Technology Worth Crying For

As I battered my way through squads of KPA troops and the bizarre tentacled aliens, I (really it was Psycho...not me) took a moment to catch my breathe and reflect on the young soldier who had just perished as well as the KPA soldier I enacted my revenge upon by drowning in a shallow pool of water. In my defense, he did fire his weapon at me first. I was in awe of this setting...the clear water somewhat blurring the rocky bottom; the black smoke wafting in the air behind me from the smoldering wreckage of the bridge I just blew up. It was at this moment that I sat back in my chair and thought that Crytek would never be able to surpass the gaming goodness they created in Crysis: Warhead.

How wrong was I?

Days before the 2009 Game Developer's Conference Crytek reported at their website, "“CryENGINE 3 is a revolutionary change from our previous PC-only engines – and we’re applying a similar revolution to the service we provide to developers using the software to create extraordinary games. CryENGINE 3 will set the benchmark for complete game engine solutions in performance, and services to game engine licensees and their players. We’ve been preparing a long time for CryENGINE on consoles and we’re confident that Crytek will again amaze developers at GDC.” added Carl Jones, Director of Business Development CryENGINE."

Well, Mr. Jones...I think it is safe to say that you have amazed not only the developers at the GDC, but practically the entire gaming community, no matter what our platform of choice may be.

Behold, video footage from the 2009 Game Developer's Conference (GDC) was recently released displaying the breathtaking ability of the new CryENGINE 3. If that wasn't enough to make you get up and dance, then perhaps the fact that the footage was for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 will at least get you to salivate a little. While there are several sites already hosting the video, it's also available at Crytek's website located here. It's only a few minutes long but definitely worth every second of it.

This is the way games were meant to look...

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit74d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing74d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9274d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
