Portable gaming & Travelling

I thought I would start my first ever post as a blog entry.
currently touring the wonderful world of Athens,Greece and surrounding islands i've had a tremendous amount of fun and excitement. and my poor Playstation 4 is at home collecting dust, and hopefully not being tortured by my little sister and cat.

Anyway, i just thought it would be nice to kind of hit base and tell you how it might be to travel abroad with nothing more than a few things such as a laptop, and your preferred portable device. personally i'm not big on mobile style games so no iphones, tablets or other moblie style devices were brought along. I opted to bring my beloved Vita and my 3DS as well as my adored steam account for the long 42 day journey to Europe.

I made sure to make a list and check it twice, one thing I found very convenient and easier to manage was not bringing physical copies of games along for the ride (though I did bring one). But after all, what would I do if I lost my copy of ocarina of time 3D?... that would just be hours of gameplay I couldn't risk losing. so I decided to take advantage of my digital library and brought along some wonderful titles.

I even got a chance to hack away at my grotesque back-log of games I had once thought were so great and got bored of to continue to play.

I had the opportunity to play through the whole Complete First season of the walking dead by telltale and boy was I blown away, mind you the game is over 3 years old now. I had it sitting on my to-do list for quite sometime and i'm glad I sank my teeth into its amazing story. I had a few days to play it on the island of rhodes, and during my down time tried completing at least one chapter every time I had a chance. im glad i waited to play it, because whenver i took a step outside into paradise of this greek island i couldn't help but wonder what was going to happen next for Lee and Clementine. I had points where i even brought it along with a pair of headphones and just lost myself to the brilliant story along the beach. truly one of my favorite gaming experiences ever! and who would think it would be on the vita.

another game I hold dear to my heart and cannot be without is my pokemon titles, for this trip i did happen to bring one physical game and you bet its gonna be pokemon! omega ruby to be exact. and boy did I ever do some grinding along the way, nothing stellar in terms of new and exciting for me but certainly a great way to kill time between flights and just have some good old pokemon fun!

aside from those two being the main games i played for the first week or two, i got very bored. I chose to do what any right minded gamer would and ran to the playstation store and Estore to see what was happening back home in terms of content. suffice to say i found nothing on the nintendo store, but did pick up a gem that is a exclusive to playstation and boy was I glad i got it.

HELLDIVERS by arrowhead studios is an amzing cross-play co-op experience and even though I have no friends to play this with I sure as hell am Enjoying the crap out of it! if you're ever on a break, or just have 5-10 minutes you want to kill. this game is an amazing choice. I can pick up and be in the action, killing things and not having to worry. its great, and actually blends into the next game i brought along for my journey.

Earth Defense Force 2017. Another fabulous title that needless to say is something to just pick-up and play. it kills time and sure as hell lets you kill alot more in the process, bugs, ships, buildings, you name it! if you ever wanted a quick and easy game to play this title is perfect for any traveller in need of quick killing and fun fast paced action.

among all these great titles I brought along many other titles such as:

-Zelda oracle of seasons
-Monster hunter 4
-batman arkham origins: blackgate
-retro city rampage
-dead nation
-starfox 64
-resogun
-hotline miami 2
-dont starve giant edition
-metal gear solid 3 snake eater
-rachet and clank collection
-portal
-counter-strike global offensive
-left for dead

and all the great titles mentioned above in detail.

I found myself always jumping to games that didn't take up too much time to start up or get involved in, games like starfox and resogun, retro city rampage and dead nation, all provided that quick game experience. and if I did ever have a second of homesickness or long lonely nights of nothing I could sink into one of the amazing games full of story and gamplay like oracle of seasons, and batman or even the amazing Rachet&clank series was a pleasure to play while flying through the skies to istanbul. games like portal, and left for dead also were fun to just jump into and get a bit of action in while at my boring uncles greek style abode. not to say it was all bad, but whenver I played a game people would flock around and ask me all sorts of questions, as if they never seen such a thing! and i was more than happy to show them how cool it is to make an endless portal in which to defy gravity. or how many zombies can fit on the screen before i ran out of patience and blasted them with an M4.
Good times. very good times.

seriously though, I mean it when I say i'm truly blessed to be a gamer. and moments like these are only possible thanks to my portable consoles.

But now that my trip is coming to an end, and I've fed my urge for adventure and sightseeing. I'm happy to get home and start focusing on my playstation 4 again! I mean, the taken king just dropped yesterday and I still crave to play the Last of us multiplayer.

but that's another talk for another time, hope you enjoyed my little talk about my time traveling with my portables and hope you all get a chance to experience it too.

So, don't forget your favorite games Because Not every part of vacation is fun. I found the small tidbits of gaming goodness can certainly be the remedy for any boredom you find along the way and also make for great conversation starters with people who cant speak your language. airports, cafes, beaches, plain old downtime, or you just cant sleep. whatever the case is just stop and don't think twice, you should get that device and fill it up nice! and get ready for the trip of your life!

happy gaming.

I still bring my Gameboy Pocket along with me on long flights or drives and play a bit of Pokemon Red.

That is the full extent of my mobile gaming and could probably last me until the end of time.

PSP for me with custom firmware, it's stuck with me for years and there are loads of games I still haven't tried.

Nvidia Shield Portable for me all the way. I love the selection of Android games. Its almost a renaissance for older 90's Pc games in the Android Marketplace.

Plus all the emulators and Roms..... Playing Portable has never been so good!

i still have my old psp when i go away but i don't really want to get into something deep because i'm on vacation. that's why i just stick to easy pick up and play games.

Only talented students go on to a university and receive a master’s degree in education. Finland only takes the best to educate its youth.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing55d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Tanktopmaster9255d ago

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit55d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing55d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9255d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
