Why do you participate in the console war?

Okay, so earlier this week I decided to purchase an xbox 360 slim from off of Amazon.com. I had previously been a PS3 only user for quite sometime. However, I was missing out on some games that I wanted to play such as Alan Wake and Left 4 Dead 2. I was also really surprised and intrigued by the Gears 3 Beta. I had alot of disposable cash so I thought why not?

After getting my 360 I immediately added 25+ friends I knew in real life. Just like that, I was connected and proceeded to suck myself into the xbox live. It's not a rip off like people say it is. The cross in game chat made it more fun to talk to my friends. I really loved Mass Effect 2 for the PS3 so I got the first Mass Effect and then Mass Effect 2 for the xbox. It feels better having played both games and I have a full understanding of what is going on within the story.

After a while, I went on youtube to release a bulletin let people know I had gotten a 360 so I could get their gamer tag. Instead of actually getting gamer tags my channel got flooded with statements such as "why did you get the ****box 360"? Also comments like "Halo is gay", RROD, and "xbox live is a ripoff". Not even an hour later people are debating about what console is better. It was pathetic, but something stood with me as these debates were going on.

The console war is pointless, repetitive, and unneccessary for consumers. It's good for the companies because it's advertising in a way. My beef with it though is that I wonder why people bother getting in these debates? Gaming is about fun for us consumers right? A preference is a preference but at the end of the day, we want to get lost in a world we never seen before. We want to bond with friends and have good laugh. We want to explore other people's imaginations.

The world is already divided enough. There are more serious issues globabally that affects our everyday lives such as religon, politics, race, gender, and status. The media already has their way of stretching the truth and slanting their stories to cause arguements. Why feed into that? Why let something as fun as gaming get in the way of your potential for enjoyment?

I finally sent a personal message to one of the main participants in the flame war on my channel. I asked him, " Why do you bother engaging in these pointless arguements?" " It's just an opinion." In his own words he said, " Because I'm bored and I like seeing people get butthurt over my comments "

So why do you participate in the console war?

Console war is one thing but the game war is another. Some of the stuff said about COD and BF3 is just ridiculous considering for BF3 all we seen is high end pc footage and COD is a trailer. It is like people are slowly moving from console war to game war. New level of retardation

SageHonor5440d ago

Exactly, if you like a game then just buy it? Why argue about what you think is better? Just enjot it! Thanks for leaving a comment! :)

Kee5440d ago

Because not everyone has the money to buy 3 consoles AND all the games they want.

So they ask online. They ask people on a forum: "Which console is the best?" And so it begins...

But see, they don't have an answer. All they have is the one system they chose. So they make stuff up to justify their choice.

They say "This one is better" or "That one is inferior" or "Get this one and I'll be your friend"

They have NOTHING to support these claims but they adamantly cling to the "fact" that they were right. When really, why did they buy the system?

The only reason I didn't buy a 360 is because the PS2 still had some good games out at the time...
Everybody has different reasons, but some people need to just play their games and stop trying to convince people that they are right.

Because ultimately, they are losing out in gaming time...

In marketing you learn all about this. If you buy say a game impulsively, the thing most people do is to then go on the internet and justify your purpose, but your personality will look at all the good things people have said and push aside any bad comments about that game. The same can be said for consoles, if you can only get one console you will try to justify it, not only to yourself but to others around you.

I don't really go into these wars because I own a 360,PS3 and a couple gaming PCs. I would normally get involved if something said is untrue.

Well a discussion is one thing and it must be had if gaming is to get better. If we never debated the positive and negative of all things gaming. A lot of advancements wouldn't be where they are today. The thing I do hate about the console war though. Is that stating a valid reason for why you don't care for something or don't need it is seen as hate.

The example you gave is one I hear often but one that does not effect me. All of my friends have PS3's because we talked about everything beforehand. I often hear PS3 gamers say a lot if not all of their friends have 360's. An that is a circumstance I did not let come to pass with my friends but I understand it.

I'm not saying that some of them don't have 360's. They do and I harbor no hate towards that. In my situation and the majority of my friends we have a different balance. Instead of PS3/360 we rock the PC/PS3 combo an as such we see our selves benefiting much more. I will agree with you that the party chat on live is the best feature. Though that alone does not warrant a purchase of an entire console. Moving on to the games I love Mass Effect and as such have enjoyed it thoroughly on my PC.

Not a big fan of Left 4 Dead to be honest but I've tried both. An if anything the best experience for that game is on PC. The mods an overall customization speak for themselves. Thought Alan Wake looked interesting but I am not a horror fan. Gears played 1 and 2 just wasn't that much fun to me so that holds no weight with me. Halo is also a game I have tried numerous times at friends homes never liked any of them.

My biggest reason for ever wanting a 360 was Mass Effect. An as you can see in my circumstances I have no issue with playing it. Gaming wise the PC offers much more then just that for me. I am a huge strategy fan and strategy games are PC. Dawn of War II to Civilization V, C&C zero hour, Dawn of Discovery, Starcraft II, Shogun 2 and many more.

I am also a huge RPG fan and the flood of articles on n4g speak for the Witcher 2. Also never really liked Fable beat the 2nd one over a friends home wasn't impressed. Yet I decided to give 3 a try when it released on PC and I am enjoying it so far. Despite the horrible optimization issues. The first Templar although maybe not triple A but one I took interest in. My PC once again allows me to play another not on PS3 title with no problem.

