So MGS4 For The 360 Huh..

I think there's a whole different facet to this story than the actual story itself, ironically. Most of us know Metal Gear has seen the light of day on multiple consoles in the previous gen, so it was never really one of those type of exclusives where a 3rd party publisher just puts it on a specific platform and that was that. And because of that no one would give you an odd look if you suggested, a few years ago, that Metal Gear Solid 4 would eventually end up on another platform after a period of exclusivity on Sony's next gen platform.

Fast forward to the present day and you're getting the exact same suggestion, but with a louder voice. This whole commotion has deeper roots than just Metal Gear. Indeed it stems back to when exclusive games, like GTA4, like Devil May Cry, like Ace Combat, where heavily related to the PlayStation brand but as the cost of development went up, publishers had no choice but to try and, at least, get a return for their investment if not profit from these games and that is why they're being released on the Xbox aswell. This ofcourse shocks the fan base of the PlayStation at a sensitive time where their next-gen console is being criticised from all directions - and the fact that it cost $600 being a kick in the teeth. A moment of contemplation becomes neccessary. You had to think about what console you were going to buy as the reasons you might have had - become limited to a point now.

This theme of inferiority, or loss of superiority, continued with poor ports to the PlayStation 3 and thus gave birth to a mentality within the gaming community where fanboy wars was fuelled by withcraft-like passion. The PlayStation fanbase had to defend their purchase, even though they had little ammunition in these battles.

The idea then, that a game like Metal Gear Solid 4 also being on the Xbox 360 - even though this was as I said earlier a big possibility anyway, was blasphamous. It was simply unacceptable that anymore games could lose that "PlayStation" relationship that it had in the previous generation. These rumours, if you actually think about, do not say that a 360 version would be released at the same time as the PS3 version. Although some speculate it could be within months of that release, the more logical assumption is that it'd follow the footsteps of previous examples of Metal Gear tasting other platforms and so it'd be released after around a year atleast on its debut on Sony's platform. Even this boils the blood for many.

And it's not because it's going to another platform, but because of the recent trend of negativity, or lack of positives or "bragging rights" that the console has had, that anything other than that, is welcomed with suspicion and firm emotional dismissal. The notion of "MGS4 on 360" gives the assumption, perhpas intentionally, that both versions would be released at the same time. So the resistance to these things are what mainly fuel this inappropiately fashioned rumour in my opinion; it's not the actual story behind the rumour, but the timing and the way it is formulated. You'd get a massively difference response from the PlayStation user base if it was "Could MGS4 be ported to the 360 in the future?".

What do you believe Meus?

I think there's a great possibility that Solid Snake will see the light of day on Microsoft's console eventually, but it will have atleast a one year gap after its release on the PS3. As Ryan Payton said, "if you want to play MGS4 next year, you're going to need a PlayStation 3". Is that damaging to the PlayStation 3 in general? Well it's a different situation right now with the console wars than what we had with the PlayStation 2. If Sony begin to show signs that they're beginning to regain their dominance, then no it's not really derogative. But if it has a disappointing 2008, which I don't think it will, then yes it will be seen as somewhat hurtful. However, it's really hard to mock the PlayStation 3 userbase if they get a game atleast one year ahead of anyone else..and personally I wouldn't really be bothered by that.

However, there are some things that challenge the idea of it ever going multiplatform, such as the actual design of the game that Kojima is sternful with, that uses the technology of the PlayStation 3, more specifically the use of the HDD and the high storage space of Blu-Ray (rumour is MGS4 will be the first game to use a 50GB disc). So, if it was ported, it'd be quite a different game than it is now.

Konami has to do what it needs to in order to stay in business. They put out great games and if a move like putting MGS4 on the 360 will keep them making fun for me for years, I'm all for it. Exclusives are a dying breed out of first parties, this is something to be expected. Unless Sony develops it themselves there is always the chance of a port. Same goes with Microsoft exclusives.

Well personally I don't mind it if MGS4 went over to the 360 a year after release on the PlayStation 3. I wouldn't be complaining about it. It's been done before. It can happen again.

it really doesnt matter if MGS 4 goes to 360 after a certain amount of time.. BUT that certain amount of time.. is after 1 and a half year or after.. beacuse Sony needs people to buy the system along with the game, which is what its going to do, so MGS 4 on 360 .. not likely( konami AND Hideo Kojima bot Repeadely decined this, saying that the ps3 is the only console to release a game like this..) So maybe next time 360.. maybe MGs 5.. or another excusive games for you guysz.. cuz i mean Rockstar has promised sony an exclusive.. so u guysz might get a promise like that from Konami.. ^.^ enjoy all your gaming for the years to come =]

This wasn't the first, and won't be the last.

I think the fact that it's such an important exclusive to Sony will keep it from going multiplatform. Sony already said in their blog "We know Metal Gear Solid 4 is the mother of all exclusives". They're not gonna let this slip away.

And honestly, MGS2 subsistance sold horribly on the original Xbox, even with a larger install base than it has now. The only reason most people want Metal Gear Solid 4 on the 360 is because they don't want sony to succeed. Not only do they want MGS4, but they want pretty much all of the PS3's exclusives. Because frankly, they don't want to buy a PS3. Not largley due to the price, because I've seen plenty of them with a premium spend 499 on a 360 elite for it's extra HD space and features. They just don't want to support Sony. The more 360 owners suggest that they want MGS4, the more Sony will do to keep it an exclusive. So 360 owners will buy the PS3. Which I actually could do without. Considering how some of them act, I wouldnt want that kind of crap playing on my team online.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit2d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing2d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster922d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
