Oh, Uncharted 2. A game that got an amazing amount of awards from everywhere- and in my opinion, well deserved.
A title that was practically perfect on what it did, although it had one, ONE fatal flaw for me:
I could not replay it.
Uncharted 2 was a cinematic and set pieces-heavy game. It had things blowing up, it conveniently stopped you before this big piece of wood fell and crushed you horribly, it had alot of dialog (good dialog, mind you), and a plot akin to the ones of Indiana Jones, with some likeable characters.
It also had a mix of puzzles and platforming, as well as gunfights.
But...after playing it once, I could not bring myself to play it again.
Let me elaborate; everything was done perfectly. Thing is, the gameplay itself wasn't all that fun. It was pretty basic most of the time, in fact.
This is what killed a replay for me. Lack of fun. Too basic. Felt like a chore, we could say.
I couldn't replay the campaign- and being a Single Player-only (Well, most of the time) guy, Uncharted 2 just fell on the dark depths of my collection, being covered by dust as time passed.
I did not felt the same the first time through it- in fact, I could not stop playing it. There was just something that hooked me up to the game. As I've stated on this post before, it wasn't the case the second time through it.
Personally, lack of a great gameplay is a fatal flaw in a game. It is perfect for what it does- but it just feels too...basic. There's nothing AWESOME and INCREDIBLE about it, and a game that just feels boring...my theory is, the game was just awesome the first time around, but after that it fell short for said basic gameplay I've mentioned. The set pieces were awesome, the whole thing made you go "whoah!"- but, after you've seen everything the game had to offer, it did not felt fun nor incredible.
How is such a basic, boring game the best GAME this generation?
I do not know. It is perhaps just me- wich is why I'm going to ask, did this happen to you? Did you feel the same?
You could reply on the Comment section if you feel like it.

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "While not carrying the same heft it enjoyed long ago, last year was one of the adventure genre's most commercially-successful years in this century. A Telltale-esque adventure eclipsing 3 million sales in three months would be the talk of the town were it not for another adventure game hurdling over 10 million sales in two. Though not all finalists reached those heights, each did share a greater amount of spotlight compared to similar titles within their respective sub-genres.
Past any sales thresholds and popularity contests, 2025 also deserves credit for its creativity; the last time our entire shortlist consisted exclusively of new IPs was for Best Adventure Game of 2020. An impressive year for the genre, with even greater potential ahead."
Inti Creates’ vibrant action platformer Majogami will shed its Switch console exclusivity and strike PS5 on 28th May, the Japanese dev has announced.

Bandai Namco announced today that its popular flight simulator-lite Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown has passed another sales milestone.
Great game, and deserves all its sales. Ace Combat has always been a great series. I should replay AC7 again for the fourth time.
It’s unfortunate that Ace Combat8 won’t have vr, as the devs felt it would be too much work and they would be essentially making two games.
Would love a release of Ace Combat6 on PlayStation, but I’d be fine with Ace3,4&5 remasters for PS5 with updated tightened controls.
Uncharted 2 is the best for me because there is nothing like it this gen or even last. Sure there are 3rd person shooters, puzzle/platformers, adventure titles; but there is no other Uncharted 2. It has taken many elements and created a multi-faceted personality for itself. With that said, I could see that if one of its pillars isn't strong enough for you, how the whole thing might come tumbling down when you play it with old eyes.
But I've replayed it several times on all the difficulties, logged in several hours on the multiplayer, co-op, and the gameplay continues to excite me. The animations are smooth, gunplay is tight, and controlling drake is such a breeze. I'll give that the spectacle of the set pieces does wear down some but they're so well-done it never becomes a chore going through them.
Whether or not Uncharted 2 is your top game or not is merely opinion it's definitely in my top five at least but I haven't really thought about it.
I severely disagree with your opinion that the game lacks replay value and has "basic" and "boring" gamplay. Not only does the game include multiple difficulty levels for challenge but also treasures to collect as well as unlockable tweaks such as zero-g for dead guys etc. All this AND a fantastic multiplayer experience that is very well supported by the devs.
As for the gameplay well, I'm having major trouble trying to think of a game that does stealth, shooting, cover system, CQC, platforming/climbing and set-piece interaction all together with such a high degree of quality.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the game is perfect but I believe "basic" and "boring" are VERY harsh criticisms. If I had to put it down I'd say there were a couple of moments where it wasn't clear what to do (i.e. when the helicopter shoots the building down with you in it ad you have to jump at last second) and some of the 'boss' fights just felt like 'running and gunning' a lot.
If I was forced to think about it I'd say Uncharted 2 would definitely be in my top 10 games of the generation... even maybe top games ever.
no doubts that Uncharted 2 is a stellar title on the PS3 and after playing through on Crushing I never touched the SP again. However, ND turned out a pretty good MP game which I still enjoy - and will carry me through to Uncharted 3.
Just understand what I'm saying is also opinion. I welcome yours, you welcome mine.
You're saying that it's not the best game because it lacked "fun".
But, that is the genre they chose. Just as daydream said, it just wouldn't have that same feel if it were any different. You could talk about how you wanted it to be different all you want, but then it would just be a different game.
Anyway, to declare a game NOT the best game this generation, you must have a different game or at least some games that are better candidates.
Which one/ones do you think have that rightful claim to be the best this gen?

This.
