For who ? For me as a big Killzone 2 fan and after google searching it for a while it is for many , not just myself.
The cause of the disappointment is mostly the multiplayer part as you may guess. Campaign is okay, I could ignore it`s flaws as I do not care much about it – although KZ2 campaign mode was much more solid in many ways - . We care about multiplayer as many FPS gamers buy those games just for the multiplayer experience. And guess what ? Killzone 3 multiplayer is a huge fail !
I found a great post on a Killzone fan`s blog where he criticizes the game and shows us 50 reasons to hate killzone 3 multiplayer ; http://rayedx.blogspot.com/...
''1-They've changed the control and made it so easy to attract a new audince called "The causual players" because they were crying in KZ2 , if the control in Killzone 2 had a problem then i guess they would make a new update to fix it .''
* Exactly my point. I loved the way that we controlled our characters in Killzone 2. The weight of armor was clearly felt, turns were not easy, shooting was not, so it was close to a real shooting experience. Because of this, only skilled players were going up in the rankings.
'' 6-There`s a new system called "Unlocks" and it makes everyone start ranking up with the most overpower class ''
* I hate the way leveling up and rewarding system works in Killzone 3. It`s completely different than KZ2 and as the guy puts it out, everyone start ranking up with the most overpowered class.
'' 7- The weapons are overpower and you can easily kill someone from a very long distance ''
* And very quickly… Just like Call of Duty. Once a bullet is in your body, you have almost no chance to survive or fight back.
'' 26- The graphics look cartoonish ,the menu looks so annoying (especially that red colour ) and i wonder why they changed the weapons sound and they kept their names ! Its the same when they changed the names of 2 classes ! ''
* Definitely. They are more colorful and it`s annoying. It`s so different to what we have seen before in Killzone series – dark environments, cruel, brutal etc… -
'' 28- IMO, you can get all the ranks in only 10 days but it takes 30 days in Killzone 2 ''
* True and it will probably take more than 30 days in Killzone 2. Points are up for grabs in KZ3 and you can rank up 2,3 levels if you play an over average game in KZ3.
'' 29-You can now revive your teammates by pressing one button but in Killzone 2 you can hold the reviving tool and having all the freedom ,just like a real medic.''
* So easy, effortless. It shouldn`t be like that
'' 30-The new melee is a joke ,it doesnt take skills ! You kill someone with one hit but it takes 2 hits in Killzone 2 and you can fight back .Also ,i want to know how could someone melee you from 5 meters ? I even saw this in the official videos of Killzone3.''
* It is really a joke. It is similar to the f**ing knife in Call of Duty multiplayer. How come it kills from 5 meters as the guy says ? It`s soooooo cheap.Overall Killzone 3 has tried to be a new Call of Duty type multiplayer game. More arcade type with a lot of flaws and unpleasant changes. Was that necessary ? I don`t think so, killzone 2 was solid in many ways and most importantly it was unique ! This is the most important thing ; being unique. We were able to distinguish Killzone multiplayer from Call of Duty and Battlefield games. Now it`s more like a call of duty clone with some Battlefield sauces into the mix.
I feel and share the pain fellow KZ 2 fans who think the same way with me. I would ignore it and play other multiplayer games if I did not expect much from KZ3 and if I was not a Killzone fan. But I can`t , it hurts. Guerilla you broke our hearts, you have to get us back or I will kill my love to the Killzone series very soon as I did it to Call of Duty series last year.

I definitely think MP is dumbed down but not all the criticisms you cite. I do like brutal melee, I think it's just an element of fun- you don't need everything to be skill based. I don't like the removal of so many features, for example respawn on squad leader, custom games etc.
I also think there's balancing issues with the new spawn capture point system as opposed to spawn grenades. The amount of games I've been in where one team becomes simply spawn trapped in warzone is off the charts.
It's still a good game, but its not without issues.
