It has been roughly 2 and a half years since the PS Vita's launch, and numbers are strong but not impressive. Hovering around 10 million sold is not the result Sony was looking for, but each one sold is another consumer that purchases games. The attach rate for games on the Vita is north of 13 per console. That number would make any console producer grin with excitement.
Games are finally steadily coming out on the system, and Sony is pushing hard for cross-play with most games. The added value of PS+ games and cross-play features are making the Vita a very attractive piece of equipment. Then there is remote play. Though a game has yet to truly capture the full experience of a game on TV, the ability to do the side-missions or meaningless collecting on the Vita is a great bonus.
This leads into my last point that the Vita will have a renewed 'Life'. Japan is ever inching it's way toward mobile games. Though the 3DS/DS is very popular, the country is beginning to take notice of the more powerful Vita. The console is now consistently in the top of the sales charts, even outselling it's big brother PS4.
With every PS4 sold, the mindset of 'If I own one I should pick up the other" I believe is growing. Every time Sony is able to work out a cross-buy deal or cross-play deal further emphasizes the urge to own both. Each game you own on your PS+ account, makes buying a Vita even easier because you do not even have to buy games.
For me , I got a Vita because I knew I was getting a PS4. With the imminent introduction of Playstation NOW, consumers that might not have gotten the console may still be enticed to get a Vita for all the PS1, PS2 or PS3 games they can play.
It is still a long and tough road the Vita has to take, but with the redesign, the ecosystem and incentives Sony adds the road is being paved for a Vita revival.

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The charity event will be streamed live from Gamescom in August.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.
Launch vita owner here, all i gotta say is that i have put mine through hell and back and it works perfect still. i use skype/facebook/twitter/youtube and the calendar everyday. I believe that the vita offers a very strong introduction into social media especially if you dont have a phone. videos, photos, and the custom themes really add to the handheld and games that make use of all these features including the back touch are very fun. the cross buy deals are freaking awesome, i dont see nintendo doing the same.
games... well their are too many vita games imo. too many great games to chose from. I think people trying to get that AAA feel out of a handheld are just wanting too much.
i remember the nintendo gameboy was so awesome because it offered a great variety of different games with short experiances, the 3ds is still pretty much doing the same with the exception of the rpg's the handheld lives off besides mario and zelda.
only close minded individuals would hate on the value of the vita.
about the only thing that has pissed me off is the memory card prices and thats it.
I'm still on the fence on if I should get a Vita or 3Ds.
It's a shame the western audiences still have yet to appreciate what the Vita is capable of & what it can be. Over in Japan they are starting to see the potential of the system.
Of course we all know that the Vita will never reach the heights of the 3DS but it doesn't mean that it can't be successful as well. Tired of all the game journalist constantly saying of its failures & it has 'no games'. The Vita has games, VERY good games, some really high rated games.
Although i understand the complaints about the memory cards you do realize the reason Sony decided to do it. It's cause of the high piracy of the PSP.
I have 2 Vita's. One for import games from Japan & the other for regular use. Love every minute i spend with it.
Launch owner, and supporter long before that. It was quite a while before we saw games on the PSP but in the end the games were awesome. We've seen some good games on the Vita already, Gravity Rush is one of my favorite games ever, but we need more. It's nice to see some interesting games coming out.
I'm still patiently waiting for a Rockstar release on Vita/3DS.
Chinatown Wars was so addictive, imagine what they could do with current gen handhelds.
