Since last November it picked up exclusives like Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 2, Little Big Planet, Motorstorm 2 and GT5: Prologue, plus an improved list of 3rd party titles and general improvement of quality of software and it still managed to sell 20% less than it did last year.
My last blog emphasised the point that 'Year of the PlayStation' was utter nonsense. For one reason, there was no reason to suggest we would see a continued momentum for Sony's next-gen console to reach Microsoft's installbase and potentially leap frop in 2009. In fact, it was only till MGS4's release when we see a significant boost of hardware sales. Despite my warnings, people believed the prophecy was coming true. However the following months saw a declaining rate of sales, and that momentum - predicted to have continued throughout the year, had its flame burned out within only a month.
Hardware sales aside; software sales are dire. Resistance 2 has sold poorly in Europe and in America achieving less than 400K during a holiday festival. An AAA first person shooter to an established franchise failed globally. LittleBigPlanet was the greatest tragedy with sales, dropping out of the Top 20 within two weeks of launch in Europe and not even making the Top 10 for the entire month of November in North America. I want these games to suceed because in my opinion they deserve it. If it was up to me they would go multiplatform as effective of now - just so Media Molecule and Insomniac can get the appreciation and accolade in sales they sincerely deserve and no real gamer would argue that they deserve it. It's clear the PS3 won't sell software, atleast on the consistent rate we expected it to be. Only the likes of a MGS4 have any hope challenging the charts.
It's a short blog tonight, but it's almost 2am in the morning. A soured experience for Sony who continue to, rather sadly, quote percentage growths year-on-year. Well that's not difficult considering how poorly the console was selling in early 2007.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.
The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.
Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.
15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.
These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Also what about the World Wide economic crisis? Wouldn't you agree the price tag of the PS3 is a major hindrance in this time of belt tightening? That along with the 360's total install base LTD in the US @ about 14+ million being twice that of the PS3 makes the overall picture better to understand. Yes the 360 will have more sales because of it's base in it's region but it also has titles more suited for it's base; though with not as much variety as it should.
Is 1 million games sold somehow now "bad" when looking at LBP? I can't see how. Plus how is it R2 just launching a few weeks ago (and later in the EU not being taken in account) being almost equal to L4D also "bad"...maybe it would be best to wait until after Christmas to actually come to a culmination of a point. if it holds true then I could agree that those few titles have shown to be weaker than expected but I can't see how that will happen, but we'll see. I can see and understand some of your points but to be so blatantly brash without perspective actually hinders your view more than make for a strong "argument".

Sony aint finished, they are just struggleling and will continue to be 3rd this gen, we might not see a ps4, or will see a budget ps4 that is underpowered and is profitable for sony early on.
