mini FolkLore review gets no Love in the the Forums
FOLKLORE
So some of you may have read a comment or two of mine saying how I
picked up FolkLore recently and that after finishing up the orange box I
would be diving into FolkLore for the PS3, Well .... I Dove.
Its a good thing I know how to swim, Because FolkLore is a Folkin long game!
Not long in a Folkin 40 hrs way... More of a OMG how much longer till I Folkin finish this game.
If you have watched any video's of this game off the net you should
already know how breathtakingly beautiful the art design of the levels
are.
Im sure I have never seen such imagination and use of vibrant colors, It's really like stepping into a painting.
From the town of Doolin to HellRealm and beyond... Every level was masterful.
Unfortunately the camera is only available at certain areas of the game [only in battle] and even then is pretty clunky.
The battle system is pretty bland for my taste ... Too simple for the
more advanced gamer. But at least there are lots of different creatures
[Folks] to use and absorb.
It was way to simple... one folk =
one move... I really would have liked the folks to have more attacks
and more user control.
The use of the six axis while battling was a actually a very key element in this game and I was very impressed with it.
The six axis motion sensors came into play when you where absorbing
folk... Pretty simple when you were absorbing common folk but when you
had to absorb FolkLore's the techniques became a little more tricky and
made the six axes work for its money.
The Story = The meat and potato's or the broccoli?
Well i have a feeling alot of folks out there are not going to warm up to the style of story telling in FolkLore.
They use 3 methods of telling the tale.
- First would be the head to head style text reader of two characters talking to each other.
- The second method was a comic book esque style
- And third and the best but muchly absent way is the actual Video cut scenes
The Story is an attractive one but it is told in a way that wil have you falling asleep with the controller in your hand.
I personally would have made the game with only video cut scenes for
story telling and if I was going to have the comic book thing going on
I would have had voice actors reading the text as well.
Also while game play is visually beautiful it seemed like the characters were scribbled while in head to head conversations?
I guess you could call it artistic design... but I call it a crack in the foundation.
Also in order to complete the game you DO have to play through it with both characters which was a unexpected surprise for me but welcomed because it let me spend a little more time appreciating the game in all its beauty
Wrapping this up, I would give folklore a
7/10
Although I did really enjoy playing the game, I will be trading it back in.
The storymode is gonna be long and involving. I'll bring you my impressions once im finish(that might take awhile).
Thats one more comment than my thread did!
FolkLore was well worth the play and I dont understand the Un-Interest?
Hope you take the time to savor the ability to level up your Folks and appreciate what this dev brought to the table.
I look forward to more from you.
