If N4G was a pond and the community was a school of fish, then the majority would have already been caught by hungry vile fisherman. This isn't a post about the fanboy problem that linger here but of the rest of the commenters. Coming from this http://n4g.com/news/575448/... its clear that most of the community wants stricter moderation but why? Is it because most of you can't help to moderate yourself? Isn't common internet law to not feed the troll yet every time I see [Insert Fanboy Here] post, it is follow by numerous replies. They usually range from "Haha, you are delusional" to "Don't you get tired of spewing crap" to other various insults yet a few articles later [Insert Fanboy Here] is back saying something along the same lines and as you suspected, the same replies follow. Rinse and repeat. So it is clear that [Insert Fanboy Here] isn't going to change their way anytime soon, but instead why doesn't the community?
N4G offers you the option to ignore certain people, it even allows you to hide comments from people who have less than X bubbles. So why doesn't the community take advantage of this? I for one think its because you don't want to have an intellectual debate since you are wasting one of your bubbles commenting on deaf ears, that troll doesn't care. And you might think that by insulting them, by "owning" them on their childish gibberish you are somehow looking smarter and intellectual with your logic and facts but in truth whats happening is you are getting reeled in by a poor man's bait.
Now I'm not saying that N4G doesn't need more/better moderation but for the time being there are things the community can do while we wait for change. So next time you are out there swimming along don't go straight for that dirty worm hanging obviously from a rusted hook, unless of course that is what you want which in point you shouldn't be complaining....

PS: Yes I know I have trolled, so I know how easy it is to fish here. Also this is my 1st blog :)

i agree. we see how absolutely irresponsible people are with the bubble system as it is and they want MORE moderation. shit, these guys can't silence 360 owners fast enough as it is, now they want mods to do their dirty work too? as it is, this may as well be a sony fan-site.
i think mods need to verify every debubbling and debubble people who abuse the system. debubble a guy for posting a racist or curse filled rant? fair enough. debubble a guy just because he likes halo more than killzone? uh no, you lose one for abusing the system. anyone with a brain can tell the difference between an opinion and somebody who is just being a dick.
i think it's an overly juvenile set-up here. if you don't like what someone says, too bad, thats life. i support a free and open board.
The irony in this blog almost killed me when I first saw the poster.
But I'm going to have to agree, the community wants the power of more government because they are too lazy to do anything about their "problems" themselves. Personally, I haven't ignored anyone. All the trolls that have PMed me with their stupidity I have silenced simply because they could not support their claims. And on the main website, all I need do is disagree and move on.
When I first came to N4G, I was appalled by the number of trolls and fangirls here and I thought it was my responsibility to help teach these perps the errors of their ways. Which resulted in me making lots of enemies, picking up a few restrictions and losing a few bubbles. Over the course of time, I've come to see that really, most of these individuals either (1) Don't mean half of what they say, (2) Are mentally weak, or (3) Just trying to get the rise out of randoms. Really, for N4G the rule of thumb should be "There is no arguing with an Idiot".
Now, I really don't care what anyone has to say anymore. My opinion and those that are closest to mine (Or those of the folk I can trust) are the only ones that count. After all, that's how the world works. And things should be no different on the internet.
So no, I don't think we need the open zone back, or very strict moderation. I think we need people to man up, thicken their skin and use the tools they've been given.
But the reporting system is still broken.
Good Post ... Marius ... :3
The bubble system work, but not in terms of the quality of posts. I get disagrees and de-bubbles simple because I've been on this site for several years, people recognize my name and they know the console I prefer. And since I've never made an alt account, my record sticks with me. So, people see my name, ignore my comment, and de-bubble me.
People claim to want to allow opinions, but then there are people like me on the site who are constantly shouted down and de-bubbled, even though the worst I've done is talked about certain games or systems in a negative way.
Hopefully more then 10 people in the community read this. I actually like this website a lot and yes it can be troll central, but its full of colouful personalities and friendly people.
The bubble system is kinda broken, people just lose bubbles because they have haters. I agree stricter moderation is needed. I'm hoping instead of trolling articles, people will begin to debate about things in the future, not throw insults. Its not good for the community and makes them look like a jackass.
I know when certain people put forth a constructive and sensible argument some people just hit disagree without reading. If more people act more sensible then maybe people will begin to read more instead of thinking "agree or disagree"
You make me want to go grenade fishing.
