So most of you are probably tired of all the negative articles and opinions surrounding Ready at Dawn's upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive The Order: 1886. Most of the negativity seems to be "Justified" by the people making these opinions; Story too short, linear, too many QTE segments, too many cutscenes, etc. Now i have yet to actually play The Order so this is not an opinion on the game or is it implying that the game is actually any good, it is just pointing out the flaws in the arguments being made against it by others who have yet to play it. I will be using 3 generally liked games from last gen as examples for why i can't agree with the reasoning behind disliking The Order before it has even released.
God of War 3: 92/100 on Metacritic
Length: ~8-10 hours
Multiplayer: No
QTEs: Yes
So my first example is god of war 3, many people you ask would agree that God of War III is indeed a great game, but just like The Order, God of War only lasts about 8 hours if you don't go for all collectibles and trophies. It also has QTEs aplenty, is linear, and very much story driven yet most people would agree that it was one of the best games on Ps3. Once you have beaten the single player, there is no multiplayer to go back and play, but it seems like the general consensus was that it didn't matter because the great single player campaign it offered was more than enough.
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune: 88/100 on Metacritic
Length: ~7-9 hours
Multiplayer: No
QTEs: Yes
Here's my second example, this one resembles The Order even more, it was a new IP 3rd person shooter, it only lasted about 8 hours, had a bunch of cutscenes, some QTEs, and no multiplayer. It had a great story driven by great characters and voice acting and released to generally favorable reviews, it was also the first of what turned out to be on of PlayStation's most well known franchises and is generally seen as a great first attempt in what turned out to be an excellent franchise.
The Walking Dead: A Telltale Games Series: 89/100(PC) 94/100(PS3) on Metacritic
Length: ~10 hours
Multiplayer: No
QTEs: Exclusively
Finally, a very well liked game, the story driven, all QTE based Walking Dead Game by Telltale. So The Walking dead also released to favorable reviews, the game features QTEs almost exclusively, has no multiplayer, and is mostly cutscenes. The story takes you on a great adventure and is very memorable and enjoyable to most people who have played it. Yes it may offer more "choice" than The Order but in truth most of your decisions are cosmetic and have no affect on how the story progresses, it is very much linear, but it didn't seem to affect how this game was received by Critics and Gamers alike.
So my main question is, why don't the same standards apply to The Order: 1886? Yeah, the game might end up being average and not very memorable, but length, QTEs, and lack of multiplayer shouldn't be a reason to judge before playing. Because, as I've shown, the story driven, single player only concept has worked for games in the past.
Let me know what you think. Agree? Disagree? and why? What makes the games in my example different from The Order?

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The charity event will be streamed live from Gamescom in August.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.
Apologizing now for the less than professional writing. Hope it sparks some good discussion though.
I'll say it once more, as far as everything we've seen its just peoples expectations were higher when we went into next-gen and the direction RaD wanted with Graphics/story > Gameplay wasn't something lots of people liked about it.
As for now I am done commenting on The order articles until the embargo breaks tomorrow on everything.
I lost 2 bubbles just because I swam against the river of people's personal opinions, and I got suspended for 24 hours just because I posted a twitter post linking to breaking news about it in 2 separate articles, so lol its spam.
I think you have to look at it more than just comparing games with QTE's and short lengths to other games that have the same. For me personally this game is more than a right fit for multiplayer action than a Telltale, God of War or Uncharted game.
You have squad base action, multiple awesome weapons, duck and cover action like Gears, great sets that could be maps and just other great ideas that would fit more than perfect into a multiplayer game.
Also I think QTE action is getting a little tiresome for this gen. We saw it being completely used to death in games from last gen and when Ryse was shown off you saw the boiling point of people not wanting to mash buttons at specific points. Designers need to come up with a better way to utilize QTE's or not use them at all.
QTEs should have died with Sega CD fmv games. Yuck
the walking dead was not $60 as it was released in small doses and that plan worked much better than if they were going to charge $60 upfront. is there even a demo for the order available to try aside from paying $60?
those other games listed also did not have 35% of that 6-8 hours of playtime made up of cutscenes and a further 15% of qte which reduces the actual playtime by quite a margin.
