With Nintendo, Sony, and Mircrosoft all having their next generation consoles out in the wild I think its the right time to start thinking about the games that defined this past generation.
Before I begin my list I would like to inform you that there are a lot of games that I missed out on that might not be here. There were also quite a few games I played that were very disappointing that are not on here. This is solely based on games that I was able to play, and obviously 100% opinion.
Why 15? I have no idea but here it goes.....
----------
15. Tomb Raider.
To kick off my favorite games from Generation 7 is Tomb Raider and wow, I did not expect this. I was looking for a good game but what I got was a GREAT game. The origins of Lara Croft, and the development of her character was something to witness. Excellent gameplay and a story to keep you interested. Rarely do you see a complete game this day that does not need DLC so it was very refreshing. Everything was outstanding....except the Multiplayer, but that did nothing to ruin this experience.
----------
14. Xenoblade Chronicles. *2012 Game of the Year*
Thank goodness for Nintendo localizing this game because it was all that, and a bag of chips (sorry for the lame phrase). The game was massive with an excellent story that kept changing, a captivating soundtrack, well thought out characters, and highly addictive gameplay that rewarded strategy. Also, it's a shame that this game was made for the Wii because it's visuals are gorgeous, even in standard definition. All RPG fans need to play this.
Note: The game was released in Japan and Europe in 2010 and 2011 respectively, making it technically not a 2012 game. I normally don't like to do that but here in the States the game never saw the light and it was just too hard to not give it Xenoblade Chronicles. It was the only great game I played that year.
----------
13. Dead Space 2.
With the survival horror genre feeling rejuvenated with the release of the first Dead Space, DS2 really put it out there capitalizing on the foundation put forth. There a bit more emphasize on action but it never lost sight on what make it successful. Returning to the Ishamura is possibly one of gamings greatest moments, and it scared the living heck out of me.
Note: I did not attempt to play Dead Space 3. It looked as if EA really played a hand in how this game turned out, making it look like a different game. Micro-transaction and an even greater emphasis on action was a big turn off. Maybe I'll play it one day but not anytime soon, that's for sure.
----------
12. Batman: Arkham City.
Another game where the sequel blows the first game out of the water. Asylum was good but Arkham city was Batman on "Venom". A huge, open world to explore, a more refined combat system, and a greater story helped elevate Arkham City pass its predecessor.
Note: I have not played Batman: Origins. One day.
----------
11. Final Fantasy XIII.
I might make a few eyes roll with this one but I genuinely loved FFXIII. It might not have been your prototypical Final Fantasy game, but if you ignore the name on the box you may actually appreciate how good this game really is. The story might not have been that great but the character development, graphics and sound were amazing. Also, it has the best battle system in the series that some how combined real time combat with a turn based twist. And that ending made me shed tears of manliness. So satisfying.
Note: Unfortunately for the series, SE decided to milk it for all it's worth creating Final Fantasy XIII-2 (which was the purest form of trash), and Lightning Returns.
---------
10. Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
Another game that caught me by surprise and might have never experienced it if my brother hadn’t purchased it. It had a story element similar to that of a Metal Gear Solid game, very detailed and well told, meshed with gameplay like that of Mass Effect. It also had very strong level design, and the amount of freedom that is given to the gamer is unlike anything I have ever played in recent memory. I’m in total control over what I'm doing. I could do the same mission multiple times and never use the original route I took. That’s pretty impressive.

Games 9 through 6 will come when I have everything together. I also encourage you guys to start thinking about the games you enjoyed the most. Thanks for reading!

I agree with 13, 12 and 10. I also predict a Bethesda game in your top ten ;)
I had more fun than I expected with Tomb Raider, I would go as far to say that I liked it more than Uncharted 3. I did not like Deux Ex though, didn't even finish that game
I've played Batman Arkham City, Final Fantasy XIII, and Deus Ex. Batman was a real fun game. I actually prefer Asylum to City. I still don't know why though. I think I just liked the asylum setting more even though it might have been a smaller area.
As for FF13, I really enjoyed the game as well. I thought it was a good game. I do agree that if people would stop expecting it to be a traditional FF game, they would have enjoyed it more. That's how I treated it and I had a good time. I'm one of the few who actually disliked XIII-2 but liked XIII.
As for Deus Ex, it's just not my type of game. Like Heavy, I couldn't complete it. I just couldn't get into the game. The main reason I tried playing it was because my roommate talked so much about it. Something just didn't click with me though. Glad that a bunch of people enjoy it though.
I'm glad to see so many RPGs. I'm looking forward to see what RPGs u list that I haven't had the pleasure of playing.
I don't know Tomb Raider felt like "Total Eclipse" anime. It has by far the best intro of any game ever,
SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!
So Lara and her crew are on their way to a mysterious island near Japan, during a storm the ship (Hope) is split in half Lara tries to jump towards the hands of one of his fellow crew members but falls into the ocean. Upon being drifted onto the island she gets kidnapped by an anonymous person. She finds herself hanging to free herself she burns the ropes and part of her body. Upon falling she impales herself by accident on her right rib. Traversing wonkily around the cave she hears the anonymous person calling her out. She frantically escapes the cave while it begins to collapse being chased by the crazy person. Upon escaping the fallen cave, she seeks shelter. She finds shelter in a cliff of a mountain where she makes a small fire dying of hunger she sets out to hunt for food. She grievely kills a deer and of course eats it. From that moment forward it becomes Uncharted with Russians (why why it must be Russians). I mean the whole hunting, the fear of killing, feeling hungry, dehydrated hell the whole survival elements are gone why. I been dying for a survival game for the longest since MGS 3 snake eater. It was perfectly set up at the beginning you are hungry you hunt food since it's your first kill you feel remorsed. Not knowing who the enemy is or were it may be coming from perfect especially if you are on an island, dehydration excellent idea at the beginning not implemented. Aaaaaarghhhh I will keep waiting for a true survival game. Ok here are my favorite 15 games in no order from this generation :
Uncharted franchise
Portal franchise
Bioshock franchise
To the moon
Amnesia Dark descent
Deux Ex Human revolution
Emerald City Confidential
Dust an elysian tail
The Walking Dead
Bastion
