"Pwar of teh Clowd"- cutting through the smoke and mirrors, to expose the man behind the curtain.

Ever since the reveal of Xbox One, on May 21st, they have been touting the "Power of the Cloud". Although they never fully explained, what this Powerful Cloud can do. They did allude to Magical powers. Making the xone 3x, 5x, even 10x,. more powerful ,. Or comparing it to the Incredible Hulk.. All of this is Incredibly Absurd, and ridiculous.

Insomniac explains the cloud for Sunset Overdrive, this way -"Adding or changing weapons based on what players tell us is an opportunity we haven't really had during the current generation. Because if you want to put out regular updates, you have to jump through a lot of hoops. So our intent is not to just to offer new weapons, but new gameplay features that change up the environment." So , server side updates are nothing new. DICE did it with Back to Karkand, switching flag points in Conquest,. It's also how every shooter balances guns,.. It's just more streamlined now.

This is what Respawn says about the cloud -"When Respawn couldn't afford the cash or manpower to acquire the "hundreds of thousands of servers" necessary to put players in dedicated servers, "The Xbox group came back to us with a way for us to run all of these Titanfall dedicated servers" in the form of the cloud." -Again , Dedicated servers, Nothing Magical about it.

Finally Mark Cerny says this about the cloud -"It’s possible to do computing in the Cloud, PlayStation 4 can do computing in the Cloud. We do something today: Matchmaking is done in the Cloud and it works very well. If we think about things that don’t work well… Trying to boost the quality of the graphics, that won’t work well in the Cloud."

So the "Pwar of teh Clowd" is not some mythical beast, that will turn the xbox into the Incredible Hulk, Like Astro.Turfers, and fanboys would like you to believe,.. It's just a Buzz word ,. Kind of like having a sports car to make up for a small package,.. Sony has a sports car too,. Only they aren't feeling insecure, by feeling the need to drive it all over town. They'll bring it out when ready.

Power of the Cloud = Power of teh CELL

And I'll be mocking anyone who pins their hopes on Cloud, just like I mocked people who thought Cell was some all-powerful do-anything processor.

PopRocks3594605d ago

Am I the only one who hears phrases like that and just instantly thinks of "blast processing?"

It's all hype and nothing more in the end.

nukeitall4604d ago

Is that why super complex computations are done in the cloud, and super computers are becoming less and less relevant?

The fact of the matter is, nobody can dispute the immense processing power available in the cloud and if you claim the Xbox One can't harness it you are pretty ignorant!

Especially if you think Gakai can stream games over the internet, yet somehow MS can't power the Xbox One with the cloud?

Distributed computing in the cloud is very real, and used throughout the industry. That is how, CGI movies are rendered!

sAVAge_bEaST4604d ago (Edited 4604d ago )

No dispute, such as the Massive cloud system the NSA is building in Utah (opening this fall).. Will be able to break/unlock any Encryption, ever made. Yotta bytes of Info will be stored,. a true Beast of a system, (not the good kind).

The cloud can do crazy computes,. esp. when Piped In., Piping out, is where the problem lies,. (as there is no standard speed -to pipe this power back.)

The main Point is,.. that it is way to early for M$ to be pushing the cloud this early, and this Heavily,. for the current use of - MatchMaking, Dedicated Servers,. Server Updates,- full potential won't be Realized for 2-3 years and beyond. (and It's not a microsoft exclusive tech., seems more like a cross promotion of Azure)

Qrphe4604d ago

Super computers are becoming irrelevant because of the cloud? What do you think powers cloud services? The sky?

nukeitall4604d ago (Edited 4604d ago )

@sAVAge_bEaST:

The pipe in and out is the same! The problem is the way the internet was built for robustness, so any internet traffic can take multiple paths between two computers.

Solution is what Akamai does with content acceleration and in the case of massive cloud computation, it is to spread the servers out like Azure is doing.

MS is the only one console manufacturer have the tech infrastructure for this!

@Qrphe:

Cloud service is not equal to super computer. They draw similarities, but the cloud is far preferred, especially the publicly available one like Amazon and Microsoft Azure.

Some of the biggest in the world!

Building super computers now a days is getting old and phased out like mainframes (they are being maintained, but new systems avoid them like the plague).

TwistingWords4605d ago

You seem to know an awful lot about cloud processing.

Care to explain to me in depth about why their potential load balancing algorithm couldn't work?

Could you please explain to me the dichotomy method in relation to load balancing and how it could possibly achieve results, or could not in your case?

Many thanks.

sAVAge_bEaST4605d ago (Edited 4605d ago )

You mean for AI bots, Weather, time of day, back ground explosions, etc. etc..
I could, but I think Microsoft could do a better job,.. why haven't they?, and why have their developers, only talked about what I have stated above.?

maniacmayhem4605d ago

Why would they explain all this technical issues to the consumer? You think Joe Average on the street would know or even care. PR/marketing makes tech speak as simple and short as possible to make anything and everything appear appealing.

the proof will be in the future games and then we will see if this cloud was more fog just like the Cell.

dedicatedtogamers4605d ago (Edited 4605d ago )

Isn't the burden of proof on Microsoft? So far, they've given us nothing except vague references to what Azure MIGHT be used for, in addition to cutting out some of the features that Azure would've used (for instance, the "play your library anywhere, right from the cloud" feature).

And the few details we do have (like the interview with Respawn, as the OP quoted) say that the Cloud is basically dedicated servers, which is actually a really, really good feature (most XBox 360 games were p2p) but it would be naive to think that Azure will be able to improve graphics or do much of anything, really.

EXVirtual4605d ago

Nice blog. To me, teh power of teh cloud is just MS' way of damage controlling the Xbox One's specs because it's weaker than the PS4.

TheRealHeisenberg4605d ago

SMH. Yet another useless blog. Anyway, here is your prize.

http://tryingtoohard.org/wp...

sAVAge_bEaST4605d ago

Clever, and you brought nothing to the conversation,.

Congratulations,.! - http://kensegall.com/blog/w...

TheRealHeisenberg4605d ago

I can appreciate a good conversation, perhaps more than most. The constant anti-MS rhetoric bores me and is not worth more than a simple comment or two when I take in to consideration the posting habits of the authors. I give my prize and move on.

sAVAge_bEaST4605d ago

Then I'm sure you know that the first things you try and win, are the hearts and minds, of the opposition. I'm as anti-M$, as Astro.Turfers, are anti- Sony, and Nintendo.

jessupj4605d ago

Yet another stupid post that predictably doesn't bring anything to the discussion and disregards all the valid points of the blog.

Since you obviously know more than me, please enlighten me on how the cloud will work as MS's empty promises say it will.

BillytheBarbarian4605d ago

All this anti-Xbox stuff is making me want to get one. I've always went with the underdog in the past. Might do it again. I was an Ulimate Warrior fan when everyone was a Hogan fan, Sega fan when most kids had the nes, etc...something about the underdog is cool. Like Rocky.:)

1lawrence4605d ago

U should buy a Zune n put money down on the hornets to win it all ok

SilentNegotiator4605d ago (Edited 4605d ago )

You want it just because other people hate it?

Whatever helps you sleep at night.

BillytheBarbarian4605d ago

Yeah, like that show glee and the steelers:)
