riots are a prime example of no one standing up for themselves until the rage just boils over). Also, and this goes for both sides, if you don't like what is going on, just leave. Go somewhere else where you are free of what is bothering you. Trust me, that is almost always the better solution, that way if what is bothering you follows you you then have the right to fight back with whatever means you see fit.

xino6215d ago

Someone walks up to me and calls me a racist word and I should call them back? It shows just how much you've learned in retaliation.
Because that's how violent starts, and that's how racism just breaks loose or even worst. I am not racist, some racist idiots calls me the N word, and you are suggesting I should call him the C word??? That would make me an hypocrite and also racist.

From your logic, I see where this is going from, you might as well support the Rapelay game being made.

thisguywithhair6215d ago

First of all, what is the "c" word? Second of all , that is a pretty big jump from not seeing anything racist in RE5 to condoning RAPEPLAY. You obviously have very strong feelings about making sure that you can come out on top of this little discussion and I have come to realize that there is no way to get you to see reason. You are bringing up points that have nothing to do with what I originally said in order for you to appear right.

WiZmans World Re;Try review - ChristCenteredGamer

CCG writes - "WiZmans World Re;Try has some really interesting things going for it, and some cool mechanics and visuals that few other JRPGs do. It is clear some real care and effort went into this game. However, between the sheer amount of inevitable, unavoidable grinding; the lack of depth to most of the combat; the just-okay music and sound effects; and the moral issues that really make me question how this game got away with an E10+ rating, it's difficult for me to recommend. This is definitely a "play with a podcast or Netflix binge-session on in the background" type of game, even if you are in love with the things that make this one stand out. If that's your cup of tea, then WiZman's World Re;Try will provide 35+ hours of it for a relatively reasonable cost."
