Why is Mario Galaxy getting such good hype?

So I’m writing this review because I’m tired of Super Mario
Galaxy getting such good reviews. I don’t think that it even stood up to Mario
64. I mean sure the graphics were better but other than that I was pretty much
disappointed. I’m not saying the game sucked or anything, I still had SOME fun
playing it but seems to me that everywhere I look it’s getting props for being
the best Wii game to date and I couldn’t disagree more.

I’d like to start by saying that for the most part this game
was fun. However, that being said, I definitely have some major problems with
it. First and foremost I hated that attacking enemies was so lame. The entire
spinning system just sucked all around in my opinion. Maybe it was just me but I
preferred the punch-punch-kick combo of the 64 version. I never quite felt in
control of Mario whenever I was approaching enemies. The other problem I had
with it was that whenever the gravity switched quickly from down to up (like
when you run from the topside of a planet to the underside) I always lost
control of Mario. There were a few puzzles in the game that I had to quickly
navigate some corridor or maze, while sand was threatening to crush me, that were made ten times more difficult just because controlling Mario while he is upside down is not intuitive. My last problem with the game was the difficulty level. The majority of the game was way way too easy but then there were a couple things that were too difficult. I found that beating the bouldergiest with only one
hit was one of the most tedious parts of the game. And then collecting 100
purple coins in the bone-yard within the time limit just seemed impossible and I
still have yet to do it.

I would like to reiterate that I still did like this game and out of 10 I would rate it an 7, but I just wanted to voice my problems with it. Nintendo power took a poll and rated it the best graphics and the best game of 2007. Maybe this pissed me off because I thought that Metroid Prime: Corruption deserved both of those titles. I still think that Galaxy was lacking in some key elements and people are getting blinded by the how much better it was than Sunshine… Which was also too easy of a game.

Because it's Mario, and it's one of the most milked franchises in the world, and Nintendo know they can keep cashing in on it as long as they like, and continue making money for as long as they want, without being questioned by the media.

But, it's Nintendo, so it's okay, right? Anyway, computer-illiterate old age pensioners and 4-year-olds don't worry about this sort of thing, so Nintendo are safe.

I'm not convinced of this notion that Nintendo gets a free pass when it comes to determining the quality of their games. We all heard it when Metroid Prime 3 came out, when Mario Galaxy came out, when Smash Bros Brawl came out, and will probably hear it when Mario Kart comes out.

If you look at Mario Galaxy's Metacritic page, the given score is based off of 72 different reviews. If 72 gaming publications have given Mario Galaxy a high score, either a) Mario Galaxy is indeed a good game, or b) 72 gaming publications have no credibility and have simply given Mario Galaxy a high score because Nintendo gets a free pass, and as a result these publications should have been ignored by the masses a long time ago.

The likely outcome is that these gaming publication enjoyed the game and scored it high as a result. Reviews are subjective, and therefore them rating the game high doesn't make the game good just as your opinion of the game doesn't make it better than average (or however you perceive a 7/10 to be). It's simply an opinion. However, you seem to be distraught at the fact that numerous ppl do not share the same view of the game as you do. I don't think you should care so much about what other ppl think quite honestly.

The interesting thing is that I agree w/ almost every detailed point you made about Mario Galaxy, except that I would rate the game a 9/10. Beating Bouldergeist for the 2nd time w/out getting hit took me days to accomplish, and I remember getting very frustrated. I would also like to add how annoyed I get when the camera gets stuck behind an object when I'm swimming around for example. The game is not perfect and quite frankly, I also liked Metroid Prime 3's graphics better. However, I simply don't care enough to argue one way or another whether Mario Galaxy deserves its praise because I cannot speak for everyones' tastes. The most important thing is that *I* enjoy the game.

Well, here's why Super Mario Galaxy is so well-reviewed. It's fun. I can't get enough of that game, even after having gotten 120 stars (and if you think the 100 purple coins in the boneyard is hard... wait until the Purple Coin Challenge in Toy Time Galaxy! haha) Playing through the game as Luigi is still a hoot even though I started doing so immediately after playing it through the first time. But like the above comment states, I can only speak for myself.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit28d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9228d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
