Ever since the PS3 tech demo, and even before that, fans of Final Fantasy VII have been salivating over the thought of a remake of the game that brought JRPGs to new heights. FF7 is regarded to many- myself included- as the best game that has ever been released, and although that may be subjective, it speaks volumes to how many fans hold this title so highly.
Final Fantasy VII wasn't the only great game that was being pump out by the king of JRPGs. Square was making classics like; Secret of Mana/Evermore, Final Fantasy series, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Kingdom Hearts series, Xenogears and many more. Even with that rich history of killer games, I was never completely sold on a remake of FF7.
On April 1st, 2003 things would change for the company. I wish it was an April fools gag but Square did the fusion dance with another video game company name Enix, becoming Square Enix. Prior to the merger Enix published some well known games such as the Dragon Quest series and Star Ocean. Maybe the merger isn't all bad but sadly not many classic games came out of it.
-The Mana series was butchered and milked dry. Sword/Dawn/Children of Mana all were bad games.
-The Final Fantasy series hasn't been the same. FFX-2 was a great departure from X. Many enjoyed FF12 but that's where the biggest change was made to the series. I actually enjoyed FF13, couldn't stand 13-2 and completely skipped 13-3. FFvs13, trashed and reborn as FF15 has been in developmental hell.
-The Kingdom Hearts series has been milked for all it's worth with spinoffs. It took them years to finally start developing the game anyone really cared about and that was KH3. Who knows how many more years that will take.
As developers they came out with some good games, but how many of them will you look back on and say "man, those were amazing games"? Kingdom Hearts 2, Crisis Core and Final Fantasy 13 (unpopular opinion lol) are the only ones that come to mind. As developers, I don't trust them and I feared that somehow, someway, Final Fantasy VII would be butchered.
Fast forward to last weekends PSX event where they finally showed some gameplay footage. Not to my surprised, the game was more action oriented to my dismay. Like we need more SE games that play exactly the same. I also despised the voice acting.
Then more news broke that Final Fantasy won't be released as one game, why would it? Instead it will be released in parts. What exactly does that mean, I don't know but it sounds HORRIBLE. I can maybe look past the new battle system, because the visuals do look great and who knows, maybe it'll be great in a different way than what I was hoping for. This episodic trash however is unacceptable. I know this is only the very tip of the iceberg. As the game inches closer to its release date (whenever that is), more disturbing information will come out. Soon it won't even be the same game but Square Enix will happily slap Final Fantasy VII on the cover in hopes of getting suckers to fall for the name.
My wearyness turned out to be exactly what I expected. Square Enix doesn't have a clue, and hasn't had one in quite sometime. I wish they truly cared about the fans and respected the game that propelled the genres popularity here in the west but it is clear that they don't care. This game wouldn't exist without the fans wanting a remake, begging for a remake. All they care about is the potential cash cow, and their own vision of how they think the game should be. Hey that's fine, but you are going to piss off a lot of fans and alienate them in the process, and I will be one of them.
I'll stick with the original game. It may not have the beautiful visuals produced by the Unreal Engine but it will definitely have more soul then whatever garbage they're pumping out now-a-days anyway.

WTMG's Heidi Hawes: "PARANORMASIGHT: The Mermaid’s Curse is a wonderful follow-up to the The Seven Mysteries of Honjo. You won’t need to have played the first game to understand this one, but there are a few references to characters and events from that game that will give fans of the first an extra layer of appreciation. The pacing is can be rough, especially during the opening hour or so, but beyond that is a game that has plenty of twists, turns, and thought-provoking themes."

Saber Interactive have traded in its mud, snow, and off-road monstrosities for heavy machinery, asphalt, and the smell of the ocean.

City Hunter is an interesting piece of gaming history and a competent port. It's just a port of a game that isn't very good
I think its sad that people are losing their marbles and drawing conclusions and making hard stances up in their heads without even touching the finished products. It's very extremist and irrational behavior.
You've written a long entitled rant based on little actual information about the game. I firmly suggest that you stow your disappointment until the game is actually released, and there are some facts upon which to judge the game.
It's going to rock. I'm not a fan of episodic releases either but if you wait long enough it will probably be available altogether eventually like the walking dead.
