Has anyone messed with this BD audio option on his or her PS3?

I enabled it, and ever since, I can watch a Blu-ray with DTS-MA audio and my PS3 downmixes and converts it in REAL TIME to Dolby Digital 5.1 which is compatible with my DD-only receiver over optical audio cable.

That's awesome, because before that, my PS3 would only play DTS-MA blu-rays in stereo sound because obviously optical cable and DD 5.1 amp doesn't support DTS-MA.

I was simply blown away because you know how you can press [select] and you see the video and audio stream info? It showed 4Mbps DTS-MA audio track, yet my amp was outputting 5.1 Dolby Digital surround. I was like YEAH!!! No more stereo sound for my DTS-only Blu-rays!

Sounds like you are just passing the 2 channel pcm into pro logic it wont even be DD5.1.

Optical can only carry 2 channels of PCM but tbh before i had a 7.1 lossless setup i would listen to the DTSMA in stereo because it was SO SO much better than regular surround.

Its really worth getting a 7.1 lossless setup as big an upgrade as SDTV to 1080p in my opinion. :)

Nope, it's not pro logic dude. It's 5.1 Dolby Digital surround. I'm not stupid. The only way my amp does pro logic is by several button presses and a menu selection. PL is not automatic on my system.

The PS3 is DEFINITELY re-encoding the stream to Dolby. Definitely. There is literally no other explanation. None at all. I'm getting dedicated sound channels to all 5 speakers, and the 5.1 dolby light is lit up on my amp.
