What's with this "PS3 is Dead" nonsense

Following the recent shocking announcement of one the most prolific Playstation 3 exclusives going multiplatform, Final Fantasy XIII, talk of "PS3 is dead" and "I'm selling my PS3" (even if the person doesn't even own a PS3) took the forum by storm. However, things are in Sony's favor. Final Fantasy XIII is still PS3 exclusive in Japan and will be release first worldwide with a X-box 360 version rumored with a release date of 2010.

We all know that third party exclusives are basically dead, so in the long run first and second party exclusives will determine the outcome of the console war. Sony have more first party studios than Nintendo and Microsoft combined which in turns means more exclusives for Sony in the long run. In this discussion, I will mainly focus on Sony and Microsoft so let's look at the first and second party studios for each company.

Microsoft
1st Party
ACES Game Studio (Flight Simulator and Combat Flight Simulator series)
Carbonated Games (Hexic, 7 Hand Poker, UNO, Aegis Wing)
Ensemble (Age of Empires, Age of Mythology, Halo Wars)
Hired Gun (Halo 2 for Windows Vista)
Lionhead (Black and White, The Movies, Fable)
Rare (Perfect Dark, Kameo, Conker, Banjo, Viva Pinata)
Turn10 (Forza Motorsport)
Wingnut Interactive (No game in development)

2nd Party
Mistwalker (Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey)

Sony

1st Party
Clap Hanz (Hot Shots Golf)
Polyphony Digital (Gran Turismo, Motor Toon Grand Prix, Omega Boost)
SCE Japan Studio (Project Siren, Ape Escape, LocoRoco, Folklore, Genji)
Team ICO (ICO, Shadow of the Colossus)
Incognito Entertainment (Twisted Metal, Warhawk)
Naughty Dog (Jak and Daxter, Uncharted)
SCE Bend Studio (Syphon Filter)
SCE Foster City Studio (Jet Li: Rise to Honor)
SCE San Diego Studio (The Mark of Kri, NBA '07, MLB The Show 08)
SCE Santa Monica Studio (God of War, Kinetica)
Sony Online Entertainment LLC. (EverQuest, DC Online Universe, The Realms, The Agency)
Zipper Interactive (SOCOM, M.A.G.)
Bigbig Studios (Pursuit Force)
Evolution Studios (Motorstorm)
Guerrilla Games (Killzone)
SCE London Studio (The Getaway, SingStar)
SCE Studio Cambridge (MediEvil, Primal)
SCE Studio Liverpool (Wipeout, F1)
SCE Korea (EyeToy, GloRace)

2nd Party
Sucker Punch (Sly Cooper, Infamous)
Insomniac (Ratchet and Clank, Resistance)

Sony have a total of 21 first and second party studios while Microsoft have 9. With third party exclusives basically dead, the favor is clearly in Sony's favor. Hardware reliability also helps. I hope this thread stops the "PS3 is dead" nonsense.

There's a very good reason why these PS3 is dead nonsense won't end.

It's because what you stated was facts and people nowadays tend to ignore facts. They ignore sales pattern. They ignore sales progress. They ignore development studios. They ignore region based titles. They ignore anything fact based relating to the PS3. Thus...the nonsense shall continue. Shame however...

The xbox is dead in japan...so with it not even launching in japan is a moot point...a point that even if there were no change and both launched simultaneously it still would not move xbox consoles...Most people are saying sony is dead is this loss of final fantasy 13 is the equivalent of gears of war 2 going multiplatform..which honestly everyone would shout on the rooftops that micrsoft is dead...especially on this website.
People are just angry and expected more from sonys press conference yesterday. I seriously dont understand the generated hype for MAGS...lets be honest...if they cant pull off home, how does anyone expect them to pull off 256 players..smoke and mirrors work best for ps3 owners i guess because thats all I seen at the e3 press conference. You also fail to mention airtight studios..the rumored developers of crimson skies 2....lets be fair you are missing a couple of other developers from the microsoft list as well.
http://kotaku.com/gaming/ru...

SCE London Studio (The Getaway, SingStar)
SCE Studio Cambridge (MediEvil, Primal)
SCE Studio Liverpool (Wipeout, F1)
SCE Korea (EyeToy, GloRace)
these are the same studio...you trying to pad that list? roflmao. its all sony europe.

I said its the equivalent....do you have any reading comprehension..its as ff13 was a first party exclusive...heres that list of developers...
http://developers.teamxbox.... i thought we were having a mature debate...i didnt insult you or nothing...

just going through that list..
10tacle (elveon)
2k marin (bioshock2)
2xl games (baja)
3do (prey 2)
thats just the first page..im not power of green to give a f*ck and go down the whole alphabets...lol

Defectiv3_Detectiv36491d ago (Edited 6491d ago )

Elveon is rumored to come to PS3, but Bioshock 2 and Baja are for sure coming to PS3.

I would also bet good money Prey 2 is coming as well, when Prey 1 came out the PS3 was in its infancy, now that its user base rivals the 360's there these games are going mp.

You don't get it do you, that's like saying all of Microsoft 1st party studios is Microsoft Game Studios. If I did that then Microsoft would ONLY have one first party studio.

Edit: Airtight Games is NOT a first or second party studio, they are developing Dark Void which is multiplatform. Get your fact straights if you want to have mature a argument.

Also, you said I'm missing SOME Microsoft studios, why don't you tell me what they are? I know I forgot to add That Game Company to Sony's second party studios.

You don't seem to understand the meaning of 1st and 2nd party studios. I won't even bother disproving you.

Fairgames Reportedly Roasted in Recent Pre-Alpha

Sammy: "At this point, we’re not sure Haven Studios can ever turn around the negative sentiment that’s stuck to Fairgames ever since it was revealed in 2023.

The title got a worse reception than Concord, which would go on to release and subsequently be shut down within weeks. And yet, the project somehow persists."

"According to Henderson, the release’s visual style has been toned down from its reveal trailer, and it’s now grittier and less colourful, resembling something like Call of Duty or The Division."

How can you make the art style even worse than it already was??

This really goes to show how out of touch many devs/publishers are these days. How do you specifically go in reverse of people's complaints 🤣

If it’s been 3 years since it was announced and it’s still “not fun” where the head of the studio along with other top developers have left then maybe just f****** cancel it

Oh no no…Bluepoint needs to close instead

I’m honestly buying into the tin foil hat theory that Herman Hulst is being scrutinised by higher ups and if he cancels this game he’s in bigger trouble than he already is. It’s like he truly believes it’ll turn out as a win for him.

isarai_lee16h ago

Just cancel it, pretty much everything Jim did has hurt the PlayStation Brand, and needs to be excised.

Jin_Sakai14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

Good. I love seeing Jim Ryan’s Live Service bs get destroyed. PlayStation is healing.
