On Monday, during Sony's press conference at E3, it was finally announced that one of the most iconic and highly anticipated game was finally getting the remake it very much deserves. It stole the show (and possibly the entire Expo) with a short trailer that shows glimpses of Midgar, Barret's hand gun, and the iconic Buster Sword. Roars can from the crowed as the excitement consumed the room, myself included. Fans of the game have been waiting years and years for this and now it finally has come to fruition. Two days later my excitement has died down and now I can't help but now feel a little bit nervous for my absolute favorite game of all time.
I debated in my head in previous years whether or not if I truly wanted a remake. It's not like I don't want one, but I don't necessarily have faith in Square Enix to deliver an experience that closely replicates the nearly 20 year old game. I don't think staying absolutely true to the original source is a must, but keeping things relatively the same should be a priority.
There is an article from Gamespot ( http://www.gamespot.com/art... where Nomura gives an unclear response to possible changes to the series' narrative or to other aspects. I'm all for cleaning up some poor dialog and translation problems, maybe add some things to tie in previous games/movie in the series (i.e mentions of Genesis), but for the most part, keep the plot the same.
My biggest concern is if they will opt to keep the turn based (ATB) system or go for a more modern approach and use a Kingdom Hearts/Final Fantasy XV real time action RPG style. My hope is that they stick with turn based, but I feel that they will go in the opposite direction. I think turn based combat is essential, and it doesn't have to be exactly the same. The only good thing that came out of Final Fantasy X-2 was an addictive, faster pace, and more strategic turn based battle system. These are the kind of changes I would welcome if change was going to happen. I enjoy being able to control other characters in my party, I have complete say in what their inputs are, and strategizing next moves with healing items, buffs, or debuffs.
Change is necessary and I do understand things that worked in 1997 won't always translate well in the modern gaming market. I'm all for tweaks and fixes but not complete changes. As I've said, I believe it's important to stay as true as possible to a game most people hold highly. If not, then you might/will get an angry mob of people, and nobody wants an angry mob of people.
Square Enix, don't be cute, continue to give the gamers what we want and continue to listen to your loyal fans. You will greatly benefit from it.

Mouse: P.I. For Hire Review: noir-inspired Doom-like shooter with mice, cheese, satisfying guns and fun abilities. A fantastic love letter to classic shooters
Gamespot says: "It's an incredible game that does more than just refine what worked before. Even after rolling credits, I can't wait to dive back in."
VGC: "There is perhaps nothing better in this medium than when a game “feels,” right. When the moves in the player’s arsenal are tied to hyper-responsive controls, matched by clear, dazzling visuals, and an epic soundscape. This is where Housemarque has always excelled."
Director: Tetsuya Nomura, It would be an action rpg.
Barret Third-Person Shooter, Tifa Melee Combat, Cait Sith a tank, RedXIII a Berserker, Yuffie Kisaragi wall running ninja, etc.
Original FINAL FANTASY VII director, Yoshinori Kitase is currently making a Turn-Based JRPG, called MOBIUS FINAL FANTASY.
Can we get 100 comments on this blog demanding Turn-Based gameplay? Maybe also demand the Original Director, Yoshinori Kitase to Direct FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE? It could send them the message.
Hopefully this game actually does come out within the next decade. Square has been eating more than they can chew lately.
The game I really liked was a turn based RPG and that's what I expected over the years. If they change it to be more like the newer games I will just skip it.
I really hope it's not turn based, that was cool 10 years ago but now is so lame
The only person that can lead a FFVII remake is Sakaguchi-San
