Microsoft, The PS4 And Launch Parity

Recently Microsoft released the specifications for the ID@Xbox guidelines. This raises some interesting questions about recent events. It very specifically says "titles must maintain launch parity"..... LAUNCH PARITY. Before I go any further, what they are talking about is indie games release windows, but it's an interesting clause considering this....

ALL multiplatform games that performed better on the PS4 (ex. BF4, Ghosts and AC4) have all had parity through a series of "mistakes" by IGN, DF and others until the day of their launch and/or immediately after been patched to be a higher resolution than the Xbox One counterpart. Thus maintaing LAUNCH PARITY. So does this apply to AAA games in some sort of clause? Are the media just straight lying to you? Or is this all just a coincidence? There is only one company that this benifits and thats Microsoft. If this is what it seems like it is it's a pretty dirty move by MS and the media and should really be look at for what it is what is the manipulative deception of everyone. Xbox fans, PS fans and gamers who are just looking to be correctly informed before making any choices. The other huge problem is most of these comparisons are done on YT or some video player that compresses the video and just doesn't do the image quality justice. I've seen the difference first hand it is very noticable the Xbox One games that run in 720p has a very heavy sharpening effect on it and very heavy crushed blacks detracting from the image quality compared to the higher res Ps4 version. This effect can be softened by setting the Xbox to output at 720p and not allowing the upscaler to well upscale it. With the next few games coming up we will find out if there is a launch parity clause given to the AAA games with Destiny, Watchdogs and others rumor to be running at higher resolutions aswell. The media and developers can't just keep saying the same thing and making the same mistakes. Let me put it this way, considering all that has gone on w/ botched comparisons and MS wanting launch parity for indies is it that outrageous to think that this might apply to 3rd party games in some from or another, like graphic comparisons. I would say more evidence is pointing that way than not. Also consider that all the comparisons for games that were not botched were all games that had parity and they have shown PS4 footage multiple times saying it's X1 footage. To me, that sounds a lot like launch parity.

I imagine some people will respond with the apologist mindstate of "it doesn't matter, play games not the resolution". This is simply not true. Gameplay and graphics walk hand and hand. If Microsoft wants to have a weaker system and people want to buy it that's their choice, but you can't lie and decieve customers on both systems because of it. The funny thing is all last gen sites would rate games a point or two higher on 360 if it had a higher resolution (40p) than the PS3 version. But now resolution doesn't matter, when games like COD have a way higher resolution and BF4 that outperforms the X1 on every level....to top it off the games get the same rating. All of this is the ultimate slap in the face to the gaming community, if you ask me.

Launch parity means to be launched within the same time frame you dolt.

But yet they buy time exclusive left and right?

I think its definitely something to watch for anyway. Might just be theory and maybe is not true but if it is... that is low.

I said the exact same thing on Eurogamer.

BF4,COD and AC4 all having issues that benefitted the Xbone.

Having to patch the game after to 1080p in the case of COD & AC4 and only on PS4, what a big coincidence.. Not!

At least they are patching it though and not just leaving it, MS must hate that lol.

Dirty, disgusting, money grabbing company, i hate MS, they try to ruin gaming for their financial gain.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit21d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing21d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9221d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
