And here we go, with my second blog post; this time around, I'll be discussing another personal point of view. And no, this is not a retarded post intended to troll you, so stop overreacting and read on.
As you may know by now, thanks to the big title up there, the main theme on this post will be fanboys, their glorified pieces of electronics, and their oh-so-stupid brand loyalty, as well as how they relate to the community here, as far as I've got to experience it.
First off, no human is capable of showing no bias towards something. After all, we like and dislike different things, wich is why hell, even I show some bias when it comes to certain..."stuff", one could say.
But really, when you're in the comments of different news on the front page, saying stuff like "Sony rox omg!!11" "M$ can sux it lol", or hell, the other way around with "3DS is a beast!!!!111", "Halo: Reach FTW!!1 perfect gaem sux it sony", and another posts that REALLY make me worry about the mental sanity of these individuals, I can't help but feel annoyed and bothered with it.
As I said, everyone shows some signs of bias towards certain things, but when it comes down to...THAT...I really don't know. It's a pathetic display, to be honest.
I wonder if these fanboys are really honest with themselves; because hell, you can't like EVERY SINGLE EXCLUSIVE THAT COMES OUT ON A CERTAIN PLATFORM. You HAVE to dislike something, right? You should voice your opinion on things you don't like, instead of report-bombing a certain article that involves Hideki Kamiya saying he won't buy Gran Turismo 5, while approving things like "David Cage's left ball itches as he glorifies Sony once again", or "Kazunori Yamauchi says Premium Cars take 6 months to make despite GT5 taking 5 years in development and having 200-something Premium Cars, in other words, do the math." or any other article of the same nature.
What does NOT helps at all is how, usually, comments made by fanboys are truly a waste of time (Well, we're here to waste time, anyways) that consist of trolling back and forth between two, or more, users.
Consoles all have ups and downs. Companies usually screw up horribly. Developers promise too many things and deliver none. It's fine to comment about your dissapointment and dislikes. Really, nothing's perfect, and pointing out those flaws usually helps more than it hurts. You should not glorify anything, but rather simply say what's wrong, what you don't like, hell, you get the idea.
And no, the signs of fanboyism are even WORSE when it comes to N4G. Abusing the system that basically relies on the community, we have idiots that will report you if they don't like your comment; simply voicing your personal point of view is reported as "Trolling", "Immature", or more things that make me really worried about how N4G, as a page, works out. Let us not forget about the disagrees for those small, irrelevant and non-biased comments some individuals do! Truly hilarious, alright.
Either that, or rushing out to the store to buy overpriced, gimmicky motion controllers you will (probably) never use, yet again praising it for whatever it has, or making up excuses for things you BUY.
It just really seems VERY silly to me. Why must you all protect and hold dear pieces of electronic you PAID for, as well as these companies that do something right once every blue moon?
Remember, the customer is always right. Your right (and obligation) as a customer is to demand BETTER products, not simply stay idle while praising these doubtful games and accesories you probably don't even like.
In other words, stop being such a goddamn, horrible sheep! Voice your own, personal opinion instead of following this hivemind-like community!
Seriously, people. Being a fanboy is simply retarded, so I'd suggest YOU stop being one! (Well, if you are)
"Legendary Pilots, the stylised flight simulator that blends accessible flying with career progression and light management systems, is available now on Steam." - MicroProse.
"nospace lost and Shoreline Games are today very happy to announce that their jump-and-run anime game, ‘Kick’, is now in development for PC." - nospace lost and Shoreline Games.
"Belgian indie developer Business Goose Studios announces that its heartfelt puzzle game Swan Song, inspired by a true personal story, will launch on Steam on June 4th." - Business Goose Studios.
Actually, this generation's fanboyism (which is unlike any before seen) is directly due to one thing:
Microsoft. When the PS3 launched and performed at a level less than Jesus, 360 fanboys and a great deal of the Western media mocked Sony and its supporters. It didn't help that Microsoft PR reps also joined in on the fun. Every review for a PS3 game below 90 was "not AAA. Fail!" Every game delay, no matter how small, was "delaystation!". Blu-Ray was doomed. PS3 had no games. Basically, for at least 18 months straight PS3 owners were called stupid for picking the PS3 over the 360,and understandably, this made many PS3 owners defensive and even insecure.
I watched all this from the sidelines as a Wii/PC/DS gamer and saw the snowball effect.
Now, today there are certainly hordes of "sheep" as you call them on both sides, but forgive me for having a bit more sympathy for Sony. The PS3 fans and its games have both been treated very harshly since the getgo, so perhaps you can understand why there is so much bad blood between certain groups of fanboys.
Perfectly written article. Thanks for "not being scared" to voice your own opinion. We need more people like you really. Though the sad thing is, nothing is going to change. If I love my Xbox 360 and say it without saying anything biased but simply stating; "I like it because of these reasons", I get bombed with disagrees and bubble down votes. A couple of months ago, one of my comments has been marked as spam and admins/mods accepted it as one, and I directly lost one of my bubbles for no reason eventhough it just contained my own opinion about the article/news piece. And I completely agree with you about the thing you said about exclusive games. I really hate when people say this much exclusive games/content is coming to this platform while this much is coming to this. They're thinking that exclusive games are the only thing that defines a console's quality when there are tons of multiplatform games out there and other things to consider (like comfort of the controller, online service, features, etc.) It's really really sad. Again, thanks for your non-biased opinions about the matter.
"Thing is, by the launch time of the PS3/Before the Slim, the flaws were so painfully obvious there was NOT a reason to get one, seeing as how other consoles provided a better experience."
Thing is, by the launch time of the XBOX360/Before the Slim, the flaws were so painfully obvious there was NOT a reason to get one, seeing as how other consoles provided a better experience.
Think McFly!!! Think!!!!
The worst thing about fanboyism is the amount of attention we pay to it.
"as a customer is to demand BETTER products!!"
That's why I will never buy a 360 or its accessory until they proof that they are worth the price the are at. 120 gb hdd for $100 is being greedy when you consider that all other 120 gb hdds are less than $70