Looking forward Diablo III is shaping up to be a sight. An just like I platinum both Fallouts on PS3 then enjoyed PC mods for them a few months later. Skyrim will be no different, shaping up to be the first ES game I might enjoy. Dragon Age 1 enjoyed in all its slender ended up loving it months later.

FPS wise not really favorite genre but I'm sure Rage and for sure. BF3 will be best on played on PC. A high end one mind you but best all the same. I have no denials about what it will take to run BF3. Unlike some of the other PC players around here.

Splinter Cell Conviction, Metro 2033, the list goes on. An not one to really be impressed by graphics but man 2033 in DX11 high res is a sight. Also the recent Portal 2 enjoyed getting that on PS3 for 34.99 and benefiting from the PC copy. The list goes on but I've said enough already and I imagine by now you see my point.

Good blog topic always a favorite of mine.

Console war... what a silly thing. Last time i checked, i bought my console to play games, not to fight in some nonexistent war. Just enjoy the games.

news4geeks5440d ago

Give this man bubbles. I sympathise with him because he has to put up with his wife warprincess constantly trolling xD

r215440d ago (Edited 5440d ago )

yeah it sucks, console wars and fanboys are ripping gamers apart. why fight when we can just play games ;D

btw, epic Gundam facepalm, hahaha

Congrats on getting an xbox 360.

bwazy5440d ago

Agree'd that the whole console war is stupid. But i'll NEVER like the 360's controller more than the DS3. Thus a reason why I prefer to game on PS3... Although ALOT more of my friends own 360's.

news4geeks5440d ago

I was playing black ops on a friends 360 the other day(maps are so bad and gameplay is so uninspired I had to stop playing relatively quickly).

Couldn't get over how bad the triggers are for shooting and how clunky the analogue sticks are. Granted I'm used to keyboard/mouse but at least the DS3 has quick presses with R1/L1.

The whole idea of twitch gaming is to minimize any time taken to shoot. Those triggers only succeed in pretending to 12 year olds that you're shooting a real gun :/

awiseman5440d ago

Are you serious? What a troll. Ill have you know that the majority of the gaming community regards the Xbox controller as the best controller for FPS(aside from the mouse and keyboard of course :P)

The only problem with that controller is the D-Pad which is absolute garbage. D-pad aside the 360 controller is flawless. Stop trolling.

Redgehammer5440d ago

I am a 41 year old, and I have grown to prefer the 360 controller over every other input method I have ever used. I find the PS3 controller to be an excercise in "anti-ergonomics". From the shape of the shoulder buttons, to the completly uncomfortable position of the thumbsticks, I consistantly marvel that people can actually use the controller, let alone want too. I come from a PCcentric gaming history, and used to laugh at "console" kids, but things happen and sometimes you have to change, or not be able to continue doing what you love. I had one of those
life-changing paradigm shifts, and am just glad that there is a controller that lets me continue the hobby I have loved for 35+ years.

Enate5440d ago

Redgehammer I don't even own a 360 but I to prefer the controller at least for FPS games. An it does feel really nice to hold. Though that alone is not enough as holding the PS3 controller doesn't really bother me.

JD_Shadow5438d ago

So he's trolling just because he gave an opinion you didn't like?

Maybe it's you who should lose a bubble!

Sheikh Yerbouti5435d ago

I love the 360 controller because I have American man-hands, but you can get whatever type of controller for your system of choice. So the controller has little to do with the console.

It's the games silly.

Meh. Controller preference is exactly what it is-a PREFERENCE. Both 360 pad and DS3 are fine for the job whichever game you choose to play on console and both have their strengths and weaknesses in a general sense.

Personally I prefer my PS3 for multis that I don't play on PC(and I have grown away from gaming with key and mouse because of a few personal reasons which make it feel less immersive in SP and on consoles I feel MP is a more level playing field as, 90% of the time everyone is using the same tech and control set up that you are)including FP{S games these days-even iof The Witcher is a great current example of just what you can find on PC when devs put the efort in.

Anyway, I prefer the DS3 to 360 pad because , I think, of my left handedness. I think the disaligned analogues are done in the way a right hander would prefer and as such it's never felt as good for e as a lot of other games even if the D pad thing is, I think, overstated unless playing a real fighter. I might be totally wrong about my lefty theory but, honestly, I couldn't tell you any other reason why I might prefer my DS3 unless I've just got THAT used a DS controller over the years.

Either way I find it amazing people are saying they find it so hard using the one which isn't their favourite and can't believe anyone thinks Sony arrived at the DS3 after all the years DS have been used for gaming because it's anti ergonomic! I might like the 3DS best but I can still rip up a map with a 360 pad from time to time and don't mind using it for the 360 exclusives I play either. It may be a big enough factor to ensure I play console multiplats(alongside being sick and tired of paying for Live-I cannot believe how easily MS got away with making us all pay twice, really, esp when some of us are used to PC with it's free nature and openness!)on PS3 but I can't believe anyone would find it much of a bind having to use the other one now and then-I certainly don't and I even admit to having a preference.

I'll be honest, too, it's not nearly enough of a reason to start/join a console war!! What is? You may prefer the choice of exclusives on one or the other but why that gives anyone the reason ion their mind to attack another gamer is beyond me and also stops us dealing with ACTUAL issues like the way the pirates among us make everyone's gaming life worse.
