Good vs Evil. Right vs wrong. Us vs them. Human nature wants to divide the world into two sides and then be on the ‘right’ one, often without fully understanding the issues. This has been true for many of the world’s pastimes. Religion, sports, politics all utilize this primal instinct to great effect.
Gaming has been no exception to this from the very beginning.
When we spend time on an activity, it becomes part of us. It becomes part of our identity and hence how we define ourselves. At the point of inception, gaming, a relatively new pastime, would not have had the deep divides that plague it today. As a fledgling entertainment medium, the instinct would have been to separate itself from other more popular media. It would have given the birth of the “I’m a gamer” stamp, and we would have all been gamers together.
This was never fated to last long. Humans are social animals, and we do poorly on our own. However, according to some, "tribalism" exists because the human brain is not adapted to working with large populations. Beyond 150 persons, the human brain must resort to some combination of hierarchical schemes, stereotypes, and other simplified models in order to understand so many people.
The explosion of gaming and its increasing role in our daily lives would have led to firm divisions. No longer were we content to simply be a “gamer”. That had become too broad a definition, too vague an identity, too crowded. It was something our primitive brains could not reconcile. We became PC games, Console gamers, PS3/Wii/ DS/Xbox fanboys. We now propagate the same mindless fanaticism that has tainted many of the aforementioned pastimes.
When we attack a fellow gamer, the criticism is no longer received as logic. It is received as a threat, on a more primal level. The reactions become vicious and illogical, as it should be. An attack on self/identity is very similar to an attack on life. Logic is not the evolutionary response. Don’t expect it.

When Wolf Games unveiled its debut title Public Eye, the announcement felt less like a routine game launch and more like a signal flare for the future of
I will never purchase an AI generated game, I will not contribute to something that takes away artistic human expression and creation in gaming. I'm not one of those people who says, "I hope this fails" like so many often do about everything gaming these days but on this one I have to. AI has it's place, just not here.

If you read Kotaku even semi-regularly, you already know that Xbox has been in a weird spot for some time now. And with today’s news that both Xbox boss Phil Spencer and President Sarah Bond are leaving and the new head of the brand will be a former Meta exec who previously lead Microsoft’s AI division, I think it’s time to call it. Xbox is dead. Time of death: February 20, 2026
Oh come on, Xbox has been dead for at least 10 years now. I think what’s more important right now is Playstation’s death that is very slowly but surely happening through mismanagement and greed.
This is why the views and comments are low, with lame articles that use divide-and-conquer pretensions.

The Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling console in Japan with 315,816 units sold for January 2026.

Sorry for changing title to anyone who approved this before.
I began to think it was less than ideal
It's interesting that it kind of follows the LEFT/RIGHT of politics. I'm in the United States, and a lot of people here like to assume that there are only two types of people, Liberals/Conservatives, as if it was as distinct as Male/Female. They leave no room for middle or moderate or mixed.
It's sad to see the video game fanboys doing the same thing.
Since the "Console War" is not specific to a country, it might be interesting to see how the fanboys are spread across the world.
If you could, comment on this post and state your country and console affiliation (with middle/moderate/mixed allowed)
Personally, I'm from USA, own all 3. I used to be a pure PS3 fan, but now it's about 50/50 ps3 and xbox. I have given up on the Wii.
Good read, and I agree completely of why we have fanboys. However, this is just a normal thing in this world, we all have different opinions and we defend them a bit too much sometimes. I see fanboys just as sports teams have fans. You also have to consider the fact that we are on the internet, and people act a bit more extreme with their preferences.
It's normal to try to defend something you spent good money on, to an extent. But, defending these multi-billion dollar, global corporations (Sony, MS, Nintendo) is stupid.
